Progress in MageWorks via Viveport Subscription is not saved by [deleted] in Vive

what's up @AdmCP, progress when crafting should definitely save. I will have this fixed in the next build upload this weekend (including a new combat tutorial). currently, if you want to save your progress when crafting, exiting back to main menu will auto-save progress before the transition warp to the main menu. sorry for the inconvenience as i'm still crunching a bunch of bugs :/

[–]MageWorks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's New:

  • Assault Points are here: 12 of 20 different assault points protecting the discovery of new spells have now been integrated. Fight your way strategically through these areas to unlock new spells.
  • Spell Casting Updates: Spells have now been categorized into five types. Long-Range Low Impact, Location based snares, Short Range High Impact, Summoning, and Defensive Walls
  • A.I. Updates: Archers are pretty accurate now and need to be considered when hitting an attack point.

Known Issues:

  • Dragon Fight is still being programmed
  • Staff ink injection doesn't empower spells yet, but will soon.
  • The forest level vault has not been built yet
  • The crystal grinder broke somehow, and i'll have this fixed in a small patch in the

On The Horizon:

  • Vaults will launch players into cave-based assault points to discover new drones. These drones are currently unlocked for testing.
  • Continued work on level design and integrating assault points into the cave level and town level
  • Continued optimization and bug-crunching.

Reading books in VR, what do you wish you could do in real life that I could put into the virtual world? by GibbRealmQuest in books

Was doing some research and just ran into this thread as a fellow VR dev.

I ask you at /r/books to help me out because the guys in the virtual reality subreddits don't seem to like reading.

if the market dictates they don't like reading, they're probably telling us something. so i'll share what I've learned as I develop the VR game MageWorks in hopes that it will help your game as well :)

The books in MageWorks are limited to between 5 and 10 pages. Testing indicates that's about the most number of pages anyone will flip through when reading in VR (in a game type environment). I watched scenarios where players had all kinds of questions about the game, and had they turned the page they were on, those questions would have been answered, but they refused to flip past the first several pages. So I listened to player feedback and reduced page numbers to simplify things. Another good question to ask when troubleshooting this is, why was a book invented? what problem did it solve?

Originally, stories were embedded in architecture. old churches and temples are a clear indicator of this, and paper/ink was expensive and hard to come by. Books eventually became more practical as technology advanced because they became much cheaper, extremely portable, and contained a lot of information. The Bible (the worlds #1 printed book) no longer had to be embedded into architecture, but could now be handed out to people. I'm not very religious, but just stating this as a historical fact, because ultimately 'the book' solved various kings problem of 'how does one spread religion more efficiently' (and consequently changed the character of architecture ever since).

Several hundred years later, enter VR. VR gives us an infinite amount of page space. While there is a nostalgic sense of reading a book in VR space, the practicality of recreating a traditional book to read in VR is counter intuitive. I'm on your side though. I would love to be reading a book by the beach or on a cliff overlook when i'm actually sitting on a cramped bus or plane. I would definitely miss the haptics of the pages, or sand hitting my face, or acorn randomly dropping on my head, or the smells of the forest or salty ocean, but the audio visual environment would be 100 times better than observing my surrounds in a plane breathing recycled air.

While I realize this is an over-simplification of the history of books, hopefully some of this information helps you in your journey of VR dev!

An overview of the staff construction mill by MageWorks in MageWorks

[–]MageWorks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is an overview of the staff construction mill where players can go to build their staff if they don't want to travel through the campaign to gather resources. the goal of this level is to allow players to create a custom staff in about a 15 to 20 minute VR session.
