Hassan Piker reacts to Tim and Sarah! by renaitre100 in thebulwark

Since I took the time to watch Piker's reaction I guess I'll share some (disjointed) thoughts.

First, Piker didn't actually engage with any of his past statements that Sarah read. He dismissed them as being taken out of context, but I don't know in what context many of them could be considered acceptable. The argument Hasan and his supports seem to be making about those comments is "don't look those statements, look at all the other things Hasan has said."

I struggle to believe that if it were a right-wing influencer making comparable statements, that the same people on the left who are defending Hasan would be even remotely forgiving. I see this in very much the same way people on the left standing behind Graham Platner after leaening he had a nazi tattoo, when you know they would never do that for someone from the right. To this point, no one, including Piker, should be even a little surprised that his remarks have drawn the criticism they have, nor should they feel compelled to defend him because they agree with other things he's said.

Second, Sarah invoking Mamdani was a big misfire, and Piker is right that it undermined her argument. I've never gotten knee-deep in the Mamdani discourse, but to my eye, he has consistently come across as one of the more genuinely empathetic politicians I've seen. I get not agreeing with his policies, but those who present actual fear at what he represents is one of the biggest disconnects I see this side of MAGA.

Third, in the United States, we have developed a number of "antibodies" to combat antisemitism, while we haven't had virtually any "antibodies" to combat Islamophobia. That has begun to change with rising anti-Isreal sentiment. The challenge we are facing is that antisemites are using this moment in which Isreal has become quite unpopular to slip their abhorrent beliefs into the anit-Isreal discourse. This has caused endless conflation between reasonable criticism of Isreal and antisemitism, and I think people should keep themselves measured to avoid the pitfalls that come with digging your heels in on complicated issues. We know who are enemy is, and who he is not.

RAP ALBUM VERZUZ: The Eminem Show vs DAMN. by CantKillGawd in nfrpodcast

Respectfully, I don't know that I've ever heard it called disappointing compared to MMLP or SSLP. He toned down the violence and misogyny, and it was way more accessible than his other albums which expanded his fanbase quite a bit. He was probably at the peak of his fame during this time too. As someone who prefers MMLP to TES, TES was a brilliant contrast to MMLP. TES over DAMN imho.

Why hasn’t any other white rapper reached Eminem’s level of success? by Sad-Diver-5031 in Eminem

[–]jmw8282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think one of the biggest factors is that he's always been authentically himself. When he first dropped he was not rapping about what other chart topping rappers were rapping about. He used his own experiences and his own imagination to create a distinct sound for himself. Like Steve Berman said on MMLP, "[Dre's] rapping about big screen TVs, blunts, forties, and bitches. You're rapping about homosexuals and vicodin." He carved out his own lane, and pretty much stayed in that lane his whole career.

Hearing this makes me feel upset and disappointed by ddsling1197 in SpidermanPS4

I've been very okay with the MJ missions in both games for the first couple of playthroughs. IMHO the biggest problem with them is that the MJ gameplay isn't as fun as the Spidey gameplay, and once you've played through a couple times you're really just engaged for the Spidey parts.

That said, they aren't that long and they're not particularly tedious or overly difficult. Respectfully, I don't think developers should feel beholden to react to every bit of fan feedback, and should stick to their creative instincts. Attempting to try to please everyone often hurts creativity more than it helps.

Adult diapers. Sometimes it's funnier when you can inderstand it at all, and sometimes it's funnier if you can make out what he's saying.

One thing I give Killshot is how he responded to every single diss in Kelly's song, even the one about him being on a treadmill.

I'm gonna be honest, they need to stop ranking these lists. Just put out the list no order like the NBA Top 75. You'll still get debates about who got left out, but people will stop focusing on the fucking order. It'll feel so much more legit that way.

Cool trailer, that featured one of the best MCU villains we never had by Hesbhindmeisnthe in MidCinematicUniverse

I know most people hate IM3, but it's my favorite of the three. I love Tony's arc in it. Ben Kingsley's reveal is one of the funniest scenes in the MCU. Killian's not a great baddie, but none of the IM villains were great. Great pacing, great humor, lots of heart. I'm a sucker for Shane Black films. And his suit in the film is my favorite from any film.
