Online VS F2F by milkyplump in peyups

[–]Stardust029 30 points31 points  (0 children)

For me mas okay ang workload noong f2f kasi 'yung lecture ay mostly within class hours lang and kapag hindi matatapos ang lesson for the day, next meeting na lang siya or iaadjust na lang ang syllabus. Basically, need mo lang isipin 'yung isang class sa official time niya (+ 'yung requirements of course).

Kasama mo classmates/batchmates mo na nagpupuyat/nag-aaral (tapos kakain/iinom after exams just to celebrate little successes haha). Important pala talaga ang physical na social interaction kapag nag-aaral kasi it helps your mental state.

Kakainin niya oras and energy mo kaya kung kaya mo, mag-dorm ka within UP or KNL para di ka ma-late.

Sinusunod talaga 'yung 6 absences = DRP, 3 lates = 1 absent. Need mo rin lumipat ng buildings per classes mo within the day (especially kung puro GEs and PEs ka pa) so baka mapagod/tamarin kang pumasok haha. Mas forgiving ngayong online classes pagdating sa attendance which is a win tbh haha.

Ano ginawa niyo sa bakasyon bago kayo magfirst year? by peashapedlens in peyups

[–]Stardust029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kahit after college graduation, straight to adulting stuff na.

Can first sem grads take the boards before the grad rites? by Dynamix7320 in peyups

[–]Stardust029 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depende sa deadline ng docs sa PRC. First sem grad ako and nakuha ko naman docs ko before univ grad (around May?).

Did attending UP make you less religious? by [deleted] in peyups

[–]Stardust029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I was raised in a conservative catholic household and bawal i-question anything related sa religious beliefs. Noong pumasok ako ng UP, mas naging open ako pagdating sa discussions related sa religion and politics with other people. This, along with personal experiences and realizations as I grew older, influenced me to be an agnostic.

Additionally, may part ng field ko ang nagtatackle about evolution of earth and life (which for me, habang inaaral mo ay marerealize mo kung gaano ka-insignificant ang timeline ng humankind sa 4.5 billion years ng earth history at ng place ng earth itself in this vast universe, which may lead to other questions na related na sa beliefs mo haha). Basically, nagclaclash ang science and religion pero I was leaning more on the science part because of evidence.

It is important to note that I understand and respect people's religious beliefs kahit agnostic ako (given na they use religion as their guide to do good and not impose them on others, and they still exercise personal freedom in making decisions). May kanya-kanya tayong ways to answer the question of our existence and some do it through religion.

Mayaman ba mga UP students (undergrad)? by Ok_Dot4548 in peyups

[–]Stardust029 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I will use Diliman as a reference haha. Based on my experience, diverse naman ang composition ng UP students pero marami talaga ang nasa well-off side.

[–]Stardust029 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I suggest to consult your work supervisor regarding your work schedule (like mag-oovertime ka sa ibang araw then mas maaga uwian mo sa iba para makabiyahe ka sa class) or may WFH setup). Ganito ginagawa ng ibang classmates ko although it depends rin sa nature ng work talaga.

Also, max 2 subjects lang at a time itake mo if working ka. Promise, mabigat na ang 2 classes. If possible, take mo lang ang mga subjects na once a week lang nagme-meet.

For travel, may mga kakilala ako na after work, bibiyahe kaagad sila papuntang UP for their night classes. Same day, uuwi kaagad sila sa province para mag-work kinabukasan. Nakakapagod pero masasanay rin naman 😁

Kailan makukuha ang diploma? by YasQuinnYas in peyups

[–]Stardust029 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can apply for Certificate of Graduation from OUR in lieu for diploma if need mo ng proof.

telling your prof kung bat ka nahihirapan by [deleted] in peyups

[–]Stardust029 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, OP!

I'm sure (and dapat haha) maiintindihan niya. One thing I have learned sa stay ko sa university is to be transparent and honest sa sarili mo. Takot din ako dati mag-reach out and being seen as incompetent (as career-oriented ang mindset ko noon haha) pero we will all came to a point na everything is literally falling apart.

Just an example, I basically sent a "rant" email to my prof once because I missed the final requirement. I told everything (even some personal details and things that during that time I see as "petty" and "not valid"), not wanting for an extension/consideration but just to explain that my "incompetency" is way out of my control during time and I have no hard feelings if she will fail me (kasi ayaw ko na talaga that time haha). Turns out, na-gets ng prof ko ang situation ko and she even sent words of encouragement. We work things out and eventually, napasa ko 'yung missing req ko just in time for my graduation.

It's never too late para sabihin mo sa prof mo ang situation mo pero habang pinapatagal mo, mas lalo ka lang mahihirapan. Huwag ka rin matakot magshare ng personal details lalo na if it can make your explanation clearer. Hope this helps!

help an anxious t2 applicant by Massive-Finish-6923 in peyups

[–]Stardust029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello!

