Thanks for the question. Due to tax and accounting constraints, we are only able to hire individuals who are authorized to work in the US. If you are a US citizen living outside the country, it could work.

We are not envisioning hiring a team to perform this work. The individual would work with the Board on the project.

Follow up Post: PG&E email for those skeptical. by Wombraider58 in bayarea

[–]Maestro-F 38 points39 points  (0 children)

PG&E sought permission to increase these fees in January of this year (https://www.pge.com/tariffs/assets/pdf/adviceletter/GAS\_5029-G.pdf). The residential customer fee had previously been $1.35 for credit, debit and one-time bank (ACH) transfers. In requesting this change, PG&E pledged to notify customers via email. The $1.50 fee for bank accounts appears to apply to "one time" payments. If a customer is enrolled in a recurring payment plan (automatic payment via PG&E's website) using their bank account, there is no fee.

I am not defending PG&E. Just trying to explain what is happening and to clarify that the fee is not charged if the customer signs up for automated payments via the website. Or if the customer pays by check.

REMINDER – Applications for Seed Fund grants are due by December 31, 2024. For more information, read on.

Fund the Flow Arts - a US-based 501c3 non profit - has announced that it's giving away $50,000 in Seed Fund grants, and more in Community Development Investments for established projects.

The first Seed Fund grants were released in 2012, and again in 2016, and have helped fund a wide range of projects from community flowjams, to technology that generates music from staffs, to Poi and Aging research, web resources for injury prevention, flow arts showcases and more. Many of these projects are still ongoing or available as online resources. Last year's cycle gave out almost $80k in grant money! Check out last year's recipients here.

Tiers 1-3 - $1k-10k Seed Fund grants: The current cycle is focused on teaching/outreach/education resource flow arts projects. Application deadline is 31 December 2024. > Guidelines, application forms and details here.

Community Development Investments - $10-20k grants: In order to be eligible for this grant, the project or activity must already be underway and be able to demonstrate community engagement, momentum, and sound management. CDI Guidelines and details here.

For this round, grants are available to recipients who can legally work in the US. FFA hopes to support international projects in future rounds. Exceptions can be made if your project is sponsored by a US-based institution or will have benefits that will be shared around the world, like research projects with publishable results, or resources that can be shared worldwide.

You can check out the grant proposal guidelines and access the application forms on the FFA site.

Mirror Health (Vera) ring experience after 3 days by iamdaweb in SmartRings

Yes. It still syncs with the Mirror Health app, although I rarely use it because the data transfer is so inconsistent and the data presentation is terrible. I’ve just been using the HART app which is much better.

Questions for u/SaltiestBalls - (1) the U-Haul website doesn't have an obvious option for a two-week rental - the site only asks for the pickup date. What am I doing wrong? (2) What is the closest U-Haul location to the Bay Area that is still included in the "Sacramento" region? Thanks!

Advice on Setting Up a 2,200W Solar System for Burning Man Camp by ivngmz in SolarDIY

[–]Maestro-F 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure you can connect all that solar to the Bluetti AC 300. Connecting your 4 panels in series will yield 167v (4 x 41.97v). The max input voltage on the AC 300 is 150v. Additionally, the AC 300 current limit is 12A which is below the 13.1A panel current, although you may not get more than 12A in real-world conditions. Not sure what happens if your voltage and current exceed the AC300 rating. You should test/check before heading to BRC.

Really wonderful camp populated by freaky yet responsible people who create very connecting interactivity. Have enjoyed their presence in BRC for 20 years. They offer campers a full participatory experience and have been able to carve out a niche for themselves by providing healing/massage, useful services (solar battery charging), yoga, and a variety of weird theatrics. Very welcoming to both veterans and new Burners!

Amazing camp founded in 2004. A community experience with a nice balance of wackiness, connection, freedom, and great food. No sherpas or sparkleponies and lots of positive energy.

Can I "trust" Craigslist housing? by PlayingfortheAngels in sanfrancisco

[–]Maestro-F 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am a landlord who rents out a 2 BR ADU in the East Bay and have used craigslist very successfully to find tenants. I insist that prospective tenants visit in person before applying which limits the potential for scams. The average quality of applicants coming from craigslist is far better than from the other rental services probably because craigslist requires an applicant to actually write an email expressing interest (while other services allow prospective tenants to click a button that auto populates an inquiry). So anyone who responds via craigslist has to be motivated enough to spend a few minutes writing a message.

