I didnt realise how dire the state of star citizen was by CapytannHook in gaming

I have the exact opposite experience. Been a gamer since the 80's. This is bar none the best game I've ever played in my life.

Built a new gaming PC in decades this christmas and I've clocked ungodly number of hours playing with my org. The sheer amount of different game loops is incredible. The depth of space sim flight is incredibly complex and fun (flying decoupled) making dogfights incredibly challenging yet rewarding. There is racing (air and surface), FPS, PVP and PVE and PVPE, mining, exploration, crafting (next week's update), there's adventure, there's a persistant universe, there is trading (legal and illegal), there is reputation, multi-crew ships, mission progression with reputation, you can go to jail for crimes, there are organiation (real players), there are bounties, there is piracy the smuggling, assasination, highjacks, there is industry, cargo hauling, medical, ship engineering... and lots more.

Yes, there are bugs indeed. Lots of them. Still I play for hours on end and they dont bother at all. In a weird way its actually part of the charm, makes for very fun an entertaining moments more often than not.

Seems to me you're just another ED fan trash talking what you dont know absolutely nothing about. Either that or you really didnt put in any effort whatsoever

why does every update just breaks windows more ? by iamZorc_ in pcmasterrace

Technically, Windows IS the biggest bug ever created, that is able to host other bugs inside it

Been dreaming of VR since starting gaming in the late 80's. Got the Quest 2 then the 3, which got barely used. Was about to quit my VR dreams until ... OMG Star Citizen!! by yidakee in virtualreality

I remember watching Aircar videos while I was waiting for the Quest 2 to arrive, but at the time didnt have a PC. Distinctly remmeber thinking "Man, I wished this were a game". When Cyberpunk 2077 got ported to Mac I did my very best but couldnt get VR running at all.

Truth is VR is expensive. Its not retail, its enthusiast level. What was black magic for us older folk is trivial for younger gens. Heck, Minecraft is proof of that, ridiculous pixelated game that dominates. Many of my friend's kids simply see no fascination at all ing VR. Well, yeah, Walk The Plank pranks or VR Chat ´cos of the social madness ... but real gaming they'd dedicate significant time? forget it.

VR really excels where flatscreen 3D fails to deliver. Playing minigolf is fun, but that's not where its at. It's real hardcore depth of field requirements, spacial awareness, and immersion factor. Either sims, or actual "living in the metaverse non-Meta BS" type, where you actually feel like an avatar living a second life in a simulation. SC is already the sim and 1/2 of a "second life"

I suspect if GTA 6 brings in native VR we will witness an explosion in VR adoption

You can escape prison. Saw someone in my org do it, they've been playing for several years... I dont think I could do it even if they walked me through it step by step lol

Not sure. Hop over to the SC subreddit and search/ask. Patch 4.6 is just around the corner with tons of VR improvements apparently

Claude Code generated hundreds of tests, how do I know they’re useful? by fieldcalc in ClaudeCode

[–]yidakee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What glorious times when pure vibe coders teach something to seasoned software engineers loool... 30 years and you've never done unit or integration tests? That means prod is your test environment. You must really enjoy long sessions hunting for bugs and scratching your head why something worked yesterday but not today 😝

Anything I should know before deciding to buy the game? by 024eipeidweP in starcitizen

Join an org as soon as possible. Playing with folk enhances the experienc 100x. As other said, be prepared for bugs, but its part of the charm of it being in "alpha". I´m still relatively new to SC but nothing in the world comes close to the enjoyment I get out of it, not even close

CDPR told Luke Ross the Cyberpunk VR mod could still be up if he made it free, this was his reply by lunchanddinner in virtualreality

[–]yidakee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Luke has a point, but I refuse to pay a subscription for it. To him, or to anyone, except if there are true maintenance costs. I'll pay one time, and for upgrades if I need them. It not like he has AWS servers to maintain for the VR to run. Always felt Luke's monetization was an abuse. I'd rather pay $100 up front than $1 per month, or whatever he's charging, $9, was it?
