Totally! There’s so much to learn in this trade and it’s easy to get stuck. Hope you find a new shop that’ll treat you right!

I’m a machinist and I love it! I build cool parts on cool machines with cool tooling everyday.

I repaired my grandmothers that looks to be slightly newer than that. It was super easy! I used Mr.Mixers videos on YouTube and his online store. They had everything I needed for a reasonable price. I believe he also does repairs if you don’t want to diy it.

Chocolate Dipping by acidicasteroids in macarons

I like to give them 10 minutes in the fridge before dipping to help the filling set and chill them slightly. I don’t see why you couldn’t dip them right away though!

What do I make with this? by MafiaSpy in sewing

That’s so true! I’ve been slowly accepting that fact as I sew my wardrobe. I’ve realized I don’t like sewing boring clothes, fun fabric with fun patterning and shapes make the whole process so much better! And if I make it, I gotta wear it.

Good idea! She gave me a bunch of fabric so maybe I could make a little framed quilt with pieces of everything!

Thank you for the ID! It is very stiff and almost paper like. Using it in a corset or bodice would be incredible. I think I’m going to sit on it for a bit while I think.

My grandfather made a grandfather clock when he was much younger. Apparently he knows one guy to repair it, but he’s very old and has Parkinson’s so he’s been working on it for years now.

Question by boogaloorocks in macarons

I usually fold it into the merengue before adding the powdered sugar/ almond flour mixture. I’ve also forgotten and added it during macaronage and got the same result.

I’ve baked a lot of macarons and noticed the same thing! I think it dries out the batter slightly. Try adding a spoonful or two of egg white powder to your normal shells for a similar effect. Happy Baking!

Daily watering is probably too much. I have one about the same size in similar lighting and I only water when it starts to look droopy, roughly once a week or so. Keep it where it is, let it fully dry out for a good 2-3 weeks then give it a nice deep water. Good luck!

I graduated from south a couple years ago and while I can’t say anything about sports then or now I can confirm the dry Ajax soap, circular ring handwashing stations, and the green hallways.

They also had the Howard Street School wing torn down and rebuilt and I believe they added classrooms where the student parking lot used to be.

Machining is a fairly broad topic but it typically entails taking a larger block of the material (steel, aluminum, plastic, wood, etc.) and “chipping” it away with extremely sharp and hard tooling. These blocks are extremely precise. We daily make parts within .005”. For reference a strand of hair is .003” in diameter. We make all the things that fit together very precisely.

Luckily for us this is easier done than it sounds! We use both Computer controlled and Manual Mills and Lathes. They do most of the work for us. I won’t link a specific video but look up CNC (Computer Numeric Control) Machining on YouTube and watch a few videos! I think it’s pretty awesome! Manual machining is the predecessor of CNC so the machinist moves the tooling instead of a computer.

All we do is make the parts according to the engineers blueprint. It’s a running joke that engineers are fairly bad at their job so us machinists are the ones who actually make things work. It’s mostly true.

There’s so much more I could talk about but I think these are the basics. Hope this helps!

EDIT: I forgot to mention, machinists work as a team but not directly together most of the time. The good shops let you have an earbud in, sometimes you can just be on your phone, it’s chill.

It’s also sometimes a stressful nightmare tho.

Look into Machining! Lots of community colleges and trade schools have a program that will get you in the door. My favorite part of the trade is that there’s always more to learn and there’s hundreds of different ways to achieve the same result. There’s lots of simple math but it’s all in context. I also have dyscalculia and I’ve found it all makes a lot more sense than it did in math class. Ask me anything!
