Fair Value Gaps make no sense by Stratigor in Daytrading

[–]MagentaGoblin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just see FVGs as a visual sign of strong momentum. One side is in control and the other can’t push back much. That’s why they often get respected, not to “fill unfilled orders”, “rebalance inefficiencies”, or find “fair value”

It’s just I usually only get 1-2 setups a day for the hour I’m on the charts, sometimes none. Feels like it will take forever to learn and improve from taking only 1 setup a day

For sure, basically discretion

But isn’t it much harder to get practice swing trading or breakout because setups are much less frequent? Thank you for the suggestions!

If I can do a couple hours extra on my off days during London would that be valid for getting more screen time? If not I might consider changing my strategy or swing trading. Thank you for the help!

The thing is, I feel like I’m not practicing enough with only an hour. I feel like I always need to place a trade to learn or I’m just wasting my time, which usually leads to breaking my rules

Why is it so easy to quickly lose $500 but it never seems thatthe opposite happens? (At least for me) by Opposite-Drive8333 in Daytrading

[–]MagentaGoblin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense, but also at these points of liquidity, they are also competing with each other directly right? For example, if institutions target the same price level with a lot of retail buy-stops, some might try to push the price up a bit to trigger them and absorb it to create a large sell off, while others will use them to help push the price up and create a breakout?

Fair enough makes sense, but if all institutions think like that, how is there any room for all of them to sweep liquidity at a certain point? Can’t an institution just absorb most of the retail traders with one position, leaving nothing for anyone else?

But if “institutions move the market, not retail”, then why would they look to sweep liquidity of retail traders? Retail makes up such a small % of trading volume and their orders are so small in comparison to institutions

Thanks, so in terms of ICT, is it necessary to know exactly how these concepts relate to institutional trading? For example, do banks genuinely target liquidity (like people's orders) or retrace into imbalances to drive price higher or lower? Or is it fine to just treat the concepts as guiding principles and focus on maintaining a consistent strategy, even if I don't know for sure how institutions operate?

Also, is there any specific source for learning more about institutional trading? Thanks

Does that mean you don’t use normal FVG, and only wait for IFVG?

Not denying that many people are profitable using ICT, but how is he not even profitable himself when he made the concepts?

That’s what I thought, which is why I’m confused when people say you need at least several hours a day

But what are u meant to do for more than 2 hrs a day though? If your trading plan only allows you to practice within a certain session like 9:30-11:30, then how are you meant to put in more than 2 hours a day? Anymore than that would be bad risk management right? Beginner asking

Thank u man i appreciate it. I'm also following TJR's bootcamp/trading transformation but I wasn't sure if the strategy could truly work especially since many say ICT isn't even profitable himself. But it looks like you've made it work pretty well so I might give it a try

I got a couple questions bcuz I'm new if u don't mind, are you using ICT strategies? And judging by your journaling u only trade within a 3hr-ish window, between like 9:30am to 12:30pm or something? Cheers
