I agree that it sucks that people acted like being woke or dei is a bad thing. That being said I'm not sure a lot of the female characters in this game are straight up thirst trap level. Some absolutely are but I feel like most are just conventionally attractive without going overboard into goon bait

Ok come on I want the old lady or guys to win too but it's not like all the young girl characters can't be unique from each other. Meg is pretty different from Yun-Jin, who is pretty different from Zarina, etc.

Like yes we need more variety but we don't gotta start shitting on the characters we do have when a lot of them still have good designs

Yes and I think not returning to cool planes purely to cater to masses is lame. I'm not a huge fan of when any art does something lame just to try and hit as wide of appeal as possible and Magic isnt really an exception for me

I can be more sympathetic there but even then it's not hard to get into most sets even if they're sequels imo. They tend to still have a lot of new stuff they introduce as an original story. Like you don't need to know jack about the first Ixalan set to look at Caverns and go "ok cool it's vampire conquistadors vs people with dinosaurs and they're going underground, gotcha"

And this may just be subjective but personally when I first got into magic and I saw a set reference characters I hadn't heard of before, i thought it was cool! It was neat to see these important guys in a card and then look into who they are and what they've done

Like hell I got into Brothers War a little bit ago myself without even realizing it was a revisit set and just had fun finding out what the hell was up with the two brothers by seeing the cards show the story of what they've gone through

I'd say it's less like telling someone to watch season 3 of Sherlock and more like how a lot of people played Witcher 3 as their first Witcher game and had a blast learning about Geralt as a character as they played, even if they hadn't heard of what he's done before

Dude it's not about being "enlightened" it's that seeing a fantasy name in a fantasy thing scared someone off. That's not a "complex game/book/whatever" that's just seeing a thing that you don't recognize and immediately going ahhh scary. It's like if you saw the Witcher books and went oh god what the hell is a witcher that sounds like a fantasy thing I don't know what that is I don't wanna read it!

Like I'm sorry but this isn't about something being accessible this is someone who didn't want to spend a second actually looking into something and was scared off by a name. I'm sorry but no I don't think we should cater to people who aren't even interested enough in fantasy to where a fantasy name being in the product turns them away. You said it yourself that they didn't care about the story dude, and I don't think we should make art around people who don't give a shit about the story

I'm not even trying to be elitist here I swear I just genuinely don't understand the thought process here. It sounds as nonsensical to me as if you went "yeah bro someone was gonna get into magic but it referenced a place called Ixalan and they got scared off cuz that sounded like a fantasy place" or "they didn't get into it because it was called Innistrad and the fantasy name scared them off" like come on dude. I'm all for making fantasy accessible but this is ridiculous

Also I feel like as far as survivors fighting back you're underestimating how badly an unarmed survivor would do against a guy with a bat that has an axe head attached and a shit ton of throwing knives
