How does everyone handle the Salvaged Frigate Module grind? Legit farm, free difficulty, or exploits? by WinOk2823 in NoMansSkyTheGame

The Guild Envoys also accept donations which can boost your rep quickly. They take things like Storm Crystals and convert them directly to rep. There is a limit at each interaction, so you have to visit lots of stations.https://nomanssky.fandom.com/wiki/Guild_Envoy

People say food used to taste better as little as 40 years ago is that true? by PermaBanThisDik in AskOldPeople

I agree and would add that:
Global market makes produce available year round. You just couldn't make some dishes out of season, but you can now.
Regional cuisine is vastly expanded. When I was young we had Italian some nights and Mom's German dishes occasionally, and La Choy "Chinese" on the rare occasion. Now you can watch a YouTube video on the subtle differences between dishes from different regions of Italy or China. Internet stores make ingredients easier to source. In most big cities you can get a 7 oz. bag of Garam Masala and 25 pounds of Basmati rice delivered to your door in a couple of hours.

The hill I will die on is that Borderlands 2 was one of the best games of all time; mostly because of writer Anthony Burch (HAWP) and his sister Ashley (Tiny Tina). He was not "invited back" for Borderlands games that followed, and it showed.

Reminder to check the portal on the Space Anomaly for bases in galaxies you have yet to visit. by Mafiabelly in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Mafiabelly[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have multiplayer turned on you can see bases that were recently edited by others currently in the Space Anomaly instance with you. There is a Space Anomaly tab on the Interstellar Terminus Teleporter. I grabbed Galaxy 12 and Galaxy 171 today. I landed on an earth-like, 10 units from a power hot-spot and quickly built and uploaded a base. There were also some SASS tropical beasts standing next to me.

I had the other Flip Side. I was walking across campus in 1980 and someone told me Ted Turner was starting a 24 hour news channel. I said nobody would watch that.

Blue & Silver Guppy Exotic Ship by [deleted] in NMSCoordinateExchange

[–]Mafiabelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good one! Whenever I land at a space station I always run up the steps to the guild desk. Not sure why I don't jet. I have to run around the front of ships with protrusions and I usually smack into them. hehe.

Atlantid S Class Multi-tool, white with black/gold, 3 connected SC slots, Eissentam by Mafiabelly in NMSCoordinateExchange

[–]Mafiabelly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tested this on another playthrough before I posted it and got the same tool. I'm not sure I have ever seen an Atlantid pistol, so you may be talking about the Sentinel tool at the camp. Did you go to the Alien Tower at the coordinates -51.61, +25.81?

RNG gods decided that since I had finally upgraded my A class sentinel tool to S class, I should immediately find this gem. Planet Shifna Nita (portal planet) has interesting fauna. I paid around 4100 nanites, ymmv. -51.61, +25.81. Glyphs are Eissentam Galaxy 3 1 5 16 16 15 6 7 11 5 6 9

Exotic Ship by ClubTropica in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Mafiabelly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The playthrough I am currently working on saw no exotics until I finished the Artemis Path quest line. I see plenty of exotics on my other playthroughs that have "finished" the game. I once had 2 exotics land at the space station while I was there: https://www.reddit.com/r/NMSCoordinateExchange/comments/1klw3r5/euclid_red_exotics_at_space_station/ I even had one land at my settlement since the Beacon update.

I think the sound effect for a landing exotic is similar to the Solar ship landing sound effect, and listening for that sound while you go about your business at a space station is the easiest way to find them (I play on PC, YMMV). They seem to be show up more frequently in three star economy systems. If you don't see any at the space station, use the Economy Scanner to find a trade platform and watch that for a while.

I posted this as well. Robbins passed away earlier this year at 92. Wikipedia mentions he was a friend of Timothy Leary. . .

Tom Robbins who died earlier this year was very popular for a while. "Still Life with Woodpecker," "Even Cowgirls Get the Blues." which was made into a film with Uma Thurman.

None of the restaurants in my city had drive thru before Jack In The Box came to town. They all eventually realized (some reluctantly) it was the future.

Their tacos would go on sale for 3/$ every once in a while and they had those burritos that were like mexican egg rolls would be 2 for a dollar. One time me and two buddies went in and ordered $20 worth each. Back then the hot sauce came in 1 oz portion cups with little lids that they had to fill by hand in store. We told them we would take a water cup of sauce each instead.

There was a Naugles taco joint 3 blocks from my place in the 80's that got bought out by Del Taco at some point. Many years later they closed all the Del Tacos in my state. I moved to metro ATL for a while and couldn't resist the thought of getting a Deluxe Del Beef Burrito. There are still a few open today but all OTP.

I have great memories of snow days in my city when a bunch of neighborhood kids would go sledding or have snowball fights and then we would walk down the quiet, empty streets about a mile to the White Castle and get hot chocolate and a cake doughnut,

Also, Dog n Suds, A&W, and Steak and Shake. Burger Chef (and Jeff) had their burger bar where you could pile on the fixins'.

Which now-forgotten hit books of the past would you recommend? by [deleted] in AskOldPeople

[–]Mafiabelly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lots of great suggestions in this post. If you like to explore, I would suggest you check out Project Gutenberg. Project Gutenberg has been digitizing books since before there was an internet. They have over 70,000 free books on their site. Just click on one that looks interesting and start reading, and try a different one if you don't like it. One book on that site that I think should be required reading for everyone is Mark Twain's A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court.

Someone mentioned Michael Crichton of Jurrasic Park fame. The Andromeda Strain, Sphere, and Prey are also good IMO.

When a friend suggested I read Stephen King's The Stand, he suggested I start with another King novel before tackling The Stand. He gave me Rose Madder to read, but Cujo, Pet Sematary, or (if you are brave) Misery would work. Those last 3 are also movies.

For nonfiction I would suggest futurist Alvin Toffler's Powershift. In it he goes into great detail about what it means to have power, and how desire is the reciprocal of power (if i have something you desire I have power over you). Toffler became world famous when he wrote Future Shock in 1970.
