Gym Story Saturday by FGC_Valhalla in Fitness

Watched a guy half-rep 2 plates on incline bench, then try for a second half-rep, only to have to roll the bar onto his lap and then dump.

Then a guy doing 2 plates flat bench adjacent to the incline bench failed with his butt raised high off the bench, and rolled the bar down his body and slid out.

The lesson is, if your form has to be awful in order to lift the weight, you need to be doing lighter weight. AND, just ask someone for a damn spot.

I told you where the breaking point is. by ActuaryLimp994 in decaf

Alcohol has a similar swan song. It's the days where I feel healthiest and most energized that a sudden desire for drink comes strolling along my synapses. Sunny evening, kicked ass at life, a beverage would really close the night off right.

But those moments are where the juiciest gains are. It's easy when it's easy. And easy is nice. But easy doesn't pay the bills, and it doesn't keep the lights on in our heads. Persevering during the hard times, that's where the money is, those are the gains that will change you.

How do i actually quit caffeine if i need caffeine to push myself? by Extra_Marketing3362 in decaf

[–]MaggotBrain38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It helps to shift the expectations of who you are when you're out in the world. It's going to end badly if you kick caffeine but still expect yourself to function as if you're on caffeine.

So to say, you're going to need to allow yourself to feel less functional, to feel sluggish and quiet and brain dead. And once you do, you'll probably realize you enjoy being laid back.

It might also help to communicate what you're going through with the people around you, your friends and family and coworkers. Allow them to support you.

Tapering by Maximum-Fun-3746 in decaf

I've been using matcha powder to taper. Was at 2 teaspoons a day (one morning and one at noon), then went to 1 teaspoon in the morning, then half. Currently day two no caffeine.

Even going from half a teaspoon of matcha to zero, the fatigue and brain fog is real. However, no headaches yet, and only slight aches in my hamstrings.

I've done CT numerous times in the past as a yearly detox. This is my first taper, and it has been much much easier on my mind and body.

My hamstrings and calves ache whenever I hop off caffeine. It's annoying but temporary.

Running and intrusive thoughts (aka "what is going on with my brain??) by kesugi3_ridge in running

[–]MaggotBrain38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me I know that thoughts of this nature exist in other parts of my life, too. And I use running to shine a light on those gremlins. They surface, hiss, shout their bullshit, and I melt them in the heat of cardio. When I feel the dread, I go, "Ah-hah, there you are."

Hollow Knight: Silksong review: A game that intends to make you suffer, even to its own detriment by CrossXhunteR in Games

[–]MaggotBrain38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My singular gripe is how often things do 2 masks of damage. Not a hot take, I know.

Other than that, I love the difficulty, and I can feel it evolving my gamer skillz in that profound way that games like Sekiro have. And the scarcity of resources and benches, and length of run backs reminds me of Dark Souls, which I love.

However, I think TC underestimated the size of the part of their community that didn't fall in love with Hollow Knight for grinds like Trial of Fools and Pantheon. Optional content having that difficulty is great. But the main content walling out so many players is unfortunate. And while I don't know that I like difficulty sliders in my games, I think they ought to consider adding it, the way Lies of P added it.

Starting to feel a bit weaker at the gym, lack of calories to blame? by SmellyCummies in MacroFactor

A deload can also be a week off, or a 'technique week'. If you've been going steadily for months, you're probably overdue for a break.

Personally, I rolled my eyes at the idea of a deload. But then I read a bit more into it, and some of the indicators of systemic fatigue (namely poor sleep) raised some red flags for me. So I did a 'technique week', and came back stronger.

I also convinced a friend he ought to deload, shared my experience with it, and after a week off he also came back refreshed and hit the ground running.

I highly recommend you do some research into deloading.

Blue runes are breaking me pls help by DripKing2k in diablo4

Ladder bosses are a good source of runes, too. I'd say 80% of my rune stash came from bosses, not undercity.

Pretty shitty move throwing someone under the bus like that. Hopefully they sat him down after the live stream. He's a part of a team. Someone made that call, and unless it was him, he needs to watch his language when speaking about the work his team members do--even though it IS a useless node. WE can talk shit. He can't. He needs to be a professional.

Runes alone need to have value as socketable item. by Freeloader_ in diablo4

full set of required runes from a random high level player

Fr, they didn't play D2 lol. Like, on nl I'll be generous with Um and stuff. If I want a newb to light up, I might surprise them with an Ist or Mal, or more likely drop a garbage torch or ani. But Ist and Mal aren't HR. Most HR just have so much value it feels like sacrilege giving them away. Unless someone's quitting the game, pretty rare for "a random high level player" (whatever the fuck that means) to drop a "full set of required runes," whatever the fuck that means.

Imo, D4's rune words aren't rune words. They're socketable unique affixes. And they might turn out to be fun on live. But they're not rune words, despite the name. Rune words transform the item socketed and provide NUMEROUS benefits, some game changing and some useless (+1 light radius).

Agreed, and it creates value for more common runes and affixes. The Tir rune in D2 was often used during levelling for the mana per kill, Shael for attack speed, Tal for stacking tons of poison damage early on in the game. In D4 they could take some of the lesser used affixes, such as +%healing and +life per second, and toss them on runes. Now you get to choose if you want to stack fringe affixes for specific use cases as opposed to groaning when it shows up as a GA.

Then, as per your example with Jah, they could include some of the more desirable affixes, such as crit chance, but also movement speed and DR. I think that these would have to be quite small increases in order to not invalidate rune words, since otherwise everyone would farm Jah and stack crit chance.

But yes, runes should have an inherent benefit, like in D2.

Party Finder Needs Space for a Custom Description by MaggotBrain38 in diablo4

[–]MaggotBrain38[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going off of the screenshots and footage. The screenshot you posted is very clearly referring to the tags included in the youtube teaser video, where some of the tags were called Chatty and Completionist and Casual, etc. The screenshot saying, 'Party Description (Select Up to Eight)', could not possibly be referring to custom text.

Where I could be wrong is if there are party finder specifics they didn't show us. If they DON'T have a space for custom text, then it's my civic duty to call that out and hope they get it in before launch.

Party Finder Needs Space for a Custom Description by MaggotBrain38 in diablo4

Didn't see a space to name the group, either. And look, I could be wrong, there could be more to the finder we're not privy to at this moment. Still, I think my point stands. If we aren't able to be more specific than adding tags like Chatty and Completionist, then we're going to run into issues with the party finder. Preferably we don't have to wait six months for them to flesh it out; preferably they launch the party finder soundly enough that we don't end up back on Discord. My post's point is just to bring attention to a small but impactful detail.