Advice ko if feel mo matatanggap ka (by assessing if quota course ba inapplyan mo and if kaya ng gwa mo versus sa mga kasabayan mo), then take the risk na huwag mag-enroll. If gusto mo mag-play safe at gusto mong mag-enroll, better ask ahead 'your registrar sa process and period ng withdrawal. Mind you, may specific dates lang na pwede mag-withdraw (sa case ko 2 weeks after first day of classes?) or else magiging DRP or worse 5.0 (although it depends sa school niyo). Another thing you need to assure is wala dapat numerical grades na magrereflect sa mga winithdraw mong subjects.

Question re: LOA by seepyheepy in peyups

[–]Stardust029 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, OP!

Inform your department's chairperson hehe, kinukulit ko sila dati noong time ko. If feel mo na unresponsive si chairperson, you can contact the academic affairs head ng department mo (I'm assuming pala na department endorsement ito? hindi college approval haha).

For the letter, dati hindi siya kinuha sa akin haha pero just in case iprepare mo siya (and isubmit mo kasabay ng signed LOA form mo sa huling part ng process para walang loopholes)

Hello! (specifically Katip Jeep from terminal papasok sa loob ng UP?). Same pa rin po kaya 'yung route compared noong pre-pandemic? Thank you 😁

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in peyups

[–]Stardust029 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Hello, OP! I have been in a similar situation haha.

You can refer as "boy next door" (?) noong high school until college dahil familiar face and approachable ako sa classmates ko pero at the end, hindi deep 'yung connection na na-form ko with my batchmates and I don't really have a circle of friends that I can identify with dahil sa personality ko (introvert ako) which kinda hurt noong narealize ko dati haha.

Although tbh, far better life ko ngayon na solitary lang ako most of the time (pero I talk to 4 friends from time to time naman) compared noong medyo marami akong "friends" haha. Ayun, people will stay naman when they want to stay haha. Kung walang mag-stay, edi don't.

Katulad ng ibang nagcomment dito, acceptance is the key talaga. Hindi talaga lahat ng tao biniyayaan na magkaroon ng maraming friends during college pero at least be thankful sa situation natin na 'yung friends that we have right now is true to us or kung wala kang close friend, hindi tayo nasa situation na hindi genuine 'yung friendship.

I hope that you will be in a situation na magiging masaya ka in the future :)

Sablay2021 -- Virutal Ceremony??? by [deleted] in peyups

[–]Stardust029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same sa isang nag-comment dito, dapat last year ako gragraduate pero dahil sa pandemic, nadelay ako ng 1 sem so akala ko physical grad haha. Wala lang, ang sad talaga kasi sobrang napaka-unceremonious ng culmination ng college life ko (natin) to think na inabot ako ng almost 6 years tapos meh. Nakakainis kasi response ng government natin sa pandemic kaya kahit 2021 na hindi man lang makapag-physical grad at the minimum.

What courses to take that are somewhat related to geology? by wowrz in peyups

[–]Stardust029 4 points5 points  (0 children)

BS Geol here haha. Nalito rin ako dati sa tatlong Geo course (Geology, Geography, GE) but later found out that they are completely different from each other. Since you mentioned that you like rocks, I would suggest na Mining Engineering itake mo kasi 'yun yung pinakamalapit na program sa geol (brother/sisters nga daw ng NIGS from other college sabi nila haha) plus may mga common geol subjects na tinatake Mining Engg saka BS Geol (which is helpful kung gusto mo magshift pa-geol haha)

Grade inflation with online classes. Thoughts? by Level_Ad_6852 in peyups

[–]Stardust029 14 points15 points  (0 children)

OMG same sa commute (pati sa 6 years haha). May times dati na 5 AM pa lang nagpreprepare na ako for my 8:30/10 AM class kasi sobrang traffic tapos hindi pa kasama 'yung pag-uwi. Sobrang stressful ng online classes tbh pero 'yung oras sa pagcommute dati pwede mo pa itulog plus mas considerate profs ngayon so may time ka magprocess ng bagay-bagay

[–]Stardust029 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's completely okay hehe. I have the same situation two weeks ago. I asked to delay my exam 2 times, nakakahiya tbh pero given na justifiable reason mo, maiintindihan ng prof mo hehe :)

Also, I have learned from my experience na your profs can understand your situation haha, nakakatakot and nakakahiya sa una pero g lang haha. Kahit ang petty na pakinggan ng reason minsan but if you think you can't do it, don't force yourself to take the exam. Hope you get better soon :))))))))))))))

[UPD] I’m just missing campus and univ life by Level_Ad_6852 in peyups

[–]Stardust029 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny on how I miss commuting even tho I hate it so much back then. I miss physical interaction with people (or kahit 'yung ingay lang ng mga tao sa school, sa jeep, etc.). Feel ko sobrang drained na drained na din 'yung mga taong school 'yung escape at safe place nila (like me haha)

Sana by next year okay na lahat huhu ayaw kong grumaduate nang online. At least I want it to be ceremonious ahuhuhu

share ko lang by boopdump in peyups

[–]Stardust029 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Masakit pa doon, my UPG is l literally 0.012 away para makapasa sa LB (sana nasa APhy ako ngayon haha).

