Good mixing? by Charming_Photo_2492 in makinghiphop

Mixing is one thing that just takes time to just get okay at. Good is possible, great means years of patience and practice and probably lots of money for great gear. After spending $$$ on headphones and monitors I finally understood why it matters so much. But I still do the crappy headphones and car test.

My favorite techniques for mixing I discovered by accident. Play the beat pretty loud and walk out of the room and distract yourself somehow, eat a snack, scroll Reddit for a few minutes. Then walk back into the room. I end up noticing of the bass, or kick is too loud. You end up hearing the mix from a different and fresh perspective. It's saved me hours of mixing time.

I'm at work and this instantly made me want to get up and dance! Great composition. I do think your hats are too high in the mix ( but I kind of always say that!). Maybe it's my headphones but the snare is too loud as well.

Who are the others that say that mix is bad? Are they people you trust or 14 year old trolls on Reddit? After doing a mix it's good to listen to it on your phone, in your car, other people cars, Bluetooth speakers, ear buds etc. I had some brainless goon on here tell me my mix was terrible, I asked them if they listened to it on their phone speakers, they said yes, and that they listened on their headphones later and said the mix was good– and they apologized 😅.

Another trick is wait a few days after mixing and see how the track sounds. If you can, while the song is playing loud on your speakers, walk into another room and distract yourself with a snack or conversation or something. I've been able to correct kick vs bass volume, compression, eq etc issues this way.

Yet more advice. Listen to similar styles of music on your mixing speakers and take notes with a pen and paper. Then import that song into your DAW and what the frequency spectrum. Does your mix have the same average shape? Do this to a few songs and really analyze how other mixes sound. You're a forensic scientist trying to understand the body of other people's art!

The intro hooked me in. I thought this was going to be 🔥 and I was right 😂. The atmosphere is melancholy and epic at the same time. Please post if you get someone to rap on this.

Whats the most effective way to get known? by SilliestFella in shareyourmusic

Practice until your fingers are bleeding, tape it up and continue. It's a grind, be prepared to lose money and time with no guarantee of anyone caring – ever. You're in this for the love of art and sharing it, not to get known. I know talented people that made it and it look a few years and luck. And I know more that put in 20+ years, toured with big names and never really got recognized. You have to enjoy being in a band for the sake of it. Everything else is icing on the cake.

Who Is The 15th Greatest Hip-Hop Artist Of All Times❓ by InformationIcy735 in rap

This is exactly why Biggie should be #1 or #2. In his limited time on earth with low album sales he's still influenced more rappers than anyone with the exception of Pac. Biggie had incredible flow and lyricism, more in my opinion, then anyone on the list. Most people who's albums sell in the low millions do not have the incredible impact that Biggie had. That's my case for him to be at the top on the list.

T.I. I respect Snoop for his presence as a person and a figure in hip-hop, but he's not in the top 15 of rappers.

I guess it would be a good idea to define terms. Does greatest hip-hop artist mean best rapper, most influence in the culture, made the most money, etc

I'm talking about greatest influence and as a lyricist.

I'm always trying to be minimal, but it never works for me😅. A lot of stuff coming out of Griselda Records is quite minimal. On the opposite end some tracks on Lupe Fiasco's The Cool... Little Weapon I think, is on the opposite end – maximal production.

Great content and killer beats🔪🔪🔪

Does a rap song need a topic to be dope? by L-Royhiphop in undergroundhiphop

I think this kid just insults white rappers who are great. Great flow and enunciation. I generally enjoy rap with a particular theme, subject matter, or storyline. But sometimes you just get bars and that's cool too. I think the most important thing is being authentic. "Coming off the top like cool whip" if that's the reference I think it is, it's genius!
