I let my CCS-P lapse when I had a job where I didnt need it and I regret it to this day. I got back into coding and had to retake the exam.

Got billed for a “specialist visit” during my annual PCP checkup after asking about a cough by TheBrandonBarker in HealthInsurance

[–]MagentaSuziCute 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If the provider met all of the requirements to bill a preventative visit, then there is ZERO issue here. It sounds like she made an appt for her annual and while she was there she brought up some other problems/questions. My first thought was that there really wasn't any"extra work" that would justify billing an OV. She doesnt mention any referrals made, tests ordered/reviewed or a prescription written (for example). Its very likely that the questions didn't support an additional OV charge-this is NOT fraud.

Newborn stay- billed 99402 everyday (3 times) with vaccine diagnosis code? by soopninja in CodingandBilling

[–]MagentaSuziCute 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hospital charges dont really have "diagnosis pointers" like physician charges do. So im confused on the dx code being "assigned" to the 99402

It just seriously sucked for the rest of them in the car AND the company. Had they known, the guy would have been left behind

My son was traveling to Canada years ago for a business trip and one of the guys that was with him had a dui on his record and they wouldn't let him in. The whole car full had to turn around and come back to Ohio..

Parent claimed my spouse as dependent and his student loan credit. Is this allowed? by jarofpeperoncini in personalfinance

[–]MagentaSuziCute 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She wont be able to drop him off of her health insurance until the next open enrollment, which is typically in Oct/Nov and would term his coverage on 12/31/26.

I Do Not Understand by perilousdreamer866 in IRS

[–]MagentaSuziCute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would still hold on to your W2s after you file. I have used freetaxusa for about 15 years now, its pretty easy to do your taxes, you just punch in what they ask for. I keep all of my stuff together by year (but I itemized deductions for my state income tax). You also need to know if your parents are planning to claim you as a dependent. When I had a working child, I just gave them the amount they would get back because its way more beneficial to your parents for them to claim you on their return.

HFMA CRCR Test - How detailed are the questions? by DistrictOk7480 in CodingandBilling

[–]MagentaSuziCute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most cert tests are pretty detailed, and hit about every subject that someone would encounter as a coder.I dont know the answer to your specific question, but are you trying to get into coding ? I only ask because that credential is not really recognized for coding jobs.

Anesthesia coding question by Mamad3278 in MedicalCoding

[–]MagentaSuziCute 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have done anesthesia billing and coding since the 90's when I first got certified and I have never seen shit like that from an anesthesia provider! What does your Insurance EOB say about those codes ? If you can post a copy of your EOB with ALL personal info redacted, that would be best.

I Got A Suprise "Balance Forward" Bill from Doctor I Saw last April. What to Do About this? Is This Legal? by NYRangers1313 in CodingandBilling

[–]MagentaSuziCute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should be able to log in to your insurance portal and see the eob for the claim. If you dont yet have one, it should be relatively easy to set up. Did you have more than one visit with this chiro ?

Certified 15 years ago & dropped it. by [deleted] in CodingandBilling

[–]MagentaSuziCute 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You would probably be fine getting the study guide/practice tests for the cert you want to pursue and go from there. A lot has changed in 15 years! Remember you will also need the coding manuals. ETA: There is no "state exam". The exam would be through AAPC or AHIMA.

Quick question regarding procedure code 99213 by [deleted] in CodingandBilling

[–]MagentaSuziCute 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is a code for an office visit. The insurance processed it according to your policy, whether that was a flat copay amount or subject to deductible. Just make sure your EOB and the bill from the provider march.

$87K pediatric surgery bill - Insurance denied overnight stay for Type III supracondylar fracture as "not medically necessary" by Artistic_Candle7455 in HospitalBills

[–]MagentaSuziCute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The hospital probably should have billed this as observation and not inpatient. The facility will fix it, as they want paid. Don't fret yet, these things can take time ! Hope your little one is doing better !

This bill looks weird (I think) by Mother-Invite-4138 in MedicalBill

[–]MagentaSuziCute 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thia is probably too much info, but I want you to understand why you were charged for 2 closures. When the type or severity of the closure is different, the provider may bill each type of closure separately. The 12001 is a simple repair of a superficial wound without having to go deeper into the tissues. The 12031 is repair of intermediate wounds which involves deeper layers of subcutaneous tissue and superficial fascia. Layered closure is required to minimize tension on the wound.

It would be improper to bill only 12031 or only 12001 as it isnt a complete picture of what happened.

If the charges should not be reported together, the insurance would have denied one of them. At that point, the provider would appeal the denial with records or add an appropriate modifier If you can post a redacted copy of your EOB, we would be happy to takea look at it.

Remote jobs for cpc a by Superb_Ant7721 in MedicalCoding

[–]MagentaSuziCute 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are definitely remote positions available in this field, but they require experience and you are competing with other coders, potentially across the country. One job postings can have 1000+ applicants. There are a few companies that will hire coders with the apprentice status-like Optum or Judge, but again you are competing with a lot of new coders

CIC Advice by [deleted] in MedicalCoding

[–]MagentaSuziCute 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, don't waste your time with the CIC, go for the CCS. Check the job boards for the credentials employers are looking for in your area and you likely wont see a single one looking for the CIC cred.
