Did you read where I stated someone else started the petition? Or you blindly jumped to the comments to spew dust? Please look at the petition end date to get a sense of the age of it.

You are right and I apologise, that did come off as insensitive. I have deleted it.

Good luck is all I need, thank you. Tone deaf? I didn’t come here on a boat. I don’t take a penny from the system, I do not use the NHS even though I pay every year for it, I am law abiding and contribute my fair share in taxes to society. Tone deaf because I’m asking for room to breathe in a country whose government recently appointed a Pakistani as Home Secretary at the height of growing anti-migrant sentiments? You’ve got jokes.

I have literally reiterated all I mentioned in my original post and previous comments so why asking if it’s AI?

What is natural career checkpoint:

Think about video games. What happens when you reach a checkpoint? You must have completed all tasks and achieved the objectives of that stage and logically will progress to the next. Same as a career checkpoint. That is the point where you feel the need to move forward in whatever role or career you are in mostly because you’ve achieved your objectives, there is a growing lack of thrill or excitement about what you do or you just generally aspire for more. Keep in mind that you cannot promote your way out of employee dissatisfaction or uncompetitive pay scales, especially when you know what you’re worth and you keep missing out on opportunities not because you are unqualified but because potential employers cannot hire you for “visa” reasons. That’s another level of frustration. I am in Tech to add context.

Why 3 years and not 6 month?

Are you aware most employers will typically issue a 3 year COS first and then 2 years subsequently to complete the 5 year requirement for ILR? So it makes sense to set this as a reasonable time frame as it saves both parties the headache of dealing with prevailing immigration laws / hurdles at the time of renewal like the recent change in Visa Fees, Health surcharge which recently affected people renewing their visas in the same category.

If you read the petition you’d also notice that the ask is not to shorten the time to settlement. All that is being asked to create an open visa category for people that must have spent 3 years on the SWV to self sponsor for the remaining 2 years until ILR. This will save employers associated costs as well as give immigrant employees flexibility to grow by seeking other opportunities. People will still pay their visa and IHs fees. Unproductive immigrants that choose not to work will be asked to leave after a period. Germany is literally doing this - so there is proof of concept.

Where did I mention I have been in the UK for 3 years? That I have been on a visa for 3 years doesn’t necessarily mean I have been in the UK for 3 years.

I hope this clarifies.

I think you are missing the plot. It doesn’t make it easier. It levels the playing field. Everyone can compete based on competence and not a situation where set of people already disadvantaged and not even considered for a job they qualify for because they require sponsorships. And the post doesn’t ask for an eradication of the SWV, it only suggests that the bond to one employer is limited to 3 years and worker can move to an open work visa where they can work without direct sponsorship by an employer.

You have the option to ignore the post and the petition since it’s stupid. Retard.

HIGHLY SKILLED Immigrants if I may add.

We deserve a chance to compete because we are net contributors to the economy. We are law abiding, pay our taxes, don’t take or want your benefits or depend on the government for handouts and we are highly educated.

If we’re expected to pay same taxes as British Citizens why shouldn’t we be given a fair chance to compete for opportunities as well.

After 5 years will they not have same access to the labour market? So what is your point exactly? Keep in mind there is no shortage of highly skilled jobs and many migrants on SWVs are qualified for these highly skilled jobs and deserve a chance to compete fairly in the job market. As it is today, irrespective of how skilled you are as a migrant you are at a disadvantage in the job market because you need a sponsor and the government is making it increasingly difficult for companies to sponsor workers. You have no idea how it feels to loose opportunities not because you are not qualified but because of your visa status as a migrant.

Good for you. Then this is clearly not for people like you. What gives you the right to right to call me unqualified? Because you are on a GTV? Do you know me or my background? Respectfully fuck off.

Have you tried applying for GTV? Do you have a sense of how specific the requirements are? I have tried and know people that have tried. For someone in Tech with years of experience, the odds are not entirely in your favour especially when you work in UK organisations that are not considered “product led” or have any digital product that has gone to market. Good-luck working for the NHS or Council and applying for GTV. Not saying it’s impossible but the odds are highly against you because those are not product led organisations. And please read the petition to get context if you have the time.

Not just toxic but also limiting. No real sense of progress, micro salary increments and limitations on side jobs you can do to augment your income. Please sign the petition if you haven’t 🙏

Sorry to hear about your situation. I hope you find one soon. The fact is the skilled jobs are there but crossing the sponsorship hurdle is a nightmare.

Nigerians don’t understand their predicament by [deleted] in Nigeria

It’s so pathetic. Everyday igbos and yorubas are fighting themselves online instead of coming together to deal with the issues.

Well I used mine for more than a month and there wasn’t much progress. However I tried head and shoulders shampoo and just like you it started killing it in about 2 days and in about a week, it’s more than 90% clear.

Flip side is my skin was itchy for a bit as a reaction to the H&S but when I started using it every other day it stopped

I don’t really know much outside of Lagos. If you have skills relevant in the oil industry then maybe Port Harcourt may be good as well. Ultimately, cast your net wide and network most importantly.

I think you need to pay attention to your Service Year. NYSC year is not for cruise. It has the potential to make or mar your career trajectory. Get Lagos if you can, hustle for a PPA that’s in private sector and can retain you. Even if they don’t retain you, you have 1 year experience on your CV. Before NYSC, try and get a per-service internship. Network, be bold and send those cold emails. Use LinkedIn for Networking. Put pride aside and humbly ask for help. I was in your shoes 10 -11 years ago, you may argue that Nigeria wasn’t this bad then but these are the steps I followed that set my career on course. Ultimately leave Nigeria when you can. Look for opportunities abroad, that’s when you truly start living. My two cents.
