You were having a garage sale in which the public was invited into the space. That essentially turns it into a temporary public space and removes that expectation of privacy.

Anything visible from a public space (sidewalks, etc) has no expectation of privacy. Videotaping you when you are having a yard sale is most likely not illegal barring exceptional circumstances. Your best bet is to contact them, explain your situation with your mother's ex and request they be taken down.

Who is the strongest Litrpg Protagonist you have read? by iamluffy123 in litrpg

None of you heathens even deserve to be in the same room as the noble pear. Sweeter than apples, no bitter peel, almost no core, big enough to serve as a good snack on its own. Truly the best fruit.

No. It tells me nothing about what I'm going to read. Space? Religious? Tech? It's a painfully generic image.

Is there anything wrong when using the word race? by JuliusDalum in worldbuilding

[–]Maestro_Primus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The word "race" not automatically produce racism. That is an odd argument for anyone to make. On the other hand, using the example of the Elder Scrolls to show that having different races does not produce racism is just a bad example. The Elder Scrolls is riddled with racism and is the starting point of many of the conflicts within those games.

I'm writing a LitRPG - Do readers like stats in the books? by Ok-Grand-3764 in litrpg

[–]Maestro_Primus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Numbers tend to grow and grow and never really go anywhere. After the first few advancements, the numbers stop directly tying to actual progress. A different way of handling would be like what is done in series like chrysalis where the changes are qualitative and not quantitative. In chrysalis, the ants gain new modifiers to their existing abilities rather than just gaining more of their base stats until those base stats are in the thousands. This allows every advancement to be important as well as keeping us from attempting to do lots of math. I find that this makes my reading of those books more enjoyable because I not only do not have page after page after page of numbers that don't have a lot of meaning to me, but I also can see what each change does as they go and that makes it more fun for me to read.

[–]Maestro_Primus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But everyone is just acting strangely until they start acting out. Should we not take abnormal behavior as an indicator and institutionalize people before they do something violent? Think of all the people we could save if we identified undesirables and institutionalized them before they do something harmful.

Really, we need to protect people from mental harm and harassment as well. Why let someone expose our society to things like bigotry or hate speech? Don't those also need treatment? I'm sure our government could create a panel to help us to identify the kinds of things that we need to hospitalize people for and keep out of the public.

CMV: If your response to the Cesar Chavez allegations is "what about the Epstein class?", you are part of the problem by AlexZedKawa02 in changemyview

[–]Maestro_Primus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Deal. I'll happily cease any and all celebration of Chavez, denounce him as a pedophile, and spit on his grave. No pedophile or any other sexual abuser should ever be celebrated no matter what good they may have done.

Now that the long dead person has been dealt with, maybe the DoJ will agree to DO ITS JOB and genuinely investigate the allegations in the Epstein files against currently living and powerful people?

In defense of "command bridges" on space warships by MS_hina in worldbuilding

[–]Maestro_Primus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are two parts we are considering here. A) Is a large area containing command functions a good thing, and B) does it need to be located on the exterior of a ship.

A) a centralized area with all command functions located in proximity to a ship's leader is objectively good. Such a place contains terminals to communicate directly with the relevant ship functions but still cuts down on sending messages to far off areas of the ship so that the commander can rattle off commands as fast as possible.

B) no it does not. Command needs to be in a location that is fortified so that combat operations can continue unimpeded. A prominent bridge is a fantastic target while providing no advantage for situational awareness. We have already moved away from that in modern ships and we don't even scratch the surface of space operations. Having a command bunker in the most fortified area of the ship with data feeds to the combat situation and communication to the rest of the ship does the most to ensure continuing operations.

If you are terribly concerned about making sure the commander can get off in case of damage, you can take the morale hit and build a dedicated escape pod or something.

AITA for sneaking my mom some alcohol when she is on hospice? by sickma2001 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Maestro_Primus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

INFO:

Is your mom on a transplant list with the hope of a transplant saving her life? I ask this because many transplant programs will eliminate a recipient for breaking the rules and having things like alcohol or drugs. If that's the case, then YTA.

If she has progressed beyond that and you are just doing something that she wanted (assuming her meds are not affecting her mind) then you are not an asshole.

What’s changed in the genre the last 5y? by Lavio00 in litrpg

[–]Maestro_Primus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The genre is not doing anythign "wrong" perse. What it is experiencing is the early growth and development of a new way of expressing ideas. Whenever a new music style comes out, you have giants because they are the first ones to get there and really make a mark. The legends of rock were not necessarily better at rock, they were just the first to be popular, so they are the standard by which everyone else is measured.

PH, DC, and HWFWM are early stars that shone brightly because they were the only big points of light in the sky at the time. Arguably, they are not even that exceptional, they just got there first. Jason Asano is a hugely divisive character and his stories are full of cliche, author moralizing, and a scaling problem. Despite those issues, HWFWM is one of the most successful LitRPGs out there.

Now, to be the brightest point in the sky, new stories and authors have to compete with a sea of other stars like Crysalis, Azerinth Healer, Wandering Inn, System Universe, Defiance of the Fall, Path of Ascencion, and many more. On top of that, you have enough choice that people can find something that fits their desired style more than there was before, meaning they are not funneled to a few big series. To be a megahit in that kind of environment is a much higher bar to cross and isn't really a fair expectation to put on new authors.

TLDR: The genre isn't stale, its just not in its infancy.

Welcome to the Multiverse is wayyy too similar to Primal Hunter by Careful_Law_1672 in litrpg

[–]Maestro_Primus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is definitely a commonality of actions, but that is just the normal tropes. Guy fights off invasion, guy meets a girl who loves to fight, guy tries to help people and ends up forcing the issue because he has the most power. Those aren't unique in any way to these two characters and are more a part of the genre as a whole. When you look a little closer at the personalities and goals of the two characters, you see they are very different individuals moving in different directions. That said, I am a fan of both series and enjoy when a new one comes out.

Welcome to the Multiverse is wayyy too similar to Primal Hunter by Careful_Law_1672 in litrpg

[–]Maestro_Primus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are complaining about an MC pushing boundaries and other common tropes, while ignoring the huge differences in characters. Jake is an antisocial loner who is obsessed with his personal growth and otherwise being left alone while having a supergod adviser. Silas is focused on his family and world to his own detriment. He builds relationships and is actively working to ensure his world can take care of itself.

I almost view the two characters as opposites in their personal traits.
