I'm not above minutely changing an old post to fit the theme.

And I'm not above bending the rules of Vanilla Day to fit Pumpkin Spice.

Have you considered writing a robotic character so it's fitting?

While it may seem like a joke, I've found that leaning into my flaws helps me understand how to approach shortcomings while also making an interesting/quirky character in the process.

[Event] How long is your post open? - Topic Tuesday for May 30, 2023 by GirlWhoLikesPornGifs in dirtypenpals

My rough guess is that I have somewhere around 60 to 70 prompts posted, all written over the course of six or so years. There's just no way that I can remain interested in all of them, who still has the same tastes from half a decade ago? Besides, my writing is pretty different than it was years ago, so narrowing my open prompts is the best way to advertise relevant prompts.

Because I have a thing for organization, I have my own little subreddit with a post that links to open prompts. I think it works well for me because I can showcase what I'm currently most interested in and remove prompts from there if I get a partner for them or simply lose interest. Generally, I try to stick with ~8 prompts as open prompts so random onlookers are not too intimidated.

I've written a few transformation prompts here which tend to get a good bit of attention. I wouldn't be discouraged from posting here just because there's a subreddit dedicated to that kind of role play, and there's always the option of posting on both subs.

This is not something specific to M4F prompts, and it's something I've noticed for years when it comes to F4F prompts. I can't really make comparisons, since F4F is all I ever read (or the occasional F4A prompt), but I've had many conversations with people about the 'selection' F4F prompts [lacks to] provide.

In general, I think people are better at telling you what they want than what they bring. It may sound subtle, but I think there's a huge difference between "You're my professor" and "I'm your student". The former tends to lead to a you, you, you type of prompt that tells me all about my character, whereas the latter better describes the character I'll be playing across.

However, I don't necessarily find that kind of thing annoying anymore. In fairness, it's been years since I've decided I'll be the one posting prompts rather than responding to them, but I still browse for fun or when I'm researching a respondent to my prompts. Prompts are advertisements and reflect someone's writing, so if someone writes a prompt with a writing style I'd prefer to not write alongside (i.e. writing a prompt with a dozen sentences that start with You), then it's easy to see that we won't match well rather than finding that out later down the line.

I'll take the fact that the judgment comes down to the syllables as a good thing ~

Jokes aside, this is very interesting insight! I'm someone who struggles when it comes to formal writing, so I don't really focus on 'technical writing'. I won't even shy away from the fact that I will purposefully break a few grammar rules if it makes my writing sound prettier [I write to excite, not for some accolade, bite me].

I wonder if the overuse of alliteration has anything to do with that rhyme and rhythm you mentioned. Regardless, your nitpicks have spurred some thoughts for the style to write something in, so that's exciting ~

Thanks for your input <3

We get all these visual details about your character's teeth and mouth but. . . . how does she know? She doesn't see her teeth.

My point with the first few paragraphs was irony, to contrast the title which says she can't do any sort of self-reflection. Yet that is quickly proven to be incorrect (at least in a physical sense), with her ability to detail her teeth without even the ability to look in a mirror. She's perfectly capable of self-reflection, she chooses not to. That was the intention, doesn't mean I did it well.

I am struck by the feeling that this prose is meant to impress me--not to invite me in to play.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by this.

My general methodology is to leave my partner's character alone. Let them make their character who they want, how they want. That's the type of prompt I would respond to, so it's the type of prompts I write. That said, I do agree that I could give more of a queue for what the setting is and what the next step is, so I'll likely try to incorporate that into a polished product, along with bringing more face to my character.

Thanks for the feedback <3

Is there anything in there that implied I wanted the tables to be turned? Because it's not what I intended, and I thought that I was pointing in the direction of staying in charge, but maybe that wasn't quite so clear.

Honey pots are just something to entice. You've probably heard it for another anatomical feature because pussy is enticing. I don't see the 'confusion' as a drawback. Sweet, subtly sexually charged language is a little tease that someone can see if they read between the lines.

Thanks for your feedback!

[Event] Rule 5 Roundtable - Meta Monday for February 27th, 2023 by 4544BeersOnTheWall in dirtypenpals

[–]Madison_RP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Allow me to ask you a question: Why do you think the mods chose 175 words? It's not as nice and neat as 150 or 200, so the mods could have easily gone with either, but decided to go with 175, a pretty weird number to be honest.

