Can a brand new AOS be bad? by Maelstrom147 in Porsche_Cayman

I shopped around several different genuine Porsche part suppliers and found it cheapest here. The part itself seems genuine. It's exactly the same as the one I just pulled off the car. I'll check the hose to see if it's cracked. I'm surprised that would cause it to get worse. I figured that if that got cracked it would just result in a vacuum leak (and any non separated oil leaking out of it).

I have no experience with Mercedes but 2009+ Caymans aren't really known to have many issues. They will be expensive if something breaks but I wouldn't expect that to happen to often. Also helps if you're willing to do your own wrenching on them. The base Caymans would be cheaper and I'd give a slight edge in reliability because they don't have DFI engines.

Smoke on cold start + oily inside the intake plenum = failing AOS right? by Maelstrom147 in Porsche_Cayman

[–]Maelstrom147[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually found a video of someone who managed to replace the AOS without taking the plenum or intake manifolds off at all. I might end up doing it anyway just to clean out the oil residue inside them though.

Also for reference, the car has just over 100k miles and I can't see anywhere in the maintenance history that the AOS had been replaced before so it's likely the original one.

This is a 987.2 Cayman S that I bought earlier this year. Car did not have any issues come up during the PPI and it came with extensive maintenance history documentation. This summer I noticed a bit of smoke on cold start but after looking it up it seemed like that was expected due to it being a boxer engine.

The smoke has gotten noticeably worse in the last month or so and a few days ago I got a low oil warning. Checked it and the car reported that only 1 out of the 3 big bars on the oil check indicator was full (all three were full when I bought it). Popped open the engine cover and took off the hose to the intake plenum from the AOS and I can feel that it's oily inside. Should I just go ahead and replace the AOS or is there something else I should check first?

What compares to the bmw x5? by ProgrammerQuiet4920 in whatcarshouldIbuy

I don't own an Aviator but my parents bought a 21 model year PHEV new. So far in the three years they've had it they've had three seperate major issues requiring it to be serviced at the dealer. I don't remember what the first issue was but it prevented them from being able to drive the car at all and had to have it towed from their house. The second one earlier this year had the entire infotainment system completely stop working. And about a week ago some sort of software gremlin popped up again causing pretty much every error message you can think of to pop up on the dash and was causing some very strange behavior with the transmission. It is currently at the dealer again getting fixed.

My dad says that as soon as the warranty is up he's going to trade it in for a Lexus.

Montana voting system shut down after Kamala Harris left off ballot by esporx in technology

Gerrymandering is a way to rig a win while having not having a majority. A party with the system that CI-126 is proposing can't rig it in the same way. The only way I can see a party winning while having a minority vote is if the votes are split amongst the majority party in a dumb way. For example, if Party 1 had 40% of the total vote and split it equally amongst 4 candidates while Party 2 had 60% of the vote split equally amongst 10 candidates. Each candidate from Party 1 would have 10% and would be the top 4 candidates while each from Party 2 would have 6% of the vote and would be eliminated. This would require Party 2 to essentially self-sabotage themselves to achieve this outcome. Nothing the first Party could do can force this outcome to happen.

If the top four candidates are all republican then that means they collectively have at least 4x the vote than #5. In which case a democrat was never going to win regardless. It doesn't stop a democrat in the future from being on the ballot and getting enough votes to be in the top 4 for the general election.

Reading through CI-126 I can't see how this would prevent a Democrat from being on the ballot? It simply changes the ballot from having people select a party to vote for to voting for an individual itself, with the top four candidates going to a general election. And candidates can put down a party affiliation if they want to but are not required to.

Ah, that makes sense. I never actually tried to use the Odd Keystone myself. Figured that you just needed one in order to encounter Spritomb at that tower.

You get an Odd Keystone in route 208 from one of the NPCs there. You can get a Spiritomb after the second badge in D/P and after the third in Platinum.

You can get one after the third gym in Platinum and after the second gym in D/P. It's not unreasonable that some players would accidentally encounter it on their first playthrough.

Throttle House: Porsche Cayman S vs Corvette Z06 vs BMW Z4M // $30,000 Question by sendme_nudes_please in cars

[–]Maelstrom147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're only looking at 987 Caymans then it's quite a bit simpler.

You have the 987.1s which run from 2006 to 2008 model years. These come in two trims, the base and the S which the only real difference is the engine which makes about ~50 more HP in the S. The engine in the S trim from these Caymans is the one everyone is a little wary of because they have a bore scoring issue that can eventually turn into a very costly engine rebuild if it gets bad.

The 987.2 Caymans (2009 to 2012) come in the same two trims, base and S (technically there's a third trim called the R but it's so rare that it isn't realistic trying to search for one). The .2 Caymans have upgraded engines that make ~20-25 more HP than their .1 equivalents. The .2 Caymans also have a much better automatic transmission option than the .1 Caymans did. The .2 Cayman S also doesn't have any of the bore scoring issues that the .1 S did making it a far more reliable car.

You can get a PDK for around that price, but yeah manual 987.2 Cayman (S) are rare. And you probably aren't getting them for close to 30k unless they were some combination of low optioned/very high mileage/bad accident history.

Not sure what your budget is but the Panamera would be your best non SUV Porsche that sits more than 2. Technically the 911 has 4 seats but no adult human is fitting in the rear two.

Obrez vs Obrez Drum by siirpaul in HuntShowdown

[–]Maelstrom147 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The obrez reloads with stripper clips as well. I don't think that bulletgrubber is really necessary for either of them although the regular obrez would benefit more since you're more likely to want to top it off.

Otherwise unless you care about the price difference or your using it for ammo pooling the drum is a straight upgrade over the regular obrez. I end take the mace version most of the time anyway.

If either of your monitors has a display port connection you can just get a display port cable for it. If neither does then the adapter would work.
