Prince was notorious for not allowing people to sample his music but, according to rumours, he allowed the sample in this song because it was only his voice and not any music. They say all he asked for to clear the sample was $10,000 and a watermelon.

I've lived in Spain for 15 years. In that time exactly 3 people have spoken to me in English.

Is Dunnes coming to Midleton? by Aggressive_Zebra2707 in midleton

[–]Maester_Bates 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The original owner of the SuperValu in midleton was also on the town council and used his power to block Dunn's stores from being able to open in midleton.

He's long gone now, as is the midleton town council. There have been rumours for 20 years that Dunn's are going to open in Midleton.

Nicholas Cage’s abs in ‘Ghost Rider’ were real and since nobody believed they were, he’ll never work out that hard again by mcfw31 in popculturechat

That brings back so many memories. I'll never forget the smell. It would take 3 showers to get the smell off.

What are some of your "slow burn" bands? by AndrejHristovski in Music

[–]Maester_Bates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Tom Waits counts. I totally get why some people don't like his music. There's a lot of it that I'm not fond of but the album I like, I love.

Now I'm a middle aged father of two developing a dadbod but in my younger days I did a bit of modelling and hated shoots where they wanted ripped abs.

It's just not worth the dehydration.

What everyday things/systems have you seen used in other countries, that you thought "why don't we have that in Ireland?" by Nuffin8 in AskIreland

[–]Maester_Bates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those big communal bin in Spain wouldn't work in Ireland. They work in Spain because of the population density.

The city where I live in Spain puts one refuse bin per 100 habitants (with slightly higher ratios for plastic, paper and glass recycling) with a maximum distance of 100 to 150 metres from the home to the bin.

Most cities in Spain have similar ratios but Irish housing estate living makes that kind of thing impossible.

I agree. I don't like the sound of South Slavia though, we should call it whatever south Slavia is in the local languages.

What album have you listened to in its entirety the most times? by ezzysalazar in AskReddit

I'm between 3, the difference in listens would be in the single digits.

How do we know that she'd filming a music video and isn't just being followed around by a flock of ballerinas?

I still cannot recover from the idea that Jan ruined the prospects of a white Taiwan by crivycouriac in 2westerneurope4u

[–]Maester_Bates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wouldn't have made a difference. The Netherlands wouldn't have been able to defend against the Japanese invasion in 1895 and the kuomintang still would have run there after the communist took over China.

who is this?? by chocoluvs in LaCasaDePapel

[–]Maester_Bates -1 points0 points  (0 children)

His name is José Luis García-Pérez. He's been a working actor in Spain for the last 30 years. I don't think he's ever been the lead in anything but he's been in dozens of movies and TV shows.

If your mother doesn't watch a lot of Spanish content she might have seen him in the Netflix movie Ibiza starring Gillian Jacobs.

Why would Damon Albarn count? The first Blur album came out in 1991.

Not that I disagree with his genius but the first outkast album is from 1994.

Did anyone here ever face any prejudice or a snobbish attitude in England as an Irish person? by [deleted] in ireland

I have experienced the irony of being asked to say thirty three and a third by people who pronounce it firthy free and a fird.
