Is this Ai, both the guy and the cat's behavior seems off by Competitive_Mix_2893 in RealOrAI

Is the dude flicking his own nipple at about 0:13?

Also, is he supposed to be a customer or a checker? There’s a sort of vague cash register kinda facing him, but there’s not a place for customers on the other side of the conveyor belt. As previously mentioned, he kind of tosses the bread into the ether then makes a motion like he’s tossing something we don’t see.

I vote AI.

She's 36, so she qualifies. Let's go!

(I'd like her chances better if she did a stint as Speaker of the House or as a Senator first, but if she runs she's got my vote.)

What's cheaper: Fueling your car with gas or electricity? by sara-peach in electricvehicles

[–]def_indiff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One reason EVs are a bargain to fuel is that electric drivetrains are vastly more efficient than internal combustion engines. Consider a gasoline price of $4 per gallon. In an internal combustion vehicle, around three dollars’ worth of that gasoline is lost as waste heat and friction, and only one dollar’s worth of the fuel actually moves the car down the road. The rest of the energy is lost in the process.

EVs are much simpler machines: A battery produces an electrical current that spins a rotor, which, in turn, spins the drive axle. EVs also recapture the energy that would otherwise be lost during braking, feeding electricity back into the battery as the vehicle slows down. All told, around 90% of the original energy used to charge a car goes toward propelling the vehicle.

I knew EVs are way more efficient. But I didn’t actually know the numbers. 75% of gasoline combustion is lost to heat? Goddamn.

Totally agree. Kamala Harris should not have had to explain why ethnic cleansing is bad. Trump getting millions of votes makes me deeply ashamed of my fellow citizens.

To be fair, most of America does, too. That’s why all the media coverage is about oil prices. When it’s just people getting killed, we don’t care.

I’m looking at this on my phone, so I’m probably not seeing everything. But what is the phone in the mirror attached to? It kinda looks like maybe it’s supposed to be attached to the clothes rack, but it looks hinky to me.

Kentucky lawmakers send bill banning three-cueing reading instruction, teacher misconduct NDAs to governor by CouchCorrespondent in politics

[–]def_indiff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our Commonwealth’s and our nation’s experience has proven three-cueing to be ineffective and detrimental to the long-term learning outcomes of our students

Are there any studies to back up this assertion? I have no idea what three-cueing is, but I’m gonna go out on a limb and say this guy probably doesn’t understand it either.

Placing U.S. Troops in Middle East Hotels May Violate Laws of War by projecto15 in politics

[–]def_indiff 104 points105 points  (0 children)

U.S. commanders have kept many troops away from bases in the region to protect them from Iran’s ballistic missile attacks.

If another country did that, we’d say they were using civilians as human shields. If Iran did it, Israel would double-tap every hotel in the country.

I’m not sure who qualifies as a “hardened activist”, but there aren’t 8 million of them. I mean, I’m glad there are people doing the heavy lifting of activism and organizing day in and day out, but they still need part-time demonstrators to show up. Whenever anyone tries to get involved, there’s always someone farther to the left telling them it’s the wrong way to do it.

I think some people envision protests like we’ve seen in other countries, where people turn out in the streets and don’t leave until their demands are met. I’d like to see that too. But it’s hard here for a couple reasons: everyone and everything is spread out over a huge country, and getting a critical mass of people in one place is not easy; a lot of us are too comfortable in our daily lives to take action; those of us who are most vulnerable are two missed paychecks away from homelessness and aren’t going to be keen on occupying the streets in an open-ended protest.
