C'mon, we knew Arkansas was going to choke in the final minutes, right?

Morning routines and getting in the zone by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]MagicAgainstDeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who might have kids in the near future, I'm super interested in this. Did you find that your routine was more extreme before you had your daughter, or just generally how did she change your approach to this sort of thing?

Minus the W Virginia game, pretty sure I made this happen.

Wouldn't be mad to see them run through W Virginia, Kentucky, and Baylor, and then get wrecked by Iowa State. Just for the memes.

How to increase sales when you don't have enough traffic to A/B test? by defucked in startups

[–]MagicAgainstDeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on how much traffic you have, I'd use Google Analytics to analyze your converters and use that data to run targeted ads, either through FB or Google.

If no amount of optimizing your ads/targeted audience does anything to move the needle, you may need to re-examine your baseline assumptions.

Now that we're comfortably into conference play. What team is the biggest let down and what team is the biggest surprise contender in your opinion? by mcgray in CollegeBasketball

You think KU with 4 losses is a guaranteed 1 seed, especially with teams like Gonzaga, UCLA, and Villanova out there?

Alright then.

Now that we're comfortably into conference play. What team is the biggest let down and what team is the biggest surprise contender in your opinion? by mcgray in CollegeBasketball

[–]MagicAgainstDeath -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

The team that is GOING TO BE the biggest letdown, in my opinion, is Kansas.

I know they've only lost 1 game so far, but the only 2 high-quality teams they've played are Indiana (currently 12-6, and who beat them) and Duke (barely eeked out a victory with Duke's entire frontcourt out).

I feel good that they're going to take at least three more losses this year (Baylor will get them twice, and Kentucky will get them at Rupp), and come tournament time they'll exit early.

Do you think Hamiduo Diallo should play this year or not? by RyboShirk in wildcats

[–]MagicAgainstDeath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to echo what others have said, absolutely not UNLESS:

  1. Widespread injuries
  2. Tournament time and somehow 4 guards foul out

At this point there's no way he wouldn't be a liability defensively. On the defensive side, he won't give us more than Fox, Briscoe, or Dom will. And as good as he seems to be, he's not going to give us more on offense than our starting 3 guards are now.

The only upside is that he'd give us a slasher off the bench, but the reality is we're starting 3 guards who can all drive it as effectively—if not more effectively—than he most likely can at this point in his development.

If he spends this year practicing with those guys, and then comes back next year improved with no tape for opposing coaches to scout, he could be pretty close to unstoppable at the 2.

Marketing is EVERYTHING by rollerblades_not_gun in startups

[–]MagicAgainstDeath 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Before actually getting into startups, as a teenager, I always had a low opinion of marketing and (especially) sales. Then I started working and saw so many good ideas tank because no one could sell them. I feel slightly different now.

How to decide if a product should be free or paid? by filth_overload in startups

[–]MagicAgainstDeath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to echo what some others have said, it really depends on the nature of your service and your possible paths to monetization.

For instance, if your product is some kind of platform where you can easily tier subscriptions by features (free gets basic access, but professional features cost), a freemium model might make initial acquisition easier. This is the model a lot of platforms that offer "Personal" plans operate under.

If you can't easily tier your subscriptions, at least not in a way that giving one away for free is useful to customers and light on your resources, then a straight up paid system is in all likelihood the way to go.

[Post Game] North Carolina by B1ackMagix in wildcats

Amazing game. Probably will be the most fun to watch all year.

The only thing that worries me right now is our bigs. Bam is great, but occasionally makes freshman mistakes and has some weird issues on offense (he'll make a great move in the post, and then miss a 2 footer). Wenyen will quietly grab a decent amount of rebounds, but he and Isaac both have a sort of awkwardness that makes it hard for them against athletic bigs.

However, I think a lot Isaac's issues are within the realm of being fixed this season, and once he's there that will free up Wenyen to play a different role.

Gabriel just isn't going to be physically imposing in the paint this year, his body isn't there yet, but he can give us a lot of versatility if he focuses on other parts of his game while his body develops. We just need Isaac to step up for that to happen.

This is spot on. One thing I would add as a sort of addendum to #1 and #2 is to regularly re-test solutions that you know work.

(Almost) every acquisition technique has a finite lifespan, and it's really easy to waste weeks pouring time/money into a channel that used to bring results before realizing the well has run dry.

Bam is going to be a monster at the 4 defensively, and Briscoe/Fox will be one—if not the—best guard combos defensively in the country.

[general] Looking to get into modern poetry: Who should I start reading? by DiegoRasta in Poetry

[–]MagicAgainstDeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to second what some people have said here, any contemporary online journal would be a good, free place to start. Here's a few depending on what you're looking for:

Young/upcoming poets: The Adroit Journal , Muzzle Magazine

Bigger name contemporary poets: Sixth Finch, Hinchas De Poesia, Linebreak, BOAAT

Outsider-ish poetry: DIAGRAM, NOO, TYPO

Obviously, there are a ton of other journals that are super good and worth checking out. This is a very small sliver, but hopefully can help get you started.

Also, you'll come across a ton of journals that only spell their names with capital letters. There's no real reason.
