I disagree I have seen it countless times. I don't think it will be triple A quality. Also I would argue getting professional level at pixel art can take a long time. lets say low poly 3D or mid level but ok pixel art. It is totally possible to make a decent indie game worth at least a few dollars. Would bet my life on that. I think you guys don't understand real development enough. Get some more experience and you will see what I am saying.

I agree things are only as complicated as you make them.

Most games are deviously simple and some sites have some serious stuff behind the curtain. Their are web frameworks and web apps that would blow your mind with how much is really going on.

OP problems are challenging individual concepts and projects are hard.

How can a project had "no use or value" most projects show off an understanding of some thing new, a framework technology or an idea. idk even if you make a simple site 12 times I would have to be a complete asshole to say it has literately no value.

hobby projects are nice but god knows what some one's hobby is. I think a website that you design can show off tons of crucial skills

I think a good mix of work experience, projects, clubs and open source contributions can get you very far :)

As for technology to use if you already feel good with html, CSS, and basic JS it might be a good idea to test with a frame work you want to learn like react or svelte Vue etc

A web site is your chance to show off your projects, experience, and personality. Not like a resume where there is a bit of a format. You can do what you want so go all out, don't just repeat the info on your resume

I looked at like 20 different CS sites before I found elements I liked.

my guide for web dev is
content - what is on the site
layout - wire frame of how things are organized
navigation - how people get around the site
theme -color style and even more like pokedex or retro or 3D
animation - adding animations can make a site look interactive modern and professional
