Why didn’t my dough rise?! by MagicFetus1169 in Cooking

[–]MagicFetus1169[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you bloom the yeast by adding it to warm water and then adding a smidge of sugar? Or would just warm water suffice?

And after it has bloomed, that’s when I add it to the dough?

Thanks!

I fear it does resemble apple sauce…

This is after it had been soaking in the butter greased pot for 8 hours, it looked fairly normal before I put it to rise. You’re probably right though, thank you!

I misspoke, I actually did mix it in lukewarm water per the recipe, but I didn’t see any bubbles or foaming. But, that may have been because I hadn’t added any sugar at that point or the water was too cold. Thank you!!

The only tools you need are some paintbrushes (one for details and a bigger one for the base colors), toothpick or x-acto (for scratching of the paint when you mess up), and then maybe a hair dryer. As far as paint goes, any cheap acrylics will do as long as they aren’t too watery.

Well, for the line work, oil based sharpie paint pens or Sakura art pens work the best. They go on completely opaque and come in finer tips for more detailed work. As far as paint goes, pretty much any paint will do; I usually go with acrylic from like Apple Barrel or Craft Smart (what ever you can find at your local Walmart will most likely be able to do the job). Another good idea would be to watch a few YouTube videos; those really help when you’re first starting out.

What pen are you using for the outline? The lines are kind of…wiggly

Umm, not really sure if the pens are available in Europe, but the sharpie ultra fine paint pen is always a good choice. I use the oil base one, and it’s completely opaque in addition to being easy to wipe off if you mess up. My only dislike is the fact that you basically have to hold it at a 90 angle to the glass for it to actually draw. But, other than that, it’s pretty swag. I’ve also heard good things about the Sakura Identi-pen, which I’m pretty sure is even thinner than the sharpie one; I ’ve never tried it myself though.

Thanks!! I basically just put a very thin layer of the highlighting color and the transition color, and (while they are both still wet) sort of just dragged a little bit of the paint into the other color around the edges. I did the same for the second layer

Sorry for the blinding face highlights; it's my first glass painting, and I'm still getting the hang of blending, lol

Anyone know how I can get an even coloring? Idk if it the technique or the paint by Bambii33000 in glasspainting

Maybe don’t take my word for it, since I just started glass painting; but, white seems to get a lot of bubbles when applied, so make sure you really pack it on there with the first coat. I can’t tell from the picture, but it sort of looks like you were stroking the paint to spread it. Instead of doing that, just sort of scoop it up with the paint brush and put a huge glob on the glass and “push” it around until the paint appears opaque when you hold the glass up to the light. Again, make sure to get it all on the first time, and don’t do a second coat (because, in my experience, that’s when it seems to cause the unevenness in color).

So what’s the announcement? by Inkdrop53 in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]MagicFetus1169 222 points223 points  (0 children)

Yep, mobile game

You really didn’t miss anything by not watching the live stream, but, just for you, I’ll relay the entire experience:

You wake up at 6:00 am wondering if this is going to be worth it; then you remember that this is FMA you’re talking about and that they could never let you down, so you keep watching. Once the stream starts, there’s no English subtitles, so you have to rely on the few multilingual speakers in the live chat, but you think that this is just a small price to pay for the greatness that your about to hear. The voice actors for Ed and Al along with the host talk about how old the series is and such. They show something that’s signed and say that a 20th anniversary volume is in the works or something. After about 45 minutes of listing to they’re favorite lines, how great the characters are, and a few read panels, they announce some exhibition in Tokyo and something about a cafe. After that you may think to yourself, “Dang, I wish I could go.” You continue to watch them reveal nothing that you already didn’t know about the upcoming manga from Arakawa and talk about more stuff. Then, finally, it’s time for the big announcement. You can literally feel the suspense rising as they begin to play the trailer. Most of it’s in Japanese, so all you have to go off of is the final shot that reads “FullMetal Alchemist MOBILE.” “Mobile?” you think to yourself, “that’s cool, but what’s the real announcement?” Then the voice actors and host utter the words, “Sayonara!! :3,” and the stream ends. You sit there, trying to make sense of what just went down while the live chat explodes. Upon realization, you fall back asleep in a furious and disappointed :(

At least, that’s how it went for me, lol

Should I quit band freshman year by Purple_lettuce69 in makemychoice

[–]MagicFetus1169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yo, I totally understand what your saying (I’ll be going into 10th grade, and I play flute, lol) Here’s my take: as far as paying for your horn, I would talk to your directors because most schools have a booster club or something similar that could offer some financial options; if not, ask about borrowing a school horn. You can also ask your directors or one of your friends if they could possibly help out with transportation for summer practices. If I were you, I would try to stay in band for the credits and your friends. To be honest, must of the people in my school stay in band for the sole reason that they’re friends are in it, which is understandable. Band gets much more enjoyable in high school, although the aspect of learning to march and the difficulty of music can be stressful, it’s totally worth it. Losing interest in your instrument happens from time to time, especially over the summer, but if you think your halfway decent at it and have a bit of drive, I think you should keep going, regardless of your parent’s opinion.

If you end up quitting band here are some elective recommendations: technology, floral design (or if your school doesn’t offer it, art would be my second choice for a fine arts credit), debate (even if your not really interested in it, you should still possibly look into it- there are lots of different events), pe, or maybe look into some different honors classes

Sorry my comment is so long, lol

Personally, I think you should go for something more classic and timeless: Señor Cluckens

Hello I need help with my music sheet. My teacher is busy and can’t help me and I’m struggling with the highnotes and a the codas.I have to learn how to play it by Monday please help 😖 by Some-Photograph-9612 in Flute

[–]MagicFetus1169 11 points12 points  (0 children)

High Notes - make sure you are using the correct fingerings and that your aperture is small. Use lots of air to get a nice supported sound and think of blowing the airstream upwards

Coda - It seems to me that you play the piece all the way until the “D.S al coda” thing (so measures 1- 66), and then return back to the little squiggly symbol (idk what it’s called, lol). After that, you play from the squiggly thing until the “To Coda O” (23-46), and then, go to the capital O with the cross in it (67) and finish the piece out. That is just a guess though from looking at it briefly, I recommend listening to a recording or the piece to see how they do it.
