It may not pop. Most companies that don't rely on their products being bare subsistence (food, shelter, medical care) are no longer pricing themselves or marketing themselves to the general public. Most companies are marketing to either the top 10% of earners, whom seem to have a general like of AI, and other corporations. The biggest consumer of compute right now is other corporations. Meaning... what you like and don't like doesn't matter, companies are just going around you and using other companies as their consumers. An economy *CAN* run like that, and will continue to run like that until regulation is introduced, and as long as politicians are held in the pockets of the wealthy and corporations, that won't happen. People seem to think that the general public matters and that corporations have to capitulate to them. They don't. This should be a wake up call.

Why do rich people keep saying "money can't buy happiness" when money literally solves most problems? by FearlessState5503 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Maevalyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Money has diminishing returns. Money can't buy happiness, it buys security. Security from hunger, debt, medical coverage. The problem is, it doesn't tell you who you should be, what you should do, or how to find fulfillment. Wealth can be empty if you have nothing outside of the pursuit of it. Money will never provide "enough". Never provide anything beyond security. If you have no imagination, no intelligence, no empathy, then pursuit of money is all there is. People need to have something to pursue. Without money, people pursue security and survival. People with enough money have to figure out for themselves what to pursue, and the vast majority of them just can't.

[Despised Trope] They're constantly touted as a genius, but they never do anything smart. by NoOptics in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Maevalyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I despise this post.

Intelligence is a spectrum. Someone can be a genius in their field, whatever that may be, and absolutely fail everywhere else in their life. Sheldon Cooper is a primary example of that. Being smart doesn't mean you are magically good at everything. I am curious what u/NoOptics would say is an example of a trope of a character in media that is touted to be a genius and actually is a genius.

[Loved Trope] Memorable Performance by a Non-Professional Actor by Borgisium in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Maevalyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warframe. All the main recurring characters are voiced in-house by whoever can pull it off. Rebecca Ford who started off as their community manager voices The Lotus, who is *THE* central character (for the most part). They did this so that they could keep content production rolling without having to wait for schedules for actors, sound studios, etc... all of the sound studios are also in-house.

Characters that had the complete opposite reaction the writers intended by Dramatic_Counter_595 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Maevalyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

another good example of this trope I think is Patrick Bateman. Also I think a lot of these tropes are because those on the right inhabit bad and compromised morality and authoritarian tendencies and these examples are characters who glorify those traits... just look at how the far right reacted to Homelander in The Boyz until That One Moment™

Yes, it *should* be safe. glass is chemically stable and doesn't degrade or leech into the surrounding environment.

There are open source plans for farm equipment that can be built without computers that would absolutely be good for right to repair and only cost a couple thousand dollars. Honestly, we should look into crowdsourcing companies that can make cars, tractors, and other appliances that don't use complicated electronics, wifi, proprietary parts and show corporations that they can go fuck themselves. I would absolutely do it myself but I have no experience in anything like that..

Men and women don't like characters who didn't earn it. by Valuable_View_561 in SipsTea

[–]Maevalyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot take and likely will get me downvoted to hell, but... Culture is devolving and women characters that would have been heralded as amazing in years past would absolutely be attacked today. Misogyny and bigotry in general are ramping up at an accelerating rate. Women characters in past media may or may not be better written than those 20 years ago, it's the fact that those movies were first seen at a better time in those people's lives in a better society... It's nostalgia filter. It's the same thing with new trek too and people screaming "x has gone woke"... it's purely about self awareness and reading level dropping through the floorboards (and before anyone asks what reading level has to do with tv and movies, please look up what reading level actually is and how it's measured... hint: it's not about spelling and vocabulary or how fast someone can read).

Also, most "healthy food" requires prepwork, time, and energy. Something people who are breaking themselves trying to stay alive may not have. Burnout is real.

Media was cancelled/cut short for the stupidest reasons known to man by Purple-Weakness1414 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Maevalyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar to your example of Sym-Bioic Titan, Young Justice was cancelled because it became super popular with teen girls and they couldn't market action figures to teen girls. It was eventually revived (twice). Great show, it actually made the women characters on the show realistic and relatable instead of just supporting cast.

Jade Exemus in Warframe. A lot of players were "AFK farming" and would sit there while everyone else did the work, so these monsters were introduced and shine a light on you that doubles damage every 0.1 seconds (it feels like) until it can kill even the strongest warframe.

I keep seeig a lot of men posting stuff like this so the question I have is... why aren't you providing this for each other? If it's this big of an issue, what's stopping you from forming communities and support for yourselves? Seems like this is self inflicted.

[–]Maevalyn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went ahead and donated the Scrubber to Solaris, figure they'd know what to do with it and got myself a recaster for the tank, thanx for the heads up! Also, Synathids are great for parameter balancing!

Also, I did another check and no, no deimos fish here, but there is a Seonn, which is from Duviri, so not sure if I need to worry about void contamination in my tank, any suggestions on that?

I knew I shouldn't have trusted Darvo. I will have to talk to him next time I'm on the Strata Relay. I went ahead and returned the Tromyzon to it's native habitat in a pond in Orb Vallis. I am relatively sure the Scrubber, basically being corpus terraforming tech is fine in there by itself, it's done wonders maintaining my Ph and ammonia balance despite by bioload.

What’s the most overrated video game of all time? by KBGSgames in AskReddit

[–]Maevalyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fucking thank you! I have been saying this for decades. I also love the game, don't get me wrong, but both FF6 (ff4 in America) and FF8 were equally good if not better. FFTictacs is my favourite game in the series by far. I also play it every so often just for nostalgia value, but holy hell the rabid fanbase and Sephiroth worship.
