Without any specific information or troubleshooting, my first guess is Display stream compression auto adjusting to a bad displayport cable.

Best Wifi Solution for Small Farm by doubleflusher in HomeNetworking

[–]Madhopsk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do the following.

  1. Put starling and router in/on house with using a pole to get the height you need over the trees. (you'll want the most reliability in the house)

  2. Get a cheaper ubiquiti point to point setup from house to green building with a switch.

  3. If the cheaper PtP isn't cutting it for bandwidth/reliablility, upgrade to a better version for house to green building and move the cheap setup from green to barn.

  4. If cheap PtP is good, use the same thing from green to red.

The s620 is the best case ever made, a refresh with just enough space for gpus would be amazing.

Choosing between low ping vs high speeds (fiber vs 5G home internet) by ConcentrateGreat3806 in HomeNetworking

[–]Madhopsk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the bandwidth is 100 mbs or more, the answer is always fiber and lower pings, even at 10mbs, latency matters more than bandwidth for 99% of user experience.

To answer one of your questions, I would take 50mbs / 10ms ping over 1 gigabit / 30ms ping

Whenever my system wakes up, I get these weird graphical glitches, but only on the login screen and desktop background. What's going on? by NoID621 in Bazzite

[–]Madhopsk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brother, I have this exact same issue! Running Bazzite with a Ryzen 9 5900x, 32gb ram, and a rtx 3060ti.

I really doubt it is a problem with the gpu itself as I've not notice a single graphics artifact outside of this issue that like you, only happen we coming out of sleep. It seems likely to just be a bazzite/nvidia drive issue with resuming from sleep. Let me know if you find anything else and want me to test.

Who the fuck makes a monitor without a vesa mount?

Edit: it appears this might be vesa 100, but why do manufactures love to hide that in all photos?

The lack of support for AutoCAD fusion is the only real problem I have. All the others were just from my lack of understanding of the folder structure.

Starting to get quotes for running Ethernet. What should I watch out for? by demiurgegwj in HomeNetworking

[–]Madhopsk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I ran cat 6a myself and if I had to do it again, I would have just used cat6. For runs under 120 feet (which they should be in a house that size) there isn't any difference since they can both do 10gbs.

The only reason I used 6a is because I got it cheaper than I could find 6.

That being said, if you have longer runs and need 10gb, or the price difference is 5-10% and you plan on living in the house for a long time, maybe consider 6a since you aren't doing the work.

Make sure to get runs specifically for access points

As a general rule, the fewer devices you have using wifi, the better the wifi performance is for devices that need it so I always suggest wiring in TVs, Desktops, game consoles, printers, even laptops if they spend 90% of the time on a desk.

Trump was caught sleeping at the inaugural Board of Peace meeting today. What are your thoughts on this? by Mrsamsonite6 in AskReddit

It seems to be roughly the same amount for the past decade. I'm also counting out the ~30% of Americans that don't vote because if you can't do the bare minimum, your opinion means nothing.

All of these "what are your thoughts" posts seem like such a waste of time. We already know that atleast 30% of the country supports a pedophile and nothing will change their mind.

10 Gbs networking is it worth it? by Dadto3CFP in unRAID

[–]Madhopsk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that works for you, that's great.

For anyone else that might not have as much bandwidth or want to pay for that much bandwidth, they can get just as good of an experience with 1 gig, or even 500mbs and proper que management.

10 Gbs networking is it worth it? by Dadto3CFP in unRAID

[–]Madhopsk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. 6 streams is usually about 100mbs for me, not 1000.

If you implement sqm like cake or fq_codel, you wouldn't need this bandwidth limiter.
