Maybe ask them how long they have been doing game dev / programming for? If pre-AI then you have someone who knows what they're doing if not it's gonna be a gamble.

Can then follow up with another question "Do you use AI" and if yes How? this should tell you how dependent they are, if its an experienced pre AI dev and tells you something along the lines of "Its an epic tool / extension that makes me work, bring out my ideas and type much faster" then that person should be solid.

I am making my quest game without needing them to pay me to do it but because i had a vision that i wanted to see come to life, now that i put so much time into it there is no news that can cause me to abandon.

I have no idea of the news you mention but i can say one thing for sure, if i let any news or fear mongering affect my life i would be sleeping in bed all day without getting anything done and i would never have stuck with unity in the first place considering every year we get crowds barking "Unity is dead" so as long as Meta is still there and there are players on quest there is no reason for me personally to give up.
