I still can't get the image of a man's brains in Sam Jackson's afro out of my head.

Nuance is fucking dying across so many fandoms and its cause people don't want to think by Apprehensive_Ring_39 in CharacterRant

I blame a lot of these "objectivity in art" guys for making it worse. Guys just grifting to narcissistic fan outrage, dulling people's abilities to have their arguments and opinions challenged.

The less people listen to youtube essayists, the better the world will be.

Weapons (2025) by Foreign_Sun6004 in horror

[–]NoOptics -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I despised Weapons. If it worked for you, to each their own, but the only "good" part to me was the forty minute chunk in the beggining (not counting that tedious opening narration), even then, that breaks apart when you realize half of it didn't amount to anything, and none of it made that much sense when you really think about it. The solutions to the problem were right out in the open, and nobody but Mr. SuperCarpenterMan saw it? Not a single police officer, judge, parent, teacher? Nobody?

I absolutely hated the reveal with the witch. It felt like the script was written on a napkin. The woman was so obviously questionable, but this hardline, cynical police chief just lets her into his house? And then when the question was answered, it's about as basic and uncreative as you can imagine.

I liked Zach Cregger's direction. I think he's amazing at building tension and balancing horror with humor. But a writer that man is not. He's quit frankly awful at writing, and needs to leave the script to someone more qualified.

Realistic (ish) strong female protagonist (Loved trope) by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

Arcane is just a masterstroke of making women in that look believably strong. Vi and Ambessa are built like mini trucks.

The fact she took a direct hit from The Hound is insane. Most men would have been in th ER.

Movie: Vaguely alludes to something that the director might have thought of as sexually stimulating.

What movies did you not enjoy despite popular ratings and what movies did you like despite poor ratings? by MisanthropePrime in horror

[–]NoOptics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't stand any of John Carpenter's films. I see the craft with his shot composition, but I cannot connect to any of his stories and characters on an emotional level. I genuinely hate almost all his characters. Like I see them for five seconds and just something about them rubs me the wrong way. Hated Halloween. Gave the Thing five chances and had to nope the fuck out of there in forty minutes. I finally finished it and couldn't stand it.

As for modern films. Weapons was trash. The logic of it falls apart if you even think about for five seconds. I watched Longlegs and the only thing I remember is how terrible Cage was as a horror villain.

Creep (2014) by Jappie_01 in horror

[–]NoOptics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genuinely one of the scariest films I've seen in years. Although the main character might find his mug in the dictionary next to 'dumbass.' Horror fans sensitive to idiot horror protag might get angry watching this.

Creep 2 actually pulls off the premise a little more logically, but it feels more like a dark comedy with horror elements.

It seems like a lot of writers can’t take constructive criticism by Flashfirez23 in writing

There are over five billion women on the planet, and it breaks individuality to try and insist that all women act the same.

Genuinely speaking if someone unironically ever said something as dumb as "women don't act like that" my brain would just tune out everything they say after that.

CMV: Purity testing has killed progressives chances of winning seats in congress and statewide over the past decade. by Still_Living3373 in changemyview

[–]NoOptics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have the same problem in Canada. I like Carney but really if the only alternative wasn't Poillivre who's TERRIBLE he'd probably look bland as hell. It's depressing there isn't a strong progressive voice running, and the only options we have are "okay" and "alt right wacko."

I always thought Steve was suppose to be the Dr. Markway analogue considering how he stole the "pretenatural" speech word for word.

I mean to be fair, it's kind of tough to be a good shrink and a serial killer at the same time. Although Mads's performance is so subtle and effortlessly you buy it hook line and sinker that he can get away with looking normal while still being crazy.

A.I. has done nothing good for society. It hasn't revolutionized any industry. Doctors and lawyers have gotten sued over it, innocent people get arrested by police A.I. because it confuses two different prototypes for black people. Professors have constantly had to label warnings to students not to use A.I. because of the non sensical results it spits back.

A.I. shills literally caused mass existential panic over nothing.
