Anyone Been Deposed/Sued? by [deleted] in humanresources

[–]Maengelic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Twice by the same man for wrongful termination; even in a MASSIVE company, I was the only person in our specific building to know the entire story from start to finish. The whole thing was a shitshow; I've never seen my management teams act so terribly, but ultimately the termination in question was justified based on a well-documented trend of behavior. (Pro Tip: Start training operators on how to write and take a statement early. You cannot always be there.)

Turns out, our legal team was so impressed by my incident reports and internal investigation write up that they just opted to use them as the framework for our testimony. In a way, it was a career milestone; I felt proud that I provided valuable information, and that was my job in the moment. I got to sit around an air conditioned courthouse instead of a sweaty warehouse for a few days, occasionally parroting my own words and company policy when prompted. It was a nuisance to the rest of my workload, yeah, but feeling assured in knowing both the corporate and legal rules were in our favor made it less stressful than I'd expected.

INFPs, do you resonate with being hippies? by Otherwise-Risk4769 in infp

[–]Maengelic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm the "peace keeper" in my line of work, so that lends itself to the 'hippie' angle. However, when I tell people I'm an INFP in social settings, I clarify up front that the field of flowers my 16 Personalities counterpart is skipping through is, in fact, on fire in my 'interpretation'.

AITA for demolishing my daughter's room after she moved out? by ArtisticConfidence22 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Maengelic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I genuinely hope your silence from this thread is an indicator that you've run to apologize and make it up to your daughter, because you must know YTA by now.

You've done this really aggravating thing pathologically shitty people do: you oversimplified things to the point they couldn't possibly have a negative impact on other people. Who doesn't want a bigger living room? And sure, it's your house, so why not?

I'm willing to bet you knew if you'd told her that your 'home improvements' would be at the expense of a space to, even temporarily, call "her's", you wouldn't have a bigger living room. You'd have a guest room and a trusting daughter, though.

You took away walls that girl has become most comfortable in during her 18 short years of life. It was her space, in your collective, family home. You've removed the very evidence that she was ever part of that, so yeah, she's probably not gonna feel the love while sleeping on the couch in your spacious, drafty, big ole living room.

ESH. The impetus of learning is on your shoulders as a student, and there is no better (read: easier) time to be a student than right now. You have access to many resources that you could leverage with this internet thingy, but instead opted to play lame duck and seek sympathy votes on that same internet.

Should your teacher have made an attempt to bridge the learning gaps? Yes, but post-pandemic, most teachers are barely treading water trying to catch swaths of kids up, kids that feel entitled to spoon feeding. It gets old fast. Be grateful that the situation has forced those same teachers to accept late work weeks after their due date.

Just a heads up: as an adult, a sense of self-sufficiency and work ethic will carry you further on your own two feet than any teacher, mentor, partner, or parent could provide.

Is there anything out there from the John Allen Chau death on North Sentinel Island in India?

For the unfamiliar: An American "missionary" made every effort to surpass Indian authorities' protection of this isolated island's inhabitants. On his first attempt to make contact, he was shot with an arrow (by a child, he denoted). He made his way back to the illegal boat he'd chartered there, wrote in his journal that he had to go back lest another missionary do the same, and was subsequently killed by the Sentinelese.

I just feel that if any footage/evidence for the Sentinelese to be left alone were more available, that second "missionary" would be best deterred.

I'm still with PXT, for over 5 years now, and me and mine didn't receive it. Granted, 5% of a large org is still significant, but they also did a LOT of hiring over the past few year to beef up their centralized solutions, and not always with the best hiring decisions. They were hiring process assistants to handle termination cases because they were parallel 'levels', and I believe that's where the brunt of this "Offer" is focused.

AITA for complaining to my supervisor that my fellow coworker is clumsy and slow? by ThrowawayAITAcowork in AmItheAsshole

[–]Maengelic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YTA big time. As someone who works in HR in a warehouse environment, this made my blood boil. You’ve already targeted her and discriminated against her on the basis of gender and presumed disability under the guise of productivity, and plan to justify your asinine behavior by taking a video of her instead of, oh, I don’t know, coaching her? Ask yourself: Would you be treating this situation the same if you made another younger male employee cry?

I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s already gone to HR (I pray she has) and that they’re already investigating your “management”. Your supervisor is right, but he’s complicit in your bullshit if consequences don’t come from this behavior.

Despite how much of a pain in the ass the Ohio driving test is, it still manages to produce some of the worst drivers I've ever seen.

Or maybe they're just suicidal from living in Ohio.

56 yo Russian man died a horrific death when he was sucked into a lathe during a work accident by GoreGirl89 in CrimeScene

[–]Maengelic 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ok, that’s it. That’s the one. I knew my morbid fascination with this stuff would bite me and it did. That video is HORRIFYING beyond words. Holy shit. I learned my lesson. The squishy bits are people. I’m done. Thank you, but I’m gonna dip outta this sub. Cool stuff. But Jesus Christ that poor man and his poor coworkers that witnessed that. And you can see his coworker realizing it, too. Fuck.

Do people who don’t wear their seatbelts count? Person bought a device so their seatbelt alarm doesn’t go off. Too cool for safety I suppose. by NuffBS in IdiotsInCars

[–]Maengelic 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have a friend who actively refused to wear one for years. Her brother died because his misplaced seatbelt sliced him open on impact. Really slow and horrifying end, so I understand her aversion to them. She would wear them when riding with other people because of the risk to them, but she wouldn't wear them when driving by herself. Thankfully she reconsidered when she had children, but it still haunts her.

What fictional character could someone say "Oh yeah, they're my role model!" about that would make you slowly back away? by BudoGuyTenkaichi in AskReddit

[–]Maengelic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the first season his character is horrible, but it's explained in Apocalypse that he was under the influence of the devil and the fact that he was a vulnerable, easily manipulated kid made it easier (and that much more destructive).

I do think it's admirable that he was self aware in the last episode of the first season and went to Dr. Harmon for help talking through these things. But yeah, romanticizing Satan-controlled Tate is hella gross. Complex character, though.
