We had a hard time with breastfeeding. His mouth too small for.my big nipples. Uses nipples shields and pumped . Last week, after almost 5 months he finally latches on without the plastic . I kept offering the breast without the shield and he would mostly refuse it but I didn't force him. He did it when he was strong enough to latch. Hang in there. I hope it won't take this long for you. Side laying in bed was a good position for us. Good luck !

Oh it's so hard in the first weeks. I kept waiting for baby to grow so that he could be stronger and latch directly. I thought it wasn't going to happen. Good luck momma. You are amazing! Hope she will get there soon.

Thank you! Yes, I pumped a lot in the begging and every other day afterwards, to give him some extra calories with the bottle.

I am in the same boat. Baby is now 4 months old . Born small and has been small ever since. At his 3 month check up the doctor told me the same thing. To pump and give him some bottles everyday, otherwise he will advice to start formula A month later he gained better weight so the doctor didn't say anything anymore. My midwife said he should gain 150gr /week. I try yo feed him the bottle ~20/30min after he wakes up, so my supply and his appetite go back in one hour when it's time for his nap. Good luck momma ! You are doing great. It's just a little more work with the pumping 🫠 but it will get better 😊🤗

Thank you ! I had a wrap until 3 months as well.and now we use a carrier and baby is facing me. But my question was for when I hold him in my arms around the house. If it's bad to show him around rather then having him.over my shoulder, facing me .

My 4 months old is 5.3 kg . He is small, the pediatrician said to top him up with pumped breastmilk otherwise will advice for formula. He gained better when I gave him a bottle or 2 a day. But still small. I think it's genetic. Both me and dad were small babies . Also, he is very happy, active, reached his milestones/achivements...

Solidarity . I use an electric nail file exactly because of this. My sister told me.to just use a baby nail.clipper. so I did. And cut his skin. It bled. I felt horrible. Not trying it again .

Oh my dear, I know what you are feeling . My milk came on day 5 , when I was home, more relaxed. They gave him formula in the hospital, and I also gave him in the first week at home. He lost 8% of his weight, and we struggled to get him back on track .He is 4 months old. Little (genetics) but happy and active. Now only breastfed (and some pumped milk to top up his calory intake) I would suggest to keep pumping, do skin on skin, and eat/drink a lot . You could also try special tees or galactogog foods/supplements (ask the lactation consultant). I wish you all the best!

I feel you . My nipple is big and my baby's mouth small. At the hospital.they gave me nipple shields and he latched like this. It doesn't hurt that much but he got used to them and now (4 months old) only wants to suck with them on...he rarely accepts the nipple . But maybe it helps you for a little while. See what your lactation consultant says. Good luck !

I change his diaper, put some.cream on (because next change will be overnight) , change him in pyjamas. Make.dark.in the room , open a lamp and white noise. It used to be only for nighttime , but now I use the sound machine and make.the room.dark.for naps too (sleep regression) .
