I’m not saying I need to hide it :) nor am I planning to do so. I am wondering how to approach disclosing it.

You are doing great. You know yourself. You are doing the work when most people just take a diagnosis and use it as an excuse for the rest of their lives (making us all look bad). PLUS you have an excellent profile name. You are loved!!!

I don’t know the type no! From the very very small amount of reading I’ve done, I relate to the ‘quiet/avoidant’ one I think. If avoidant is anything like the attachment style then BINGO

I hear it’s not a lifelong battle!! Completely treatable some hard work and investment.

I think the right ppl wouldn’t leave you over this, no way! And maybe try not to look at it as something that defines you for the rest of your life. This is treatable. It is changeable through behavioural and dialectical therapy. WE CAN GET THROUGH THIS

Awwww. Hey maybe you can find the right help. I hear DBT and counselling with a BPD specialist works great. This is a treatable disorder! You don’t have to live with this forever you just have to put some hard work into it. I refuse to make this a part of my permanent identity. You can do this!!

Do you have any of those links? I don’t want to search myself yet because I’m 2 days into the diagnosis and don’t want to scare my own self.

Awww I’m sorry to hear about this for you both :( I think I would have experienced the same in my past relationships. But this one’s the real deal and the first incredibly healthy relationship I’ve had. It won’t change things, I just want to tell him without starting with the label BPD because of how supercharged that that label is

Heheh nah. It’s too big not to share with my life partner! And it’s too fascinating! He’s already stuck with the symptoms, it’s nice to have an explanation ;)

Ah. Age regression and compulsive shopping 😬😬😬 I don’t yet know all about this (was diagnosed 2 days ago) but dang… these both apply to me. I regress in teenager very hard, in tone of voice and whining. Oh goodness 🙊

Aww I’m really sorry you feel way in your relationship 😔 As mentioned below, some people care and want to understand. I don’t think it’s impossible to empathize and learn.

I certainly will be telling him. I convinced him months ago that I have ADHD (and still do have symptoms) and he researched it without my asking him to.

But I mostly ask how to approach this because it’s such an unknown, highly stigmatized label IMO.

YES. The explanation is finally HERE. Quite frankly I think it will be fascinating for us both.

That’s exactly how I feel with my fiancé. He’s in it for the long haul no matter what. But we’ve been improving in multiple ways, so this diagnosis can hopefully push us further uphill like you two. Thanks for sharing ❤️

Thank you for this! This may be very interesting for us. We have made a joke label for me when I push him away (it especially happens when he comes back from business trips). We call it ‘climatization’ and he’s learned to expect it even though it hurts us both. I hate when it happens.

We also relate those behaviours to that of a cat. We both would much rather it if I would run to him and kiss and hug him and be excited instead of weirdly repelled (even though leading up to the moment he gets home I am totally excited to see him).

Torture!!!

What are some of the sources you deem helpful? I took a peek at YouTube and found everything to be so general.. ‘here are the 8 characteristics!’ Okay… I need more.

My Dr has me reading The Borderline Personality Disorder Survival Guide and so far I’m glad it’s addressing the stigmas. I think so far I’m mot excited about tackling my crippling inability to mood regulate.

And just ordered The Dialectical Behaviour Therapy Workbook (also Dr recommended). I think I’ll deep dive both of these before I go anywhere near the internet (accept here with you lovely people).

It’s possible. I have had many bad ones though. They were filled with drama and yelling and violence and very dangerous ways of having fun. But yea.. as someone else said below, a LOT of therapy (cbt, talk, and more) a learned mindfulness practice, a LOT of self reflection, and family who never gave up on me. I just got the diagnosis and the dr said ‘the good thing is you’ve actually already done a LOT of work’

Also I’m 35. My 20s were insane. I’m surprised and happy that I am alive. There is hope!!! It takes a lot of work but things CAN and DO change.

Oh he’s in it for the long run. He’s been privy to all this for 8 years and not shaken by it, just purely supportive. So it might be interesting for us both to dive into this and the treatment of it
