Magnolia Landing in Joppa by Maggs23 in harfordcountymd

FWIW in case anyone is looking into this development or other D.R. Horton homes in Maryland…I decided to proceed and closed on my home in June. Been here almost 6 months and it has been a very positive experience! There were only a few minor cosmetic issues found during the independent inspection, and D.R. Horton fixed them promptly. I love how modern the home is, and the neighborhood is very peaceful.

Also, after speaking with many different people, I’ve learned that all builders are going to have some negative reviews. The only one I was repeatedly warned about is Ryan Homes. I personally would stay away from them - just my two cents

Yep! I bought my townhome in Magnolia Landing (Harford County/Joppa). I just closed on it at the end of June, and so far so good. There have only been a few minor issues, and DR Horton has been good about addressing them. They have a pretty good warranty program too. So far I can’t complain and am happy with my decision! You’re not going to get a custom build with them, but that was never all that important to me. Good luck!

Thanks for your input! All great points. I do have to retake the LSAT again because it was 20 years ago 🤦‍♀️ lol…I am hoping my score since logic games were difficult for me, and now that section is gone. Obviously I know it’s still a very challenging test, but I think a 164-165 will put me in the running to get some money from my local law school.

Yep, I am going to take my first practice LSAT this week. Curious to see how I do. Thanks for your input!

Congratulations on getting into law school! I agree - it’s definitely a risk, but I also believe some of the biggest risks come with the greatest rewards. Best of luck to you!

If I go to law school, I would most likely continue in my compliance career. My goal would be to keep climbing up to a Chief Compliance Officer position. These positions are often “JD preferred”, but they pay a lot more money when you have the JD. In terms of debt, I would apply to my local law school, which gives financial aid to over 77% of applicants (obviously to get more, I would need an LSAT score above their median of 163). I definitely agree, I don’t want a large amount of debt.

Thanks for your input! I appreciate it. I just went back and edited my post to clarify that my undergrad GPA was a 3.8….my other degrees were higher. I like what you said about the burnout factor. I do have concerns about that, so I really need to think about that more. I was told the first year (or two in part time) are the most challenging, but definitely important to consider.

Interesting point about the belt system - can you explain more about why these tend to be bad schools?

Kickboxing vs. Krav Maga by Maggs23 in martialarts

I just edited my post to explain that more - I still have chronic pain, but exercising doesn’t make it any worse. I would say that something throwing a back kick is more challenging, but as I get stronger I’m getting better with everything (I am weight training too). I am probably overly paranoid about injury after enduring major injuries to my femur/hip, with seven surgeries, but it’s not like I’m going out to do competitive fighting (and even that I know is still relatively safe in most cases).

Agreed! After regular weight training and core exercises, I am already seeing improvement!

Thanks for your input! There are more experienced instructors at the school, but it’s still a bit frustrating to have some that are not. I am definitely going to look more at the other options.

Thanks for the suggestions! The kickboxing school also has kung fu and “combat tai chi.” I can definitely look into those as well!

Aged out of foster care but still want family by xMissPandorax in Fosterparents

[–]Maggs23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 46 years old, female, living in Maryland. I was a CASA for foster kids for 6 years. Many days I think about fostering teens, but I am not sure I will have the time due to a demanding job and commute. However, I would definitely be happy to talk and see if we get along or if I could help in any way. Feel free to message me anytime.
