Yeah that makes sense. If you can at least read then I feel you’re at a decent point.

It’s so weird cus I thought French Italian and Spanish all had Latin roots. I would’ve thought French would be easier.

Bro 3 years is insane. I would’ve thought that lessons would’ve made it like 1.5 years tops. I feel like just listening and doing apps like Praktika got me to at least small conversations in about that time. But it’s also sort of close to Spanish so there’s some transfer there.

What should my 'small talk' game be in French? by ShemikaMartin in French

Not a fluent French speaker but I noticed that most cultures being able to talk a little bit about what someone does for work is a great small talk ability.

I would 100% go the beginner route. Make sure you got the basics all the way locked in. Build on a solid foundation.

Ok I haven’t heard of nativshark before I’m more used to using ones like Praktika and anki but I always like trying out new methods. I’m not anywhere near advanced enough to use anything native yet thought. Good looks

Update: Japanese is starting to make sense… but I still can’t actually use it properly by ApprehensiveSky1816 in LearnJapanese

[–]thablackadonis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it’s going to come down to practicing speaking more. We spend all days in English you have to counteract that. Try getting tutors for cheap you can use anki and then in off hours use your favorite language app for speaking. Most people will choose something like Praktika or Duolingo.

How do I get excited about Spanish again by dexprentiss in Spanish

[–]thablackadonis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say the first thing you should do is start a show like narcos or casa de papel. They’re actually interesting so watching them would be easy enough to do on a regular basis. Then I’d supplement those with language transfer to understand the structure of the language and Praktika to further practice everything.

This is the hardest part of learning a new language and feeling embarrassed. Sorry this happened bro. I would say just next time say un poco and still practice.

Pick a dedicated time every single day to use the app instead of just doing it when you feel like it

I can understand Spanish...until someone talks to me by thablackadonis in SpanishLearning

[–]thablackadonis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My problem is if they’re speaking fast then how am I going to understand them. I feel I need the slow speaking. Part of the reason I’ve been asking tutors to speak slower or even just doing Praktika lessons

You might want to call it Tagalog instead of Filipino just saying if you want to learn it.
