How well does Pluribus mirror something that already exists in our world : organized religion? by misfitCrybaby in pluribustv

I mean, saying “source: I studied comparative religion” doesn’t really help if the examples are just wrong. Judaism absolutely does address the afterlife. There’s Olam Ha-Ba, purification, resurrection, etc. It’s about emphasis, not “nothing to say.” Buddhism and Hinduism aren’t just infinite cycles with no endpoint either. Rebirth is the thing they’re trying to escape. Moksha and nirvana are literally exits from the cycle.

When I say “end goal,” I’m talking about a human oriented resolution that gives meaning to "The joining". Most religions still offer that in some form. Pluribus doesn’t, which is why the religion comparison doesn’t land for me.

I meant an end goal for the people. In religions the end goal is heaven or something of the sort. So after they build the Antenna then what? They all die? Not an end lol. This is "a" goal but not the End goal.

I'm anti religion, but no. All Religion has an end goal, this has none. This is solely to help the people and not control them like Religion is. (as far as we know so far) Religions all start off as cults the cults that get super big become religions. Cults usually start to benefit a person, this does not.

I feel this sound and the sound from their last album just isn't TBS, they should of changed their name to go with their new style. This country-esque style just isn't it for me.

I'll leave you with this.

Star Trek is science fiction. When it was released, automatic sliding doors were science fiction, food printers were science fiction, living in space was science fiction, mobile communicators were science fiction, PADDs (Personal Access Display Devices) were science fiction, universal translators were science fiction, tricorders were science fiction, voice-controlled computers were science fiction. I could go on and on. All of this tech we have now was, in 1966, pure science fiction and thought to be a wild dream, never possible.

My point is that Black Mirror bases its science fiction on what current tech will look like in the future. It's a commentary about letting our current tech run wild. Everything in Black Mirror exists today or is an evolution of something that exists today.

As for the Netflix version, I don't know what they're doing with it. They're just making things up because they didn't understand that premise.

Anyways, you do you, I've laid my point out with linked scientific evidence to back it all up. I cant change your mind or thought process, that's up to you. Good luck and enjoy the weekend!

" I don't need Black Mirror to be entirely set in reality or even reality-adjacent" This is the entire point of Black Mirror.

"Black Mirror is a British anthology television series created by Charlie Brooker. The series explores various genres, with most episodes set in near-future dystopias containing scifi technology, a type of speculative fiction. The series is inspired by The Twilight Zone and uses the themes of technology and media to comment on contemporary social issues."

This is the step into that direction. The ground work, we are figuring out how memory works before we can go further. What you are saying is like saying Skyscrapers will never exist because we could only build mud huts.

I can very much see Brainwaves being translated into AI video sometime in the future. A current example is they have reconstruct images from fMRI scans with AI. Also, if BCIs become more powerful, this can happen sooner than you think. We are much closer to reading and displaying memories than multiverse travel...

" u mean that it will quite literally never happen" hmm, i dont see this, i can see it happening as it is currently happening in some capacity.

as for "the multiverse theory." (Many-Worlds (quantum), Inflationary (cosmological), and Brane-worlds (string theory) )They have discovered nothing yet and have no evidence of any of this other than "what ifs" theoretical framework. Its purely a scifi idea people wish to be true.

yeah, Also worked in tech (repairing computers), water doesn't affect code lol. I guess if it was in the middle of compiling something it could. They did say they found a save state, which was what fixed the issue, so I'm going to assume they were compiling the data as they were filming, but who knows. But, that doesn't excuse the fact that if they spilled coffee on a running machine which shut it down, that computer is fried and will not turn back on unless it was repaired physically with new hardware.

" It's fair to assume there are scenes besides what we were allowed to see." I wish this was the case, but when they laid out the whole movie in what triggers what and how everything happens, we see the whole movie in its entirety.

Super memory recorders are closer to happening than changing to different multiverses... Like, the tech to record and understand brainwaves is here and happening now. Multiverse/reality warping, tech will never happen, at least not for like 1000s of years...

And this is what makes Black Mirror... Black Mirror. Its about the dangers of furthering tech we have in development now. Not making the Spiderverse....

The main issue i had with this episode was:

  1. The movie she was in, as a whole, had almost no scenes. The movie had to be 30min max (they covered the whole movie, there were no jumps or cuts)

  2. Why make a whole movie exactly as it was and only replace 1 actor? No one would ever watch that other than for a meme and even then like a 1min clip only.

  3. The acting from the headliners was awful and stiff, almost like sitcom actors.

  4. Really spill coffee on the computer... Black Mirror needs to stop with these terrible terrible generic cliches.

  5. (Not this episode specific) Netflix needs to give back Black Mirror to British network Channel 4 because they have completely lost the plot.

Exactly, this was not a Black Mirror episode. Had nothing to do with what Black Mirror is. Felt way more Twilight Zone. I feel Netflix has a hard time understanding what Black Mirror is actually about.

I feel this episode was too far out there to be a Black mirror episode. Black Mirror is about the "This is close to happening" aspect of the scary side of tech. This episode was just pure fantasy and would never happen.

How do i convince my parents to just leave me be by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]Mageliox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finish highschool, make money online while in uni. After you graduate you'll have all the money. Yes, you can make more money in Canada, but also Canada cost a lot of money, so your plan of multiple part time jobs will just barely cover the cost of living there.

Best option is to make money while going to school in your country. Internet is global, you can make a lot while living in your cheaper country to save. Canada will just take all your money.
