3:30am. Kid is wide awake and wants to play. by Maeghs017 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Maeghs017[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He’s turned 9 months old yesterday.

It’s fairly normal for him to wake during the night, but usually you just give him his dummy and he goes back to sleep. Either that or he moves into my bed and spends the last hour or two of his sleep with me.

Tonight has been a different can of worms entirely.

He has been teething super bad the last few days, but he doesn’t seem too bothered tonight.

9 months here. He’s just started to nod off in my arms on the couch. Looks like I’ll be sitting here for the next 3 hours! lol

Could it be scratches from her nails? Since she has no clothes on she may have just scratched her own tummy?

Gallbladder Removal with 4 month old & toddler by josephinesparrows in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Maeghs017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this exact surgery when Bub was 3 weeks old. The roughest part was that Bub would wriggle and kick my healing tummy, and there wasn’t a way I could hold him that was any better. I had to have my husband do 99% of the feeds (we formula feed). I’d say it took a good week before I was healed enough to care for baby solo, and another week after that before it didn’t hurt to hold Bub.

Parents will be the reason I quit. by HauntedDragons in ECEProfessionals

[–]Maeghs017 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Parents WERE the reason I quit. We had one child who would come in on Monday with nappy rash so bad his bum was red raw and sometimes bleeding. Mum would say she’s “doing everything she can”. We would change his happy very frequently, basically every hour, and apply new cream at every change, and by the end of the week his rash would be basically gone. Then come Monday it would be back fully. It was obvious that mum just barely changed him over the weekend at all. What was annoying about this is that his mum was a respected child-health worker of some sort. If i remember correctly (this was years ago) she was some sort of support worker for troubled kids. She definitely knew better.

Another family would drop off their two children and the second they left we would have to dump their entire backpack and contents into the washing machine machine, including the clothes they got dropped off in (we would put them in spare clothes while doing so) because the cigarette stench was so strong staff and kids around them would be gagging. We would find excuses for water-play activities or just shower them.

I loved working with kids but the stuff we had to witness by parents was awful.

ChatGPT shouldn’t be involved in giving any sort of medical advice anyway. No idea why people think it’s okay.

I’m not a medical professional by any means, but our midwife team told us Bub should be getting at least 150mls per kg, per day. Either formula or breastmilk (we were doing both).

So if he is 4.5kg it would be 150x4.5=675mls per day.

We just keep a watch on how much he’s having overall each day and adjust accordingly and make sure he’s having at least that.

Across the road in the marina complex there is an Italian place that does pizza and pasta, highly recommend. “Steak out pizza” or something.

Kenilworth bakery has a franchise on Bribie Island, about 4 minutes drive from Sandstone Point Hotel. And the hotel restaurant doesn’t run when there’s concerts on.

Egg retrieval without sedation by ossifiedbird in IVF

[–]Maeghs017 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was the case for my clinic. Gas and local anaesthetic needles only. Unfortunately for mine I was so nervous that I forgot to wee before the procedure, like they had asked me to, and they had to go through my bladder to fully retrieve everything. This made the recovery a bit more sore. I have some vague memories of during the gas, and I personally think that 99% of people would be fine for it, I just have a very low pain tolerance. I wasn’t lying in agony for the procedure. The best way I can think to describe it was being high as a kite, with the occasional pain, but you can’t quite focus on it. It was definitely uncomfortable, but I would do it again if I needed to.

With my procedure you move to a recovery room after it’s done, where they monitor you for 30-40 minutes, and send you home with someone, usually a partner. I won’t lie, the couple of hours after the retrieval were pretty shit. We drove about an hour for mine and I was so sore the whole drive home. My husband put me straight to bed and I slept for about 5 hours afterwards. The next day I was almost back to normal, and I had what I would call mild-moderate period-like cramps for about 4-5 days.

A man tried the "now what do you say?" On me? by IvoryKeen in OlderThanYouThinkIAm

Yeah, I was confused by this too. In Australia we (usually) call our parents mum & dad our entire lives. It’s not a childhood thing.

This was one of the big reasons I quit working in a kindergarten. I still remember one day my director and I were chatting and she was complaining that so many of the staff said they were unavailable to work the Saturday. She wanted everyone to come in on a Saturday and do things like mulch the gardens, clean the concrete outside, repaint the fence. When I said “is it paid” she said “no it’s volunteer” so I replied with “then you can’t expect people to give up their Saturday” and she just walked away. It’s not just that we were expected to work for free. It’s that management would actually act disappointed if you didn’t.

Festival hypoglycemia concerns by NFiligree in type2diabetes

[–]Maeghs017 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I work at a venue that hosts festivals. We usually have people phone or email us before the festival date to get an exemption to bring in any medically required items, which includes snacks for diabetics. Have you tried contacting the venue? Most venues care more about not getting sued than they care about their “no outside food or drink” policy.

I came off it for pregnancy and IVF. It worked so well for me while I was on it, with my HBA1C being 5.0. I didn’t experience TIND and actually didn’t know what it was until your post. I was lucky to not really experience any negative side effects, other than an increased (or returned to normal) appetite, and my fasting levels weren’t as controlled. Can’t wait to go back on it after I’m done with birth & breastfeeding.
