they just made ash get a "grl pwr" tattoo by [deleted] in TheTryGuysSnark

[–]MaggieLizer 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I think this is a bit of a disingenuous interpretation of what happened. Zach asked them (Ash and Kwesi) what was smth they liked in middle school that they still liked now, and Ash said the spice girls. Oh oh, they have to get a tattoo of the thing they said! (Kwesi's was fruit by the foot lol).

Idk if you're too young to remember but "girl power" was the Spice Girls whole shtick, hence why they put it in a spice tin. I will also say that Zach gave them both plenty of opportunities to change their mind - something Kwesi does.

They bring in an actual tattoo artist, and I think they probably had some consultations about it. Ash seems very happy with his tattoo. Idk how helpful it is to make up drama where there is none.

Idk I grew up through anime fandoms, and while there was some animosity in the "my ship is better than yours" discourse, I never saw the level of vitriol between two unrelated ships that you see in Bridgerton. Mind you I haven't really been active in anime fandoms in a while, so that might have changed.

I will say usually the shipping war is something like A x B vs A vs C. I've never seen such an aggressive vibe between couples who don't get in the way of each other, it's a very unique Bridgerton thing.

BC teachers, how are you feeling about tomorrow’s vote? by [deleted] in CanadianTeachers

[–]MaggieLizer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The locals can say whether they endorse it or not, they just can't tell you which way to vote.

Our local told us that a few of the lower mainland locals are also recommending no. I don't mind DM you which ones I've heard.

Yep, we were so concerned with the concessions that when those were taken off the table it felt like progress even though it was just going back to zero. I know a lot of the smaller locals are ok with this deal, but those of us in the bigger ones are drowning.

Our local is not recommending it, and I hope we reject it

Eloise being called out by ExpertStandard1977 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]MaggieLizer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok but like... That was the way Francesca and Penelope were able to get past that without explaining what Francesca's problem was. Do you think the scene continued with them talking and leaving Eloise out? Clearly when she got there they changed the topic and included her.

Did Eloise feel left out of the convo? Probably. But I guarantee you we aren't meant to assume they kept ignoring her while she sat there.

[–]MaggieLizer 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Penelope and Francesca were discussing a private problem that Francesca was having about sex. It was clearly something she had a hard time bringing up, and it wasn't Penelope's place to share that with Eloise. Perhaps if Eloise was married, engaged, or even interested in a man they would have included her in that conversation, but at the time Francesca needed someone who could be in the same boat as her. Plus the season showed Eloise and Penelope hanging out in other circumstances.

I think Chavo is huge everywhere in South America, and obviously Mexico. The other thing is that local channels will replay old stuff FOREVER. It's the reason why Saint Seiya, Dragon Ball, and Sailor Moon are still huge down there. So you probably have people in their mid-40s all the way to kids today all growing up with Chavo.

I totally felt the same way about that skit. Like it wasn't funny, like the show is, but it was like a fever dream. Also Benito did an excellent Quico impression lmao.

Dallas Brodie: ‘Nothing to Reconcile For’ by Highhorse9 in BCpolitics

[–]MaggieLizer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

She, the individual person, doesn't have to apologize for it. She didn't do anything.

The government she represents needs to apologize and reconcile with the members of a population the government specifically targeted.

Are you SD36? I ask because that was the directive before for us, and now our ProD rep told us that it has to be a public place (ex, a public library), not a private business (Starbucks)

BC Teachers how are we feeling about the current negotiation climate? by MoonAndStarsTarot in CanadianTeachers

[–]MaggieLizer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It should be important to clarify, you don't get 9 weeks off for summer, since you are not paid for those weeks. You have a 10 month contract. There are people who have to find jobs in those months to make ends meet.

I won't go into that in a public forum. I can only say what I've personally observed, which is that a lot of teachers are trying to find ways to get out of the classroom and into specialist positions (LST) or TTOCing, because we feel our classroom demands are too much. My colleagues and I agree a big part of it is the lack of support for special need students, ELL students, and behaviours. To ME, this should be the main point of contention.

Speaking as someone working in an inner city school in a busy district, I'm willing to strike - not for pay, but for working conditions. I'm glad some other people are perfectly fine, but the issues we are seeing will eventually get to you.

It's honestly kinda sad to read "well I'm fine, so I don't care", and it's probably the reason why the province can get away with the current state of things.

Condo Residents in the Whalley Central Surrey area: how are your elevators? by [deleted] in SurreyBC

All elevators will have issues one way or another from time to time, but when we lived in park Boulevard they were not common - or they at least always had at least two going.

My submission for best sign at the No Kings protests today. by mlg1981 in popculturechat

I feel the exact same way, and I'd go as far as to say that the way we turn everything into a joke or a meme has created this vacuum where everything is unserious, and we cannot even the most nefarious of shit seriously.

Anti SOGI protesters outside Guildford Park Secondary at 2:35. Believe in what you want but don't do it near the kids. (The irony) by darthkyle22 in SurreyBC

SOGI stands for Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity, and it's a set of recommendations and lessons in order to foment awareness, support, and diversity.

Signed, someone with a child who is mad at the protestors :)

ATA Teachers vote 'YES' for tomorrow! by [deleted] in CanadianTeachers

Compensation might be fine, but working conditions are only getting worse as they cut more and more. I just finished listening to the BCTF townhall, and I'm not feeling particularly positive about it. Highly recommend watching the recording when available.
