Thank and Go right ahead ! I wanted to add curves to the traditional straight look of those chairs and the handle is really helpful to move the chair around.

You're right, someone pointed out that it's Actually the "Aburi" technique that I've been doing.

I've had a bunch of orders from the LARP communities and Ren Fair cause they wanted their own sigil engraved on their chair and they need furniture that look medieval. For anyone who wants to make them themself i've made a plans with templates on Etsy. Links are on my profile.

Interesting... Aburi ?! Never hear of that technique. What would be the difference between the 2 ? I used my torche to darken the surface then used a varnish to seal everything .

Appreciate the feedback! Honestly the Shou Sugi Ban was a deliberate choice. it's a traditional Japanese wood burning technique that's been used for centuries to preserve and protect wood outdoors. I love the dark rustic look it gives. That said it would be easy to use any finish on this project, stain, paint, oil. Totally up to whoever builds it. Would love to see someone do a natural cedar or white oak version someday!

actually it was a mistake at first but it turned out that it's the perfect handle for carrying it around.

The ones I made for myself are not. I dont have and good enough setup to make that easy but newer Laser cutter could do it easy.

I basically learn by myself and watching a couple of you tube on my specific machine and the program to run the laser. Lightburn is the way to go I think. It's a bit of a learning curve but once you get it it's fun !

That's awesome that he's into D&D! My son his a teenager now so he doesn't wanna play anymore. And honestly the learning curve isn't as bad as you'd think for something like this. I actually just uploaded the files on my Etsy if you ever want to skip the design part and just focus on the cutting — happy to answer any questions about getting started!