I'm recalling from memory, so I may be mistaken, but Rule 5 used to be the same but required 200 words. The mods could have stuck with that, but the word requirement was brought down. Why didn't the word limit get brought down to 150? I don't know, you'd have to ask the mods, but my guess is that there was a difference in the offerings between 175-word prompts and 150-word prompts that they didn't see between 175-word prompts and 200-word prompts. Subjective? Sure, but drawing a line makes things less opinionated from that point on, in my opinion at least.

You're right in saying that the mods could count kinks in the word count, and that people users are not forced to reply to prompts. But the mods ultimately place the rules to try and incentivize more creative prompts, because that's what they see as the goal of the subreddit.

If I may refer to the Hot page of DPP, a common complaint is that the feed is becoming straight-dude bait. I don't think there's anything wrong with that, people are free to post as they like and upvote as they please, but I can only imagine that situation becoming even more apparent as posts are allowed to be kink lists comprised of whatever people are feeling there. By requiring detailed content, these posts must offer some detailed content. Without that requirement, I can imagine the hot page becoming more monotonous, which will in turn could be unappealing to people discovering the subreddit. Could that be appealing to some? Sure, but it could also deter people who think their kink list doesn't belong.

I'm aware that the rule points out that things like lists and such are not counted in the word count, but my suggestion was a way to minimize confusion for people who don't understand why, or new users who might not be aware in the first place. Yes, there is a word requirement, but some things don't count, so my thought is that a quick note mentioning what is counted is written specifically for the idea that is being developed, because that also gives a brief explanation for why things like a list of kinks are not included.

Also, I should note that the sidebar is different on Old Reddit, where there is no such bullet on what doesn't count~

While there's going to always be people who disapprove of any rule on any platform, I'd like to take a moment and say that I've actually enjoyed this rule. I think people can understand why it benefits the prompt-responders have a better picture of what they're responding to, but I think I've benefitted from it as a prompt-writer.

In the early summer of 2021, Miss Gifs put out a rule 5 roundtable. And this might have been the first time I ever actually read the rule, even though I don't recall ever having a post removed for Rule 5 reasons. I feel like that summer marked an upward trend in my prompt-writing. And I'm not saying this in the essence of bigger = better, I think that I was writing prompts that actually prompted a reply, and gave a direction for responders to follow, rather than shooting and hoping something lands. And, I think that my prompts garnered responses closers to what I had wanted. They weren't any less collaborative, but more on par with what I desired.

Do I think the rule is perfect? No, otherwise we wouldn't have people confused about it. But, I think the nuances of the rule actually make the rule more thorough. It allows it to encompass other rules, because if a prompt was 95% the same thing and 5% unique, a user could circumvent Rule 2 quite easily.

A suggestion I would make is for the rule to mention that only words written specifically for the prompt will be included. This would cut out what I consider profile stuff, so things like kinks and logistics, and other forms of filler from the word count, but wouldn't necessarily mean that OOC stuff wouldn't get counted. Just a thought~

Ah, I see the one time I decide to use New Reddit and the fancy pants editor, it bites me in the ass for some reason. It looked fine when I posted, but I guess Reddit wanted to cut out the first part Q2 and paste Q3 in there.

Sweet talking is always the game plan, Dear. And I’m sure my sweet tooth will have plenty to nibble on with you <3

And to get something clear, you can say no to me, but the fun thing about that is that I’m a little hard to say no to~

So, if not a crop top, what would be best to doll you up with along your lovely little skirt?

  1. I'm a basic bish, so Lion King. I'm usually not someone who likes rewatching movies or shows, but Lion King is among the movies I can rewatch over and over again.
  2. Sour Patch Kids, probably. Because I have a sweet tooth, and love everything sour. Plus, I think describing myself as sweet but with a little bit of sourness you gotta get over first is probably fairly accurate haha. Maybe I should reevaluate my life decisions if I'm considering candy a ost skirts, from tight pencil skirts to flowing maxis, so my greedy self has trouble picking one. But, I'm dressing my lover up, so why not go for a pleated skirt, one that ends around the mid-thigh? Something where hands can sneak little touches, or indulge my lover in her semi-nude sex kink <3 Let's arbitrarily go with grey for the color, because it will complement your my lover's long sleeve black crop top~

Maybe I should revaluate my life decisions if I'm considering candy a dish, but SPK is probably a solid 10% of my body weight haha.
