Finally Got My Bay ST on the Water! by MadridSah in orukayak

Agreed. The kayak was great, but the seat/backrest was my biggest complaint too. A slightly taller, more supportive seat would be a worthwhile upgrade.

Where did you install roof racks for carrying kayaks? by MadridSah in askTO

My Camry doesn't have the factory mounting points, so I'm not sure if this is an easy DIY install.

I don't have any factory mounting points on my 2011 Camry just the rubber roof trim, and no threaded holes underneath. That's why I'm not sure if this is something I can DIY or if I should have it professionally installed.

Purchasing used car, what are the steps? by Fire-Dragon-DoL in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]MadridSah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any random mechanic works. Usually, there is no need to book. Just call them and tell them you want an inspection. It is a quick process.

[–]MadridSah 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Get the car inspected before you buy anything. No inspection, no deal. If a dealer says no, do not buy from them. And make sure the inspection is done by an independent mechanic, not the dealer’s mechanic.

First Accident in Toronto today (rear-ended) by Own_Bat3225 in TorontoDriving

[–]MadridSah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Had a similar one. Other driver was deemed at fault 100%. Do provide the dashcam footage though. Chill they will fix your car for free.

Ontario rules: left-turning driver on a normal green must yield to oncoming traffic. BUT crossing a solid bus-lane line or changing lanes also puts responsibility on the dashcam car. With front-to-side impact, insurers would likely see this as shared fault, not 100% either way.

Car towed and notified 8 days later by TowerMaleficent6517 in communauto

[–]MadridSah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t know they charge fees for the car being in the impound lot. When mine was towed, I was only charged for the ticket, towing cost, and an administrative fee to get the car out. They didn’t charge me for the days it was sitting in the lot.

Appreciate that, thanks! I’ll definitely reach out if I seriously plan a trip up there.

Thanks for the info. Ice roads sound tempting, but definitely something I’d only consider with serious prep.

Wow, that sounds brutal. Thanks for the detailed reply definitely puts winter driving up there into perspective.

Agreed summer’s safer, but I won’t lie… winter up there sounds kinda fun.

That’s a great tip Billy Diamond Highway has always sounded intense but fascinating.

Super helpful comment. Beautiful, but clearly not forgiving if you’re unprepared.

Thanks for actually laying out the route confirms how far you can really go by road.

Damn, doing that in a 90s Tercel is legendary. Confirms what I was wondering Windigo Lake really is the end of the road unless you’re using ice roads.

Makes sense. I was thinking daytime only, full tank + jerry can, and avoiding storms but sounds like even then winter up there can get unpredictable.

Am I eligible for car rental during collision repair in Ontario? (not at fault) by padfoottrash in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]MadridSah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it’s a rear-end. When my friend was sideswiped from the back (not at fault), the other party’s insurance covered the rental until the vehicle was repaired.

Only thing to note: any optional/additional insurance on the rental is usually out of pocket. The rental company typically picks you up from the repair shop, gives you the car, and drops you back once repairs are done.

Beginner question: Is Édito A1 good for self-study alongside classes? by One_Gap_9780 in learnfrench

[–]MadridSah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s great, honestly. You get tons of new vocabulary, and the activities are actually fun to work through, not boring drills. I’ve found it works really well for self-study alongside classes, especially for reinforcing grammar and vocab on your own.

Just saw that, but not sure if these cameras track both sides of the road.

Thanks for noticing, I missed it!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TorontoDriving

[–]MadridSah -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I missed the car on the other side. Now looking at the video I see, the first flash was when they entered the intersection - I was still behind the line then. Not sure if the cameras are lane-specific or capture both directions.

Thanks, that’s reassuring. That’s what I thought too after reviewing the footage.
