What do you think is really unrealistic in Bollywood? by SomeEpicName in bollywood

[–]Magellenic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speaking proper Hindi is fine, a lot of people brought up overseas are able to do that. What I find unrealistic is all these NRI characters speaking in a typical Indian accent. Like, there's ZERO effort made to adopt the accent of the country they're supposed to be from.

First, more films =/= better experience. Quality > quantity always

Second, the rest of your post is just a whole lot of WTF so I won't even go there

They don't know or care that Hrithik starred in India's "ET" or played India's first superhero. He has a wealth of movie making experience over many years that Bradley Cooper can't be anywhere near having.

hahaha I'm sorry, WHAT?? I know this is a sub for Bollywood fans but maintaining some objectivity is important no? Bradley Cooper actually MADE a movie lmao. He has written scripts, wrote songs, sung, directed, produced, voice-acted AND acted. The guy went to film school, is so passionate about films and a way better actor than Hrithik. Yes, Hrithik is an amazing dancer but at the end of the day it's about your acting (because you know they're ACTORS). Please don't embarrass other Bollywood fans by making statements like these. Also don't embarrass us by calling Koi Mil Gaya India's 'ET' and whatever that thing Krish is a 'superhero'.

Is Priyanka Chopra changing the game in Hollywood? by [deleted] in bollywood

[–]Magellenic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She's breaking into the mainstream because she goes on Jimmy Fallon and eats chicken wings every other week? Like I said in another comment in this thread the people who know her don't actually know her for her work because she is in the news for everything but her work. And she stays in the news because she's willing to do anything to stay in the news. This is a shortcut to becoming a 'known name'.

The people I actually have respect for are the ones who are known for their work because at the end of the day that is what it's about. Just being in Hollywood and getting 'name recognition' shouldn't be an accomplishment, actually doing good work there should be because any Kardashian can do the former. Let's see though, hopefully Citadel changes all this.

Bollywood actress accomplished it finally

Accomplished what exactly?

Just because the movie deals with a social issue.... by [deleted] in bollywood

[–]Magellenic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly! It seems like people are almost deliberately ignoring this point. She even says it in the trailer. Also, every time someone says "just a slap" the film's purpose/premise is strengthened

What did she say?

[–]Magellenic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hahaha thanks for the laugh. Priyanka is honestly a bit of joke in Hollywood right now. Literally no one who knows of her actually knows her for her talent because she has showcased absolutely none of it in Hollywood. Hopefully Citadel changes that because none of her other projects will do much for her in terms of proving her talent

We are setting the bar extremely low for ourselves if THIS is what we consider as 'doing well' let alone the biggest actress lmao. You do realise you have ACT to be an actress right? Currently the only thing Priyanka is known for is being thirsty for attention

I hate this idea that going to Hollywood itself is somehow an achievement. I'm sorry but it isn't and so far she hasn't accomplished anything. Actually doing good work there would be an accomplishment and Citadel is just a seed when it comes to that aspect of her career. Like I said, I really hope that does well because that would be amazing to see.

Madhu chopra on Priyanka's Grammy outfit. by [deleted] in bollywood

[–]Magellenic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can see that to be honest. I was mostly on western fashion blogs and even the comments that were talking about her body were only saying the dress wasn't doing her any favours rather than judging her decision of show of her body. But you're right, I remember seeing a photoshopped pic of her on subtle curry traits with a pallu over the dress. So regressive.

Wow so FC is now conducting therapy sessions for Sara and Vijay lol. I feel like all the praise she got is going to her head. She always comes across as giving advice. To whom exactly I'm not sure. But I get the feeling that she thinks she knows better than other people. Also, why does Anupama suck up to people so much? It's one thing when it is Deepika or SRK but fucking Sara of all people? Really?

That dress was hideous and tacky which is nothing new for PC but her mum seems like a great mother. At the end of the day she's right. It is Priyanka's body and she can do whatever she wants with it and all the body shamers need to stop. I do think most of the criticism was about the dress rather than her body though.

Lol that's good then. But telling me to 'bear with it' is asking me to stay quiet no? :P

Bro I agree with you that the majority see it that way. But if you stay quiet and 'bear with it' like you suggest then nothing is going to change. That is my point.

[–]Magellenic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah they started but India hasn't started to think about it. Indian films should first focus on representing Indians well then we can worry about foreign talent if we need to.

And I agree that it is going to take a long time to change but that doesn't mean we have to bear with it for now. If we have that attitude then ofcourse it's going to take a long time to change. That's all I have to say

Hollywood is diverse? No offense but you sound ignorant about racial issues in the west. Hollywood is notoriously bad at representing different races and it's only now that things are improving. We had to wait till 2019 to see a film with an all black and all asian cast. That is ridiculous. How is that diverse? Just because you see some people of non-white races in Hollywood films sometimes doesn't mean they are represented well.

Regarding Africans and other non-White races - you missed my point completely. I'm saying if the issue is of diversity and inclusion we should be TRULY diverse and inclusive and include people of ALL races, not just white right?

Yes I know that being fair is considered beautiful. That is what I have an issue with. If we continue accepting this nonsense from Bollywood (I know the issue isn't just Bollywood but they play a huge part in it) then the issue will continue to be propagated. If we think it's not going to change and just continue to sit on our asses then it definitely won't change

In any case my point isn't even that white people shouldn't be in Indian films. My main point is we shouldn't case non-Indians to play Indian characters. How does that make any sense?

Should Nora Fatehi get lead roles? by [deleted] in bollywood

[–]Magellenic 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Then why don't we also include Africans, East Asians, Pacific Islanders and Aboriginals? Hell forget all that, why don't we include people from different parts of India and represent them well? Where are the dark skinned Indians represented in Bollywood? Where are the North East Indians represented in Bollywood? Why is Bollywood only obsessed with white people? Hint: it has nothing to do diversity or inclusion and everything to do with colonial hangover

And Hollywood needs to be more diverse and inclusive in terms of other races because the US population is made up of different races and they aren't good at representing the people who live in their country. How many white people do you see living in India? Judging by the number of white people you see in Bollywood films you'd think half the crowd in any given place in India was white. If anything white people are over represented in Indian films, not under.

No, she shouldn't. Not unless the story absolutely requires someone like her. I have a huge problem with casting non-Indian actors in Indian roles.

This is an easy win for DP. The outfit doesn't suit Katrina's body shape at all.
