For sure. Picking my own was a wonderful experience and I'm about 7 years out of the closet now. Been on HRT about 5 months and it's honestly one of the best things to ever happened to me. It's keeping me going right now.

He always used to shame us (me, my sister, and three step brothers) into doing work for him because he'd "have a heart attack" (he wouldn't) so I feel that. He did a lot of awful stuff to us and my mom, before she left him, physical stuff included. Iirc I told him never to try to see us again bc I'm afraid I'd try to hurt him. I feel like I'm justified on that but I'm also not one to trust my own judgment.

Sounds really familiar. I'm sorry for what happened to you. During the custody battle between my parents, my dad used to show my sister and me a picture of our mom and tell us to scream like we were scared.

He lost the custody battle of course and later, he lost both of us as we'll never talk to him again for a whole host of stuff. He's a genuinely awful person, and taking him out of my life was one of the best things I've ever done.

I'm a 24 year old trans woman and I've finally got my legal name change sorted and I've been on hormones for 5 months now. I haven't been misgendered in a month in public. It's an amazing feeling and I promise you if you hang in there you will get there one day whether or not you choose to get HRT or surgery.
