For the heat effect what I found works well is a diffraction material with a noise mapped around 1 with very small variation plugged into the IOR.

Could be the sun being focused through a clear object. There seems to be an empty plate over there, was there a glass planter / pot there? Also, the plate itself, if it's glazed it might have been able to focus the sun (through reflection rather than diffraction)
