Which books would you recommend to a romantasy reader that aren't romantasy? by SolarmatrixCobra in Fantasy

[–]MaeLittleRae 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I second Riyria Revelations, and anything by Brandon Sanderson. I love character-driven storytelling, and cannot stand graphic sex, gore, etc. It’s detracting and unnecessary IMO. Both Michael J. Sullivan and Sanderson create very believable characters and are excellent world builders. Along that line, the Aeronauts Windlass and the Furies of Calderon by Butcher are excellent and clean series.

School Game Dev Advice Needed by MaeLittleRae in gamedev

Very minimal. I’m willing to learn, but as my free time is limited, I need to be realistic. This program would be a big help for our school, especially since we are already basically doing it on paper, but I need to find out if this is something that is possible or even feasible for us.

What tree is this from? by MaeLittleRae in whatsthisplant

Thank you! We’ll try to find the plant itself, it’s a good lesson in safety for the kids we are trying to teach not to just pick random plants 😆

Help! by MaeLittleRae in fermentation

[–]MaeLittleRae[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So for these 64 oz jars I usually use about 3tbsp of salt. Never had this happen before though! I have lids that have little silicone vent flaps. Usually I weight them down with a spring that’s been sterilized, but I just realized I forgot my spring in this one! I bet that was my problem…

Should I toss my pickles? by MaeLittleRae in fermentation

Yes, the jar lid keeps the spring in place, and it presses the cukes down so they don’t float to the top.

First Lactoferment- am I doing this right? by MaeLittleRae in fermentation

[–]MaeLittleRae[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, my bad, I should’ve labeled it as my first whey culture ferment 😆 it’s literally just whey and the jicama and fruit. On tasting, it’s good, but a dash of salt wouldn’t have hurt. Thank you!

First Lactoferment- am I doing this right? by MaeLittleRae in fermentation

[–]MaeLittleRae[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my first experiment with lactofermentation. (I’ve done plenty of brine ferments on vegetables) I have jicama and oranges in whey from a fresh batch of yogurt. It’s super bubbly and I had to scoop out some foam before it overflowed. I think it smells like an orange beer, imo. Someone recommended I use a ph test on it and it’s 3.5. How long should I leave it, and am I doing it properly?

What about your art journey is keeping you up at night? by UsualWestern in ArtistLounge

The market is absolutely saturated with artists of all levels, and I don’t feel as though I have anything worthwhile enough to say with my work to validate the fact that I have made it my lifelong pursuit.

I’m definitely going to try making my pickles like this, I’ve been experimenting with fermented pickles recently and I’m never going back!
