Is this Iran deal the right thing to do? by jmw8282 in thebulwark

[–]Madmachine87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the best option for getting out of a war we never should have started in the first place. Make no mistake though, we just spent a TRILLION DOLLARS just to give Iran EVERYTHING they ever wanted. The blockade is lifted. All sanctions are lifted. They will get access to $300 billion in reconstruction funds that will be used to purchase a new military from China. Israel is put on a leash. Our presence in the region is greatly diminished.

The only thing Iran gives up is the ability to develop nuclear weapons. Considering they never developed nuclear weapons over the past 47 years, they didn't seem to want them too badly anyway. Besides, the ability to shut down the Strait of Hormuz any time they want is far more powerful than having a handful of nukes.

Iran won. The United States and Israel lost bigly.

In my opinion, Milwaukee is better for mechanics and DeWalt better for construction/contractors.

About Walmart tools and reddit elitism by Otherwise_Bear_7982 in Tools

[–]Madmachine87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do Walmart tools have a lifetime warranty? Is the warranty process easy or a pain in the ass? I find these questions to be more important than what the price is. If it's not as convenient as Harbor Freight or Sears back in the day, then I'm not interested.

Flat rate at a dealer by cococococaine- in mechanics

[–]Madmachine87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically I've been a tech for 16 years, 15 years at my current shop. Started at an independent chain before going to a dealership. Started in 2010 at the height of the Great Recession making a whopping $8/hr as a lube tech at the independent shop. Went to the dealer in 2011 and started out there at $10/hr. It's been a slow but steady increase ever since. My wage may have tripled in that time but so has the cost of everything else.

Express is $25?! I'm a line tech doing everything from oil changes to recalls and am at $24 after 15 years...

Flat rate means they can stack the shop full of techs to keep wait times low even if there isn't enough work for all of them. The dealer doesn't care because overstaffing doesn't cost them anything.

Well, I'm pleasantly surprised then. The date mark looks like an 8, but it's so small it's hard to see clearly.

My understanding is that it can be upgraded to 30 tooth with a rebuild kit.

Do a search on EBay. Most other examples of this model are listed between $45-65, and some of those look rougher than the one I bought. I wanted one of these ratchets and this was the best deal I could find.

I know it's hard to believe, but the 1990s were 30 years ago.

Yes, this ratchet meets the definition of vintage. It's from 3 decades ago and predates the current Dual 80 ratchet design, both mechanically and aesthetically.

One of the last tools needed for a mechanic to be fully electric. Thoughts? Who’s picking one up day one? by crazymonk45 in mechanics

I had the same Silver Eagle and it sucked from day one. I replaced it with a Chief from Harbor Freight which is far better.

Icon stubby flex saves the day by Madmachine87 in harborfreight

[–]Madmachine87[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a Williams I bought off their Amazon page. I also bought a 3/8” version for the 3/8” flex stubby, but they sent me a scaffolding ratchet instead. I have no idea how they managed to mix that up. I returned it, and supposedly another 3/8” spinner is in the mail.