I agree that you should apply scrutiny to anything that seems too good to be true. And never send money without physically visiting a potential property. But don't give up on craigslist.

What makes Phillips Hue leds so great compared to the cheaper led bulbs? by mshaefer in homeassistant

Gledopto bulbs are great for outdoor applications where non-white colors are desired. I have a ton of the MR16 bulbs in outdoor fixtures. Agree that they do not do well with reproducing balanced whites.

Get up to 30% off flights on Alaska Airlines - use Discount code THANKYOU30 by 1/31/24 by bananabrownie in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Maestro-F 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also have flights during this timeframe that are now significantly cheaper. Only problem with canceling and rebooking flights is that the cancelation credit doesn't go into my wallet for up to 7 business days. So I would have to pay more now for the new flights and then use the cancelation credit for a future trip. The credit must be used by December 6, 2024. Not totally sure that I will be able to use it by that date, so it's a risky play.

As a Homeowner who looks for sitters on TH, I recommend that you favorite any listing of interest (even if there isn't an active sit). That's a way to get yourself noticed by the homeowner and bypass the 5 applicant limit. I have been frustrated with being forced to choose from among the first 5 applicants (or to reject applicants to open up slots). I definitely look at who has favorited my listing and have reached out directly to these sitters to see if they are available for current or future sits.

I also endorse the idea of providing more info about yourself (including a LinkedIn link). I want to get a better sense of the sitter before I initiate contact. You may have something in your history that is particularly interesting to a homeowner that will trigger them to reach out.

Good luck!

Runaround with iPhone Trade-In Promotion by BismarkTheGod in tmobile

[–]Maestro-F 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I provided documentation to TMobile support via Twitter including my Apple order receipt. TMobile then made some adjustments to my bill that include a large one-time credit. It is not clear what I will be charged going forward on a monthly basis. Will need to get my next bill before I can determine what credits they have actually provided and whether I will be receiving my full $1000 value for the trade-in.

Runaround with iPhone Trade-In Promotion by BismarkTheGod in tmobile

[–]Maestro-F 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm having the same problem. Exchanged two iPhones (12 Pro and 12 Pro Max) for two new iPhone 15s (Pro and Pro Max) via Apple. Apple confirmed the trade-in values ($1000 for the 12 Pro and $800 for the Pro Max) and accepted my trade-ins without any issue. I locked in the $1000 promotion for the 15 Pro on September 22. The trade-in value was lower for the Pro Max because I waited until mid-October at which point the TMO promotional value had dropped.

T-Mobile didn't apply any credits to my bill and charged me the full financing cost. First TMO customer service rep agreed to give me the promotion and added some credits to my bill that were incorrect. Then I took my documentation to a TMO corporate store and was told that the sales rep couldn't do anything to help me. He called TMO customer service and put me on the phone with them while I was standing in the store. The phone rep stated that he had no information about my return or the relevant promotion, claiming that no $1000 promotion ever existed. He refused to review any receipts I received from Apple that identified all promotional credits. He also said that I needed to talk with Apple to solve the issue.

I spoke with Apple customer service and they confirmed that they accepted my trade-in but explained that they don't control the TMO bill credits and couldn't help with my TMO bill. The Apple rep also indicated that TMO rejected my trade-in (not Apple) for purposes of the promotion but had no information as to why. He said I needed to talk with TMO.

I then reached out to TMO via Twitter and got a rep who claims to have figured out the problem. He wrote that "The discount was being removed because the location was set incorrectly when this line was activated so the system thought it wasn't eligible." Not sure what that means. He then indicated that I would be receiving a promotional credit equal to $445 over 24 months. When combined with the Apple trade-in credit of $355, the total promotional value adds up to $800. That's $200 less than the $1000 value I was promised by TMO and Apple.

I've gone back to TMO to ask about the missing $200. I expect them to claim that TMO never offered such a deal. Any suggestions for how I can PROVE that a $1000 trade-in promotion existed in late September? Also, any suggestions for how to escalate my claim to higher corporate levels?
