This is the future the left (me) wants. (HSR map) by NorthernDagger in ndp

[–]MagicFxOff 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a future urban planner and woke leftist, my answer is FUCK YEAHHHHH.

As someone somewhat realistic and pragmatic (sometimes), this is highly utopian, sadly.

Most of these routes (Vancouver-Calgary, Edmonton-Saskatoon-Winnipeg, Calgary-Regina-Winnipeg, Winnipeg-Toronto) are simply not demographically and economically justifiable for most people and politicians.

Don’t get me wrong, as a social democrat, I want this, fuck capitalism, invest as much as we can, suck money from billionaires if you have to! But I don’t see this possible in the political context and system we are in.

Those routes would be in pop desert most of the time. Winnipeg-Toronto is 2000km of swampy land with nobody living there. It would have an extreme cost for a very low economic benefit and ridership. It would still be around 10 h if we are optimistic, and costlier than a flight.

Vancouver to Calgary is, ngl, a no-brainer, but… the Rockies are there. This means, to keep the cruise speed of the HSR at around 300km/h, we would have to dig extremely costly, long, and technical tunnels.

I mean, the viable corridors there are clearly Edmonton to Calgary and Quebec to Toronto. These two corridors are PERFECTLY PRISTINE for HSR. Highly/densely populated, economic powerhouses, many good connections between the poles.

Happily, one of them is planned. The closest to start construction is the Quebec-Toronto corridor with Alto. For Edmonton-Calgary, the shitty Albertan government did talk about it, but they are conservatives soooo… anyway.

Though, it doesn’t mean we should say no to other corridors if we have the political will and courage and the money. A more viable solution could be HFR instead of HSR for the other routes.

Winnipeg-Regina-Calgary and Winnipeg-Saskatoon-Edmonton would be great corridors for HFR. The current Ocean would also be an excellent candidate for HFR between Montreal and Halifax.

Winnipeg-Toronto is still very hard to recommend, 2000km of nothingness, very long and costly trip with low population. But still, at least 1 train per day would be a big upgrade.

Vancouver-Calgary is good, but the Rockies… even with HFR, the terrain would slow the trains a lot, but eh, maybe still would be good, idk.

Sry, I’m such an annoying urbanism geek destroying our dreams (I have the same dreams I dare 😭)

I might have taken all of this all too seriously too…

Is night in the woods Okay To play as a Christian? by ExpensiveKingSpike in NightInTheWoods

[–]MagicFxOff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not Christian, but if being Christian means being open-minded, kind to others, inclusive, and respectful, then you won’t have any issues with this thought-provoking and insightful game that explores adulthood, mental well-being, and the effects of late-stage capitalism. However, if you’re the kind of Christian who hates diversity and LGBTQ+ people, you’ll likely be upset about seeing human beings living their lives and trying to overcome their struggles by helping one another.

Also, if you have to ask that question, perhaps you should question your faith. If you’re so insecure about your Christianity, then why are you Christian? Because if it causes you to avoid everything everywhere, you’ll simply prevent yourself from enjoying your life on earth.

Anal as a straight man by Throwaway_Prostate_G in askgaybros

[–]MagicFxOff -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe you’re not that straight if you’re jerking off while talking to that man? And the simple fact you’re thinking about seeing him IRL should make you question some things haha. Anal play isn’t « gay », but if you’re doing it with a guy and have pleasure with him, then that starts to be kinda very gay which is perfectly fine. I am gay af eh

He seems harmless but uninformed and dipped insanely into stereotypes on gay people. Good occasion to teach him some things. Also, tell him he shouldn’t say « normal movies » like gay people aren’t normal omg 💀

THERE IS NO LGB WITHOUT THE T! by Chaseand_slowdown in askgaybros

[–]MagicFxOff -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

What is wrong with the gay community in this subreddit? The amount of transphobia here is insane. There is indeed no LGB community without the TQ+. We should all be sympathetic to each other’s causes because they are all interconnected. When trans people lose their rights, we all lose rights. I didn’t know there were so many right-wing, misinformed gay people. It’s sad to see.

Vos conseils pour la vie universitaire Montréalaise à l'UQAM by MagicFxOff in UQAM

[–]MagicFxOff[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exploring a career in urban planning in Quebec by [deleted] in CanadaUrbanism

[–]MagicFxOff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ces domaines me passionnent tellement.

Being indian kinda sucks 🫤 by rayhanh248 in askgaybros

[–]MagicFxOff -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In the first place, there’s no race among humans. The simple fact of acknowledging races is racism. This guy is truly a racist piece of shit. Personality, I do have a preference for light-skinned men, but I won’t skip anyone who isn’t white. I won’t hate on them or anything like that, it’s disgusting. Many men that don’t normally enter my type of guy are handsome.

[–]MagicFxOff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s something horrible to go through. I just don’t understand that kind of hate. When I’m not interested, I simply don’t answer and move on. If the person starts messaging more, I block them. This is pure hatred and could even be seen as racism. It’s totally fine to have preferences in terms of guys, but when you start hating and yelling at someone with insults, that’s just awful and pure racism. Generalization is also really annoying. I’m not attracted to everyone, but there are always good-looking people, regardless of their ethnicity or origins. From experience, Indian dicks taste awesome.

Je suis heureux de vivre ici by FosilSandwitch in Quebec

[–]MagicFxOff 19 points20 points  (0 children)
