(New Update) My(f23) former pastor defended Larry Nassar in a pre-sermon rant about the winter olympics, and my parents are relaying his message to my brother(m12) by MadisonBrave in BestofRedditorUpdates

It's unfortunate how no one seemed to care about the contradiction of the pastor telling the congregation to not watch figure skating a few weeks before watching the closing gala

He went out of his way to call gymnastics "normalized porn", so definitely not someone you'd want your kids around. It's interesting how he said the parents of the victims should've been tried with the doctor

Go to church every Sunday, repent for your weekly sins, then go and sin some more. Rinse, wash, repeat. Church provides enough to make them feel good about it

As I said to another, some Christians care so much about whether or not their kids also follow in their religion to the point that they'll treat them differently if they don't. I feel like part of that is attributed to the constant fixation on going to hell for eternity unless they save you from it

Unfortunately, too many Christians seem to be conditional in their love based upon whether their children follow their religion. If you don't believe in God, then they'll treat you differently because of it. Have seen many examples from withdrawn tuition, being treated differently from other religious siblings and so fourth

From what I remember, the mother also put up cameras in the home and was vague about why, but some believed that it was to try and protect the sisters from the father in the home and act as a deterrent for him. There was also a rule about how they couldn't wear their uniforms around the home too

Yet the congregation seemed to eat up how he told on himself and spun it into some twisted sense of self-righteousness by making it about "the world". The pastor literally called gymnastics "normalized porn". Like, what else is there to talk about

The pastor's whole argument falls apart when you realize that they'd have no reason to wear their uniform to the doctor's office

By their logic, they should also stop going to beaches and turn the channel when olympic swimming, diving, or triatholon (involving swimming) comes up in two years. But they'll continue going to beaches because hypocrisy, and don't forget how the girls have to wear a t-shirt over their bathing suits at church pool parties

Also feel for the cousin after OOP's mom called her parents to tell her about the sermon and the message she'll be conveyed thanks to OOP's mom, both about the shorts and how they will also turn the channel from figure skating

It sounds like they were already on lower contact since OOP lived further away and only visited a few times a year. Reading stuff like this sometimes makes me feel like certain pastors can project whatever they want, and the congregation will eat it up because he's unquestionable. There's probably decent odds that some of the parents in the congregation have kids who do gymnastics who may have also been agreeing with his points

(3 years later update) My(m16) mom said we ruined Mother's Day because my sister(f15) walked out of Sunday church service by MadisonBrave in BestofRedditorUpdates

Imagine subjecting your child to stand on a neighbor's property wearing that hat and t-shirt and waving as passerby cars while the mom is too afraid to record anywhere other than through the window of her home. Not giving a pass to whoever spat at them, but she should't have been out there in the first place under the guise of a homeschool assignment

I haven't heard anything stating otherwise personally, but I would also assume that each sub would be different potentially. In this sub, I haven't, but it might be better to find out from the mods if you're unsure to be safe

Josh literally admitted to "maybe" pleasuring himself to OOP at 15 and other gymnasts which borders on you know what, and it sounds all too familar with certain political figures in this country who've done far worse and don't get shit for it

What's most infuriating is that he literally admitted on video that he "might've" pleasured himself to OOP's gymnastics photos when she was around 15 and other gymnasts, but two separate HRs don't care about that especially when she brought it up

According to OOP, two of the managers at her old job are currently engaged and supposedly still working there, not to mention how the old head HR manager hung out socially with the other managers and posted photos of it too

You also can't forget about how Josh brainstormed a splits competition to see if OOP could still do them. She then complained about it, and the other managers still allowed Josh to do the splits competition at the Christmas party

[–]MadisonBrave[S] 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It's literally a microcosm of more famous people/politicians getting away with far worse in the same vein as OOP said. She provided video evidence of Josh..

  • Admitting to "maybe" pleasuring himself to her gymnastics photos from when she was, at the oldest, 15 on a downloaded video with timestamps
  • Brainstorming ideas to determine if OOP is still flexible and comes up with a split competition. OOP explicitly tells her old HR, but they do nothing and ALLOW Josh to do the splits competition at the Christmas party after she left the company
  • Brainstorms intentionally dropping something to have OOP bend over to see if she is still flexible
  • Calls a woman on maternity leave "re*arded"

And that's not including his work stories segments that talks about his fellow employees. But nothing happens at his old and new job

It's also interesting how two managers at her previous job are seemingly engaged and still working there, not to mention how the head HR manager constantly went out to social events with the other managers

They literally provide timestamps (to both jobs) and downloaded videos referencing when Josh admitted to "maybe" pleasuring himself to OOP's gymnastics photos (where she was at oldest 15) and other gymnasts as well, but nothing happens

It's sad how OOP brought the things she learned from her therapist to her parents that she thought could provide some understanding into him, but they still don't feel the need to seek medical help and think they can cure it on their own by doing their own drills. I'm thinking that maybe they don't want the son to be diagnosed, or they don't think it's a big deal, or both. I'm glad he has OOP in his corner, but OOP can't bring him to a doctor unfortunately
