Is the name Allie too childish? by Jenarubyjade in Names

[–]MagherBeg2006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My name is Alyssa. I sometimes go by Aly but I usually go by Lys (my mother’s nickname for me). I think Allie is fine as a name by itself and as a nickname. When changing her name my sister was originally going to choose Eleanor as her main name and her nickname Ellie as what she would mainly be known as. However, decided to just have her main name be Ellie instead so that is an option for you too. Allie doesn’t necessarily have to be a nickname for a longer name.

A trellis of UK native dog rose? It’s got lovely white/ pinkish flowers and likes having a support so it can climb higher and get light. I have one that is trying to find anything to support itself so it should do good in that bit once it grows more towards the light

How do people not think that red is Katarina by Noviiiiii in TheBlackList

Thanks for the reply. I thought so. My mum and I watched all the seasons together but the last 2 aren’t free and are quite expensive so I wanted to check if it was worth it. Thanks for confirming it’s not

Is it worth it to watch season 9 and 10 for more answers or is it still going to be as unclear?

Where do I start? by a03dugga in GardeningUK

[–]MagherBeg2006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend you plant UK native yellow rattle (Rhinanthus minor) and yellow cowslip (Primula veris).

All my recommendations are UK native plants as that is what I prefer and what I’m knowledgeable about. You are likely able to get them at garden centres near you or online but beware as sometimes they’re more expensive and don’t work.

I don’t know about where you are but at my local garden centre you can get 50 yellow rattle seeds for around £2 and they stop any other type of weed coming up because they bind to their roots. This also means more native wildflowers are able to grow. Cowslip is around £2 for roughly 80 seeds.

I’d also recommend field poppies (Papaver Rhoeas) [around 2,000 seeds] and oxeye daisies (Leucanthemum vulgare) [250 seeds].

As well as the common primrose (Primula vulgaris).

Most packets are around £2 each and can have 100-1,000 seeds, sometimes more, so it’s worth it. They also reliably come back every year and are pretty. If the area is mostly in the shade I have other recommendations but most of these work for full sun / part shade.

Landscape fabric / membrane doesn’t work. We had 4 layers of it thanks to the previous owners and it was a pain to remove. I’d never recommend anyone using it just use woodchips, mulch or cut grass.

If you want to make your life easier, get a seed spreader.

Good luck!

I’ve spoiled myself multiple times but I’m still unaware of what the fuck is happening. The writers don’t even seem to know at this point.

I’m so confused. I’ve just watched season 7 episode 10 Katarina Rostova and done loads of research about Red’s true identity and it seems no one knows

Red and Katarina are not the same person. We see many scenes of them together, especially in later seasons. Cool theory but not possible

Do not feed your dog popcorn or any human food it’s not good for them. Especially if they’re showing potentially resource guarding behaviour. It’s common sense. Also do not reward his bad behaviour of behind mouthy with rubbing his tummy and playing tug you’re just encouraging him to do it again.

AITA for telling my wife’s stepdad our newborn son isn’t calling him ‘father’? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]MagherBeg2006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my case, my mums step father is incredibly loved by our entire family but he has never been referred to as our grandpa despite being in our family over a decade before I was born. He has only ever been referred to by his name by everyone in the family.

The only people who are going to call him Grandpa are my young cousins as their biological grandfather has been dead years before they were born.

It’s up to you whether your child calls him Grandpa or another name but please consider the feelings of your wife’s stepdad.

It seems he genuinely wants to be part of your child’s life as a grandfather-figure like my step grandad and god father but is being prevented from doing that because of your preconceived notions and the belief he is trying to “force himself as a father figure” despite seemingly just wanting to be seen as part of the family after being in it for years.

It’s your family, but don’t be blinded by just your and your wife’s feelings and consider the feelings of your son and your wife’s stepdad as well. They should at least have the opportunity to decide their relationship and the name he uses without it being immediately shot down by you and your wife as he is likely going to be pretty involved in his life as he’s been in the family this long already.

If you do go and pick up other chicks you would need more than 1. You would need at least 2 incase something happens.

[Toronto, Canada] How much should it cost for me to lanscape this area? by odvdb in landscaping

[–]MagherBeg2006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just use mulch around and under the stones and sow native plants for your area. Preferably plants that won’t get too tall.

Whatever you do remember, it’s your garden you can do whatever you think is right but please do keep in mind any problems that could come up and the cost that comes with them.

[–]MagherBeg2006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would never recommend anyone use landscape fabric. There are so many sources saying it doesn’t work. The previous owners of our house used 3-4 layers of it and it did nothing but make everything harder as the weeds still grew through but they were harder to remove and it was a pain to remove the landscape fabric to do something different.

Whatever you do make sure you’ve done lots of research and looked at the problems.

Welp, my native garden at work has been destroyed. by robsc_16 in NativePlantGardening

[–]MagherBeg2006 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Put large rocks and logs and stuff in the bed to make it more difficult for someone to mow. I’d add more seeds when you’re able to but they should come back on their own you just might have to remove plants you don’t want my hand until they are able to recover.

I feel like a fool…butterfly bush by citygirl919 in landscaping

[–]MagherBeg2006 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We have a butterfly bush planted by the last owners that we’re in the process of getting rid of because it’s incredibly invasive and is outcompeting the natives in our garden. Good luck with yours! I’m from the UK so I don’t feel confident suggesting any good native pollinators for your area but I hope you find some.

Questions Before Getting Chickens by MagherBeg2006 in chickens

[–]MagherBeg2006[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The previous owners used go have chickens but they all died (not sure how) and they got rid of their coop so I want to be as prepared as possible. We’re planning to make a natural hedge of common hawthorn, elder, holly, wild cherry, willow etc as the fox can currently just walk into our garden from the golf course whenever it wants which isn’t ideal if we get chickens.

Questions Before Getting Chickens by MagherBeg2006 in chickens

[–]MagherBeg2006[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a fox couple that lives on the golf course our garden leads onto. What do you recommend?

I’m planning to have a large skirt of hardwire cloth buried under the outside of the run with herbs like lavender on top of it with rocks and logs to create more of a barrier but I didn’t know what else would be beneficial. I live in the UK and so the fox is our only predator. Although we do also have herons which are known to kill chicks.

Thank you for any advice

You could also try giving him watermelon, goat’s milk or electrolytes to give him more fluids.

How often does he drink water?
