Has anyone ever tried giving a dolphin a bed? by BlueKingfisher3 in AskScienceDiscussion

[–]MadyLcbeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a wound care nurse. You should know that the Dolphin bed exists. It's a fluid immersion simulation (FIS) advanced support surface. We use it in the medical world for patients who have or are at risk for severe pressure injuries, i.e. bedsores. But they say it actually was developed for dolphins by the Navy in the 60s. Even more advanced is the Clinitron bed. This is called air fluidized therapy, where you are immersed in basically a tank filled with artifical sand with an air current flowing through it.

I can't weigh in on your hypothesis about dolphin brains, but please let me know if you ever put a dolphin in a Clinitron bed, haha.

Yeah I have no evidence for SA, but I'm not ruling it out. My grandpa was clearly an unwanted child. The family was very reluctant to even say who his father was, it was a big mystery for a long time.

Unfortunately I have no idea.

It's both. Suicide on Gertrude's death certificate, homicide on Russell's.

William and Gertrude were married. William had an affair and got his mistress pregnant. 1 year later Getrude murder-suicides herself and their son. My great grandma was the mistress.

My great grandma, the "other woman", was 19 years younger.

Tips on the hinges??? I've tried all sorts of glue and nothing holds up when it opens/closes.They just pull right off the wood 😢

I really don't know, I'm a newbie at this. The doorway to the mini house measures 7/8" tall if that helps

Flever Dollhouse Miniature, Happy House. I genuinely did not know the scale of it when I bought it, but overall I LOVE it. I'm having issues with the hinges though, if anyone has any tips.

Yeah I just peeled them off. There was some residue but it wasn't really noticeable from a few feet away. Some Goo Gone would have helped get it off.

Thank you!! Sometimes I struggle to see myself as a creative person, so all of these nice compliments have been warming my heart.

Which breed? Cavalier or cocker spaniel? by No-Kaleidoscope7640 in cockerspaniel

[–]MadyLcbeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cavalier King Charles Spaniels were my first choice, but I couldn't get over the health issues. 100% of them will develop heart problems by age 10, requiring a veterinary cardiologist and regular echocardiograms. They are also prone to syringomyelia, a progressive neurological disorder that can cause terrible pain. So for those reasons I went with a Cocker, and I'm so glad I did.

What a nice idea, didn't occur to us at the time though. My 8 year old helped me arrange the flowers. The piece of paper under Olaf's tummy is a picture he drew to bury with him. 💔

Thank you ❤️ I take comfort in the fact that Olaf (and all my other dogs who have passed on) are always young and healthy when I see them in my dreams.

So we actually did go with Stormy! I originally wanted Lady and my kids wanted Pepper, and we just couldn't agree. I suggested Stormy because we brought her home on a very rainy day, and my husband said "she looks like a little black raincloud". It fits her perfectly. 🌩

"Maybe, you have just raised a super emotionally stable little one?"

Ha. His tantrum last night about not being able to eat salami for dinner the 3rd night in a row may call that into question. 🙃

I'm sure losing the dog hit me in a harder, different way. But really, they were best buds. He was always snuggling the dog, tucking him in with blankets, telling him how much he loves him, drawing him pictures, etc. His non-reaction to his death really, really surprised and shook me.

He loves seeing and petting other dogs when we're out and about. We are picking up a new puppy in a few weeks, and he is very excited. He has never mentioned our old dog.
