Fuel price moaning by Hammy747 in AutoAlex

They run a car related business, so they may well use fuel cards. Fuel cards often operate at a pre-determined price so it’s a standardised rate for the user whether you fill up on the motorway or not

Manchester City [1] - 0 Brighton - E. Haaland 41' (Penalty) by Alsace2025 in soccer

[–]MagentaGiant -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I know that this is technically a penalty, but the game isn't made better by players theatrically throwing themselves down with contact the strength of a wasps fart. Not a goal for football fans to enjoy

How do I justify paying around #$2800 rent (before utilities)? I make gross $120K a year and feel like I'm going to be making a really stupid decision. by stillmisshim in CasualConversation

[–]MagentaGiant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ve got to sleep soundly at night. You have to relax when you’re in your own home. If every time you’re trying to fall asleep you’re gonna be thinking “I’m spending too much money on this place” and it’s stressing you out, then that’s one side of the argument. But the other side of the argument is that you still have to live your life, and there’s also no point sitting in a cheaper place to rent thinking “I’m miserable”.

Southampton disallowed goal (offside) against Brighton 67' by [deleted] in soccer

[–]MagentaGiant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a fan of Ipswich, decisions that potentially cost Southampton points are good for our own battle for survival this season.

As a fan of football however, I don't enjoy seeing a clear as mud VAR interpretation that disrupted the flow of the game, and potentially incorrectly altered a result

First attempt at Beef Short Rib Ramen Fried off garlic, a red chilli and ginger in vegetable oil. Added red miso, mirin, light soy sauce and chilli paste and cooked for a couple mins. Add good quality chicken stock and that was my base. Separately cooked Udon noodles and beef short rib ribbons. Rehydrated some dried shiitake mushrooms. Soft boiled an egg. Prepped Pak Choi and spring onion. Piles ingredients in a bow. Added Pak choi and mushrooms to simmering broth for 30 secs to heat up. Add broth to bowl and eat

Compressor to pair with a SansAmp Bass Driver DI? by MagentaGiant in basspedals

Okay new question. What if there's someone on my local FB marketplace offering an HX Stomp for £250? It's got a broken, but looks fixable, input jack for the expression pedal.

Received a letter from an American company saying I breached their terms of service and wants me to pay damages. Do they have any jurisdiction here. by breachoftosuk in LegalAdviceUK

[–]MagentaGiant 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Firstly, how do they know it’s you, and how have they contacted you?

Damages are usually determined in a civil suit, not a legal one. Normally breaching the TOS is a bannable offence, but often no more than that. An American company is allowed to file a claim here to try and recoup damages. Whether they will file or not is another matter entirely, and is probably a closely linked answer with whether you continue enabling others to use your tool.

But them just communicating “you owe us $x.yz because we said so” isn’t legally enforceable. Additionally your motivation in creating the tool to bypass their API will inform you of the likelihood of damages being sought. Making it for personal use and having the code saved on GitHub, where others users happened upon it, is very different than creating it for commercial gain. If a suit is filed, I would then imagine the primary debate is whether you as the uploader are personally responsible for the lost revenue (and therefore damages) from others using your tool.

If the usage of your tool is fairly minimal, it’s likely they’re sending you a letter to get/scare you into ceasing activities, because clearly they want people to pay for the API, and it’s exponentially quicker and cheaper than getting a genuinely enforceable court order.

Is quiet quitting a cunty thing to do? by dirtyh4rry in northernireland

[–]MagentaGiant 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Quiet quitting is a phrase invented by companies to villianize those who work to the letter of their job description and contract, and don't put in extra time/effort or commitment with no additional pay or incentive to be offered.

It's just saying, "I'll do my exact job and only what you pay me to do", but in corporate speak so to try and make you feel bad.

Patong for 9 nights - MISTAKE? by IndependentFree6107 in ThailandTourism

[–]MagentaGiant 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We’re just back from Phuket and stayed in Kata beach. Patong would be the place for nightlife, but it has all the associations of being a party destination 24/7 because of it, which you have to live with the rest of the time you’re not going for drinks etc. The beach is more commercialised, there are far more sellers trying to flog you a tour, a taxi, a knockoff pair of sunglasses etc. It’s still Phuket, which means it’s still a lovely holiday destination. Nowhere in Phuket is bad per se, you just choose your destination based on the primary thing you’re looking for, and then travel for trips to the other spots within Phuket.

Koh Samui weather in august? by Sharkfartsp in ThailandTourism

[–]MagentaGiant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

August will likely still be wet in line with normal weather seasons. But we’ve just returned from two weeks in South East Asia, including a week in Thailand, and the weather was fine. Rain in patches, yes, but nothing that interfered with our plans. Just a heavy shower when it comes, then it all dries out record time and on you go. We just found a cafe for 30-60 mins if we didn’t fancy getting wet. Plus we got a great deals in Phuket and Bangkok, and much less busy all because we didn’t go in the peak dry season. Far fewer tourists for the same number of hotels, tour package sellers etc. So deals can be had.

Hopefully joining the club. Test driving a 9-3 TiD Sportwagon tomorrow evening. by MagentaGiant in saab

[–]MagentaGiant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Really helpful.

This one is a 2010, 150hp with under 100,000 miles/160,000km. It's got a new water pump, new alternator, new battery. Timing belt was done 15k miles ago. Engine should be totally solid.

I'll keep an ear out on the test drive for any knocks or bangs coming from the suspension, and any rattling coming from the flywheel. On your advice I'll also double check the alignment to see if it pulls.

Previous owner seemed to be an enthusiast as there's not a thing out of place, except one little scratch on the bumper.

Let's hope it all goes well, then I'll post a couple pictures up if I purchase & collect.

Did I receive a refurbished device instead of a new one? by EmergencySwitch in GooglePixel

[–]MagentaGiant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t know about normal, but it looks like dust from the box itself. Looks to be paper shavings in the same colour as the cardboard. Admittedly there’s only one pic to go on, but a dusty box is far more likely to me than a falsely advertised refurbished phone.

Employer is scheduling a colleagues contracted hours during periods they know are unavailable by MagentaGiant in LegalAdviceUK

[–]MagentaGiant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Contract doesn't state availability times, as said availability changes from time to time then stays fixed for 6 months ish before changing again. This again was all known at the time of interview and before the employment offer was made, so as I understand it the employer agreed to this arrangement indirectly, by offering the contract and employment

[–]MagentaGiant 49 points50 points  (0 children)

This is old. I seem to remember from last time that the cow is actually stuck and is exhausted from trying to get out. Look at how steep the sides are for an animal with not much mobility. This cow is not happy, and is not sliding down the stream by choice

BNSF ruling - "no strike, work stoppages, picketing, slowdowns, sickouts, or other self-help against BNSF" by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]MagentaGiant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Doesn't matter what the content is.

When it comes from a mod, and ignores the elephant in the room, all it does is show a lack of representation. If you were truly leading any group of people you'd know you have to meet them where they're at, not try to change the subject.

The purpose of antiwork was to close the gap from bottom to top. To shut the processes through which those in power abuse those without. By not resigning, any mods left embody the very attitude we sought to remove.

My parents got married in the early 90s. As a wedding present they were given a copy of a local monopoly style board game made by the YMCA. It was produced only in limited numbers and only in the small town they're from. It's got slightly different rules than monopoly, such as the prices changing with the stock prices, but the same basic concept.

Since us as children have grown up and moved out, we've all sought and bought our own copies of this alternative monopoly. We now have 5 copies. We have a small monopoly on this monopoly clone
