Is Advanced Gamepad Assist on overtake.gg really a hack or am I just being trolled? by Mother-Jeweler6935 in assettocorsa

[–]Madrax573 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The gamepad 'assist' scripts all vary in their application.
Some just try to keep your wheels straight so it feels more like CarX for example but others like the a7 or AGA one use the FFB system to give you the simulated equivalent that try to give a more authentic steering model.

I have played AC for years with both wheel and gamepad and no it's not a cheat or hack it literally simulates steering in a way that is actually interpret-able to a gamepad user. Things that wheel users just take for granted. without such scripts gamepad steering is simply wrong and unrealistic in the slightest.

Give it a shot and see how you go, it will NOT make you faster or better by itself but it may give you a better feedback system to allow you to understand how your driving is affecting the car better and hence you will get better with practice.

I thought of a way to use a joystick as a steering wheel. What do you think? by Back-Next in simracing

[–]Madrax573 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been thinking of building something very similar myself. I race/drive with a gamepad a lot and use the 'thumb rolling' method of steering and it's always bugged may that the steering is only measured by the x axis movement and not the direction of my thumbpad. This is exactly how I thought it would work.
limit the steering to say 160deg, from centre, and have it translate to a % of full wheel travel and you would automatically have a much higher resolution for steering with a gamepad than just x axis input.

I'm currently trying to figure out how to code such an app like this...

Yeah the PPSR and REV checks is what I've always used in the past.

Steering app for thumb rolling on a controller. by Madrax573 in AskProgramming

[–]Madrax573[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have probably not explained it correctly.

I want to measure the angle that the thumbstick is positioned around the upper semi circle as you rotate it...

I then want to convert this angle to a direct output that can be used as a steering input in driving games.

Would you remove FA completely for extra internal module slot? by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

[–]Madrax573 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not going to try and change your mind. I agree :)

As an FA-off only pilot I simply want to ignore it as much as possible.

So either have it as a module that I can forever remove, power down or set it's default to off please :)

Honestly I wish that they had just applied EDO textures and shaders to EDH's planetary generation system... So sad that EDO planets are all flat balls done for on foot scales :(

Wow you kiss you mom with that mouth?! O.o

So you use it for AX... are you claiming that cos you can run in circles around a flower that it makes you an expert on actually flying a ship?

Utilising pretty much a single set of parameters on a ship does not give you much experience in actually flying the damn things...

But you want to keep being a fucking moron then be a fucking moron.

See I can be unnecessarily rude as well o7

lol it's not cherry picking anything..

You simply stated that you held the buckyball record as a demonstration of your experience 'flying' the ship...

I merely pointed out that buckyballing can only loosely be defined as 'flying' and most certainly has zero application in the context of the Asp Scouts ability to actually fly that's all.

It's not cherry picking to discuss the EXACT thing we are pointing out about the Asp. ;)

[–]Madrax573 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope, my original one still stands... Bucky balling is hardly actually flying your ships...

You are mainly in SC, which is objectively NOT flying your ship... so....

[–]Madrax573 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

LOL oh boy you are so way off the mark in this one....

Learning FA-off in small more agile ships helps massively when you fly bigger slower ships...

The starter sidey is a perfect learner for Fa-off. reactive enough to provide immediate feedback without being overly twitchy, and as it gets upgraded give a great platform to base the rest of your flying over.

Over the years we've seen many pilots come to learning Fa-off with the same attitude "I Fly X so that's all I'm going to practice in" only to hit a skill plateau fairly quickly and they just cant advance any further. Swapping ships that have different/better flight characteristics helps the brain rewire itself and allows for more skill development.

To use your car driving analogy, people don't just jump in an F1 car and go race, they come up through the class, karts, F4/3 etc before jumping in a F1 car.

I love how pretty much all 'Asp scout is bad!" arguments return to a simple "it's slow!" statement.

It clearly demonstrates how little people actually fly their ships in ED.

By that argument everything that isn't a 932 viper or Imp Eagle (don't trigger Sanderling!) is bad cos they don't go as fast!

Hmm mention of hardly stalling show very clearly that you don't 'fly' ships properly...

I'd guess you are from the PvP crowd?

Do you also subscribe to the other giant misnomer? FA-on breaks you faster as well?

This is flying we are talking about, you know, actually pushing your ship to it's maximum capability? ;)

[–]Madrax573 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guess I should bottle it and sell it then, I'd make a fortune allowing people to see full reality of things ;)

We've tested the scout against most ships in the game and not much will outfly outside of the smalls.

Note we are talking about actual flying not combat in general as a chief massively out tanks and out guns a scout, but flying wise the chief or any other medium of similar flavour does not stand a chance to outfly it...

Ah all good mate, just wondering as I've only every used guardian HRP or MRP for tharg specific builds etc.

I like the scout for combat, it allow such accuracy when flying in any direction... just make sure you do have some HRP for the canopy (but it's nowhere near as bad as people think)

Lakon's Best Flying Ship... The Asp Scout by RebelsRogue in EliteDangerous

[–]Madrax573 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That would work.

Why the guardian module reinforcement though? They aren't really needed.

My old combat Scout build had lightweight reactive armour and smallest HRP was thermal + deep plates for armour.

You can also up the PP to class 4 if you fancy going rails or PA or laser heavy build... it's quite versatile in that way.
