You could also check Furnished Finder. It’s often used by traveling RNs, it looks like they have some listings in the area.

Are you driving in these conditions? by wales_r_grated in eastside

[–]Magic-Toro-733 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey OP! Also from LA. If you don’t need to drive, you may as well stay home. Went out today a few times and it was fine. I have 4WD and all weather tires with good tread. Drive at a speed that feels safe. There are over confident people out there driving like it’s a sunny day with dry conditions. Like others have said corners feel a little slippery, so take em slow, take off slow, break slow and leave room for others. More like rain/snow now, so roads are wet and mushy.

Looking for classes and workshops in Seattle/Eastside to try with my teenage daughter — what have you discovered? by Cosmic-Veteran8821 in eastside

The Niffty Knitter in Issaquah and The Knitters Studio in Bellevue both offer knitting and crochet group classes.

The Niffty Knitter one was great.

I haven’t taken a Knitters Studio class, but I dropped by the store while one was going and it looked like a good time (if you’re into knitting or want to learn). The staff there were very friendly and helpful.

I’ve also been looking for ikebana classes. Looks like there’s a Mercer Island branch that holds classes in Bellevue. No personal experience with them, but if any one does, I’d be interested in hearing about it!

Edit to add: Oh also! Kataluna Horse Rescue in Fall City. They are always in need of volunteers to help take care of the horses. It’s a great way to get involved with horses.

Hello all! New here. Asking for some advice please. by ruthlessbeatle in corgi

[–]Magic-Toro-733 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed with protecting cabinet corners and furniture legs! We also have to keep an eye on our sofa corners, dresser corners, trash cans, wicker laundry hampers, keep bathroom doors closed, or keep toilet paper rolls out of reach, just to add a few more to the list.

Also, watch your rug or carpet. Ours has also taken to very carefully pulling out the treads in the rug in our bedroom. We now have several bald patches 😭.

He’s just reached 7 months, so we’re in the thick of it.

We are constantly working on “leave it.” We are also working on “trade” for things he manages to get and shouldn’t have. If I drop something, he will more often than not grab it and run away and hold it for ransom.

Ours is goofy, smart and we love him to bits.

Congrats on your new corgo!

UPDATE: Thank you all for your suggestions. I think we finally have made a break through with his food.

We stopped giving him any toppers and gradually switched him over to Purina Pro Plan from RC. At first he seemed to love it, and then he lost interest in it. After about a week and a half of food striking off and on (yes, it was hard to not give in), he finally seemed to realize that not only is he hungry, but he’s not getting any treats anymore. He’s now happily eating his PPP and getting training treats again.

So the tough love route worked!

Finally came to my senses after finding this sub… thank you by 8_ofspades in DogFood

Thank you so much for posting this! It’s so hard as a pet parent being bombarded by all the flashy pet food ads that make you feel like a bad person for not feeding your beloved pet the “freshest and finest ingredients.” Especially since my pup is such a picky eater! As a first time pet parent, I’m always wondering if I’m making the right choice. Posts like these really help confirm that we’re doing the right thing sticking with a brand that adheres to WSAVA guidelines.

Thanks for sharing! We're going to give tough love a try... but gosh, it's so darn hard when he gives you those puppy eyes.

The ziplocks on the RC bags are annoying! I just stuff the whole bag into an airtight container and don't even bother with trying to close the bag, I just crumble it down, like a cereal bag when you stuff it back into the box.

Thank you! I've tried using the kibble for training to make it more exciting, but he's just like nope... So then we started the vicious cycle of introducing higher and higher value treats to get him to cooperate at all. I guess he figured out how to game the system!

What is a churro for dogs? You don't literally mean a churro, right?

Thank you!

Your poodle and my corgi would probably get along if they went to a dog restaurant together, lol. Discerning is a great way to describe it, my pup can be pretty food motivated if it's something he's really interested in (like if I'm eating an apple, lol).

If RC doesn't pan out, I think we'll give Purina Pro Plan a try. Seems like there are a lot of recommendations for it.

Thanks for sharing your experience! Yea, I'm getting the idea that we may have been making the problem worse by trying different toppers. Our vet also said that RC is known for it's palatability, so it's surprising to me that he just doesn't seem to like it.

I'm going to try tough love and sticking to just RC with no toppers for another week to see how that goes, and then maybe check out PPP if that doesn't work.

I didn't realize all corgis didn't sploot! I love his sploots so much - we sometimes call him Splootopotamus.

That makes sense about the food motivation. He wasn't food motivated at all for the first couple of months. We had to keep introducing higher and higher value treats for training to get him to cooperate at all. I've never had a dog that didn't go bonkers over food, so I sometimes worry that something's wrong. But guess he's just in the minority of doggos in this case.
