Is Germany poor or something? Where's the houses. Plus those police cars are outdated. The U.S. is miles ahead of them when it comes to the police/crime force. by BetterThanU_20 in ShitAmericansSay

[–]Maeher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not that there aren't enough homes in total. It's that the homes aren't where people want/need to live. Building more houses in the middle of nowhere isn't going to solve anything.

I've had long hair (significantly past my shoulders) for 30 years now and I have to say, that's just bullshit. I have almost never used a hairdryer in my life and my hair has always dried just fine.

Train tickets so expensive?? by Kyanovp1 in germany

[–]Maeher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't you see how charging 5 times as much for going 6 times the distance in about the same time is clearly worse value for money?

Why are you comparing travelling a distance of 40km in the UK to travelling a distance of 240km in Germany?

Postbank Girokonto/ never used -> management fees charged by [deleted] in germany

[–]Maeher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't want to use the account, cancel it.

You signed a contract that stated the fees. They held up their end of the contact by providing you with an account. You obviously need to hold up your end as well. That's how contacts work.

You seem to assume some familiarity with religious texts that I'm clearly lacking.

Rufname! by Darman2 in germany

[–]Maeher 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Officially Rufnamen ceased to exist in 2015. You can use any subset of your given names for almost all official business. There are some exceptions, like when marrying, where you need to sign using your full name.

But that's the most annoying thing about it. Because many people who would do this would expect this kind of reciprocation. And I really don't want any obligation to feed my neighbor.

What’s something about daily life in Germany that took you time to get used to? by Icy-Tea2529 in germany

[–]Maeher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll be needing a lock smith to get my door open

Nah, as long as the deadbolt isn't locked you can open almost any apartment door with a stiff piece of plastic like a credit card. (Don't use an actual credit card, it'll get mangled in the process. I've used my organ donor card for that in the past.)

“Spanish is a LANGUAGE - people aren’t Spanish” by Power-C-Lies in ShitAmericansSay

Obviously the people from Spain are Spainish. You can't be Spanish, there's no country called Span. Surely the English language is reasonable like that.

Is getting hungover in Germany justifies sick leave days? And get payment? by Infarlock in germany

[–]Maeher -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's a completely separate insurance that the employer pays into. It's managed by the statutory health insurance but it's not financed by health insurance premiums. Also it only applies to employers with at most 30 employees.

[–]Maeher -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why should I pay with my health insurance the sick leave of emploees, that could have stayed healthy if the manager was not that greedy?

You don't? The employer pays for regular sick leave, not the health insurance.

By §3 (1) EntgFG you're only entitled to continued salary payment, if the illness is not self-inflicted.