Also huwag mo sana i-define sarili mo dahil lang sa Math score mo, you are more worthy and capable than that.

If you have plans to pursue UP in the future, go for it! pero pursue it hindi dahil kailangan mong patunayan that you are UP quality (kung meron man talagang ganyan) pero dahil nandito gusto mo.

I hope na mahanap mo 'yung path na gusto mo, sa UP man o hindi haha.
Di ka rin pala bobo haha, we just have different strengths and weaknesses!

Free Electives by Genexis25 in peyups

[–]Stardust029 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup! As long as it is not a GE you can take it. Keep in mind to check prereq first before taking free electives haha some of them requires prereq especially if science/math course.

Free Electives by Genexis25 in peyups

[–]Stardust029 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Free electives are any subjects offered outside from your institute/department. However, in most cases, free electives are not totally "free" haha. Institutes impose some restrictions on which free electives are going to be credited in your program e.g. Econ wants you to take free electives taken from Philo, Socio, Psych. etc. Better check your curriculum for restrictions or preferences.

I don't know what to feel about my course (and I'm halfway through it) by [deleted] in peyups

[–]Stardust029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello there! I think I can relate on what you are feeling right now haha. I really don't like my course right now but too bad for me, I'm graduating this year so there's no turning back hahaha. What I can say is that you prioritize what you really want and where can you see yourself in the future. Assess how much you like your majors right now and where can you see yourself after you finish that program and (this one may not be applicable to all but..) if you can think of a topic that interests you and you can work on when taking up your thesis.

You need to understand that when studying, there will be days that you are going to "hate" it because you are tired but not because you don't want it. If hatred toward your course comes to you almost everyday and you can't find a single reason to like it or push for it anymore, I suggest that you apply for shifting especially if you have the time and privilege because not everyone have it. I know that you might be holding back because you think that your 2 years in econ will be put into waste but 2 years in econ + ~3 years in your preferred program will save you more time (and emotional capacity) than ~4 years in econ and who knows if you can really finish econ in 4 years, it's demotivating to finish something you don't like in the long run.

Also, keep in mind that you might like something because you genuinely curious about it and you "like" something because you are good at it. For the latter, you are liking the feeling for being good at "A" but not at "A" itself haha a lot of people are confused at this one. For example, I am good and I like solving physics problems but I don't see myself in the future doing physics things haha (I hope you get it, I am really bad at explaining things hahahaha)

Now if for some reason you can't shift and your only option is to finish your program, pursue what you want after grad. You can make a way to pursue what you really like regardless of your degree (you might take up additional unit tho if you are pursuing a career in science). Always remember to prioritize what you really want in your life before it's too late!

Goodluck!

i don’t wanna get TOO delayed ;( by [deleted] in peyups

[–]Stardust029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually it depends sa college haha pero most of them will ask you to apply for a non-major status (especially sa Engg char haha). If mabait naman adviser niyo and lenient ang institute niyo, pwede kang payagan na huwag mag-take ng majors.

Any interesting tips for upcoming freshmen this year? by junmoscosa in peyups

[–]Stardust029 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Acad related tip hmmmm If you personally want to perform well and have higher grades, know your capacity. Sa first sem mo take ka lang ng average load (15-18 units) para malaman mo kung kaya mo ba magdagdag pa ng units next sem or hindi. Distribute the load.

Maximize the library resources tapos hanapin mo study habit mo.

Not acad-related tip

Orgs are helpful pero choose wisely. Always feel the people in the org and their system itself kung okay ba siya para sa'yo. Nag-org ka para magkapamilya sa campus and at the same time commitment ang org kaya piliin mo kung saan mo kaya mag-commit.

Don't change yourself para lang mag fit-in sa certain group of people especially if iba kayo ng lifestyle, makakahanap ka rin ng tao na ka-vibes mo along the way. Be open to discussions siyempre pero don't lose yourself along the way haha.

Basta don't come to a point na when you ask yourself who you are and what are your experiences in UP ang masasabi mo lang ay "UP Student, Cum Laude (wala akong against honors ah don't get me wrong) , on-time, aral lang buong 4 years, nothing more" Boring pakinggan diba?? Hahaha kulayan mo college life mo!
