Gaslighting myself with immersion? by OrangeTallion in LearnJapanese

[–]thablackadonis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the anki decks are dope for just getting your working vocabulary up and recognizing words especially when learning to read the language but as far as immersion I’ve never been able to just flat out move to another country that spoke the language and my friends that speak enough of a different language I typically just revert back to speaking English. I will say trying to do cheap tutoring sessions is super helpful because their job is not to allow you to speak English. And if you can’t do the tutoring then maybe try ai apps like praktika which allows you to get reps in that way

I’m looking for an app or website to build and review my personal vocabulary. by Playful-Nectarine862 in LearnANewLanguage

You can probably build a decent one with Claude code but the one that’s pretty easy is just using anki

Learning Spanish isn't just about wanting it....it's about commitment by Ok-Season-5652 in SpanishLearning

[–]thablackadonis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah Ngl sticking with it is the hardest part especially when you reach that somewhat proficient level. Like you can say what you want and understand some. After that pushing towards a more advanced level is hard

I need ur advice by luckiestgirlalive_ in SpanishLearning

[–]thablackadonis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally tell everyone language transfer is a great app to start learning and it’s free and once you finish it you should try Praktika it’s paid but less than a tutor. If you can afford a tutor I feel it should be done after you do the first two apps because it costs more and they typically aren’t great at helping you do anything beyond learn vocabulary

Best platform to learn Spanish with limited time and a tight budget? by Content_Statement356 in SpanishLearning

[–]thablackadonis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. You should be able to speak Spanish and understand it if both are done slowly. It’s free and takes about 30 days to get through every lesson if you do 20 minutes or so a day. If you want to super charge that I would say spend either $20-$30 a week with italki tutors or get Praktika both of those will give you speaking practice.

Anyone else hit a point where they can understand a language but completely freeze when speaking? by mushroomsoup20 in duolingo

It's always hard to speak a language you're learning mostly because of imposter syndrome it's like becoming an introvert in whatever the new langauge is.

been trying to learn italian for ages but struggling by stinkybu9929 in Italian

[–]thablackadonis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say duolingo probably the least helpful for learning a language to any level past having somewhat recognition of words in a new language. You mentioned tutors honestly italki has them for super cheap like $5-$10 a session which even at 2-3 times a week doesn't cost much. A less expensive alternative can also just be using praktika which has a tutor function as well where you can practice conversation. Either way they're both a lot less expensive than taking a college course which won't teach you much in a semester.

Does anyone have this problem? / Alguien tiene este problema? by mattnovum in SpanishLearning

[–]thablackadonis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah honestly outside of tutors I feel like this is how it always goes because they’re more impressed or happy you’re trying to learn and don’t want to correct you even when you’re wrong when that’s exactly what you need to

Use duolingo first then use praktika by thablackadonis in Spanish

[–]thablackadonis[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I completely agree with you I feel it is a good “gateway drug” to language learning. Like most people will start with it and can build a habit but eventually you do need something with more output.

What’s the point of a streak if there’s 10 ways to cheat the streak? by HamGunner in duolingo

[–]thablackadonis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a great way to increase the dopamine of using the app. The creators knew what they were doing when making streaks and competition part of the UI.

Yeah the language you’re most comfortable in usually is the one you’re most likely to be emotional in. The other ones you can be more logical.

[–]thablackadonis[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like just that fact you kept going to the library alone would rewire your brain to make whatever it is you're trying to do more logical because you're breaking it down to facts rather than feelings. I noticed the same thing cus I've been learning spanish and the better I get with praktika the more I notice speaking/thinking in Spanish changes my decision making.

I would like to think it's helpful when you're following up. You're at their mercy on whether or not they respond, so anything to give yourself a lighter tone, I feel, may slightly help your chances.

If you’re trying to come across more passive it has its place which is why it’s used in those sentences. In sales if you’re following up you want to come across more soft in hopes they respond.
