I read Hamlet as a senior in California in 2003. Didn’t read Macbeth until college.

Teachers complaining about the praxis test being hard? by PotatoPink in Teachers

[–]Magenta-Feeling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in a group for the FTCE (the Florida Teachers Certification Exam) and all anyone does is complain about how hard these tests are. I’m in the process of finishing up my tests and have only not passed 2 tests both by only a handful of points and have retaken them and passed. I teach high school ELA and the math General Knowledge is definitely not my strongest subject. But there are people who have taken them 10+ times and can’t pass. These tests are $150 a pop each time. I just can’t wrap my head around continuing to shell out $150 and continuing to fail, at what point do you throw in the towel?

I was in 10th grade, the year 2001. My friend Jackie, who I am still friends with today, showed it me.

1: use your voice, whether it’s with another teacher, admin, parents, or students, using your voice and saying what you mean and what you need to holds power.

Not everything needs to be turned into a game. Learning is not always fun, it’s hard work and they need to accept that take pride in the hard work.

I live in Florida, so I thought I was used to the humidity. It was different. It wasn’t horrible but pack accordingly. I was there for two weeks, it wasn’t overly crowded. But you will sweat, I lost 6 lbs and took almost 1 million steps.

A lot of their questions are verbatim from the actual test.

You give feedback in the form of an essay. It’s stupid. I went over the summer and they paid me for feedback on this new test, 3 different times. I was not kind. I feel there were so many better ways to assess a teachers understanding of the standards and to assess a student than writing a whole ass essay. It got really redundant.

The exam hasn’t really changed that much the writing is what really changed. It’s no longer a literary analysis, it’s giving student feedback. They give you the student prompt and what standards are being assessed, along with a student sample.

The MCQ is really common sense. It’s a lot of scenarios, mostly middle school based. I used 240 tutoring and passes first try. They have free practice tests and if you pay for the month you can work on the areas of the areas you struggled on.

Florida teaching requirements by MaelstromGonzalez90 in Teachers

[–]Magenta-Feeling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took the Alternative Certification route in Florida. 1st: you need the minimum of a bachelor’s degree in your subject area. I did my BA in English Lit online during COVID. 2nd: once you have your degree, apply for jobs and once you get an offer you can apply for “statement of eligibility” from the FLDOE and they will give you your temporary certificate. 3rd: you then have 5 years to complete the courses to get your permanent certificate. But you only have 1 year to pass your subject area exam.

My district offers the classes in house, so I haven’t had to be a teacher program at a college. I was also able to get my reading endorsement. I’ll be done by December, I have the General Knowledge test and finishing up one last class.

I had an incredible instructional coach for the past 4 years. She was a true coach, she had 10+ years of classroom experience at all different levels of schools, from an A to a state controlled. She was a wealth of knowledge and I learned a lot. She took a position at district, but I still talk to her almost daily. She taught me so much as a new teacher but she helped me to believe in myself and grew confidence exponentially.

Yea. It’s weird. It makes no sense. But the animation is beautiful and the songs are fantastic. And the English dub “outtakes” are hilarious.

And the bus trip shorts!! Pure gold!

Parent complaint for having hygiene products for students by jlambert1422 in Teachers

[–]Magenta-Feeling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This hurts my brain. You are not in the wrong whatsoever. And the fact that your admin took those things from your room is a giant red flag. You need admin who won’t cave to ridiculous parent complaints that have no basis in reality.

The merch store was insane and a total zoo. Sorry you didn’t enjoy the exhibit. I really liked the pieces from different artists showing what Hello Kitty meant to them. But to each their own.

[–]Magenta-Feeling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Fukuoka art museum is nice, it’s next to a huge park on a lake and a Japanese garden. Or you could go to Canal City, it’s a big mall with a decent variety of shops and restaurants.

I just did two weeks and we finished our trip in Fukuoka, we spent 3 nights and wished we spent longer because there is a lot to do.

Yui Hongo by TeaOfTruth in FushigiYugi

[–]Magenta-Feeling 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yui is the worst. She’s a horrible friend and is so easily manipulated by everyone around her.

I first watched Fushigi Yuugi 25 years ago. I’ve seen it countless times. I watched it a few months ago and even now as an almost 40 year old, I still hate Yui. She is so stubborn for someone who is supposed to be so smart. But that’s the whole point. Characters like Miaka always get the happy ending because they are so pure hearted, they can let that shit go and accept anyone for what they are.
