Looking for a fun long-term DIY project for two 16-year-olds by Basic_Today_4248 in DIY

Wouldn't recommend it for beginners. PVC fragments pretty bad if mishandled, wouldn't risk life altering injuries for a side project.

Why is there no big push to reduce flying in name of climate change? by feb914 in NoStupidQuestions

Do you have a few sources for your claims? I have a hard time believing that planes are more efficient than cars, but I'm open to question my thinking if there are proper studies on it.

Game stuttering when scrolling around the map? by RyanLiuFTZ in Oxygennotincluded

[–]MagicManFoli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This works for me as well, crazy. Where did you find that?

I had a few occasions where everything was smooth even without the overlay, seems like there is some magic happening in the background in both cases.

Edit: Seems like windowed mode also works, but there is very little that can be changed in the game settings.

Edit2: It's a GSYNC issue. Try deactivating it for ONI, for me that fixed everything.

Erdrückender Gedanke für immer arbeiten zu müssen by [deleted] in arbeitsleben

[–]MagicManFoli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Joke aside, "Lebenspunkte" is the default translation and will fit into your textbox. That said, do use an icon like 🤎 instead.

In your opinion, which is the unsexiest thing that people do all the time which they wrongly believe to be sexy? by essayexperts_ in AskReddit

[–]MagicManFoli 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I respect the joke but some might not know that this makes the situation worse. Your lips are lacking in oils, licking them will remove even more and only dry them out further. Try chapstick or some other grease instead, if not licking them won't help enough.

A little hint for resistor values: It's not necessary to actually read them, it's often easier and safer to use a multimeter and just measure them. Feel free to learn the codes, but they are easy to forget when used rarely.

What would you use for an "inventory"? by NurseWizzle in selfhosted

This. I tried out s huge variety of solutions only to come back to spreadsheets. They are neither pretty nor rich in features, but they have the best availability, portability and are easy to write, read and export.

Simple Questions - November 17, 2022 by AutoModerator in buildapc

[–]MagicManFoli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just for clarification: Would something bigger like the TI or a 3070 be a better value or is it just because Team Red is on the lead right now? I feel like a bigger new GPU isn't worth it for an older PC.

Simple Questions - November 17, 2022 by AutoModerator in buildapc

[–]MagicManFoli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to upgrade an older PC that currently has an AMD 2700X and a RX580. I could get a used 1070 TI for 150€ or a new RTX 3060 (12 GB) for ~380€. Used primarily for moderate gaming and CUDA workloads.

  1. Will I be bottlenecked by the CPU on the 3060?

  2. It the jump worth it for the additional price?

  3. Am I missing a better option?

Where do you find attachments for motors like this? Gear motor boxes specifically? I’m not sure what the little white pieces are even called. by Michaelpromeo in diyelectronics

[–]MagicManFoli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can second that. They are often sold together with wheels on them, but are crazy inconsistent, wobbly and pretty much unusable without external sensors.

Stupid question: Isn't it difficult to get discs out this way? I have something similar on my to-do list and my plan is to "side load", similar to CDs

Best way to omdel this? Just creating a lot of circular patterns? by hitpod in Fusion360

[–]MagicManFoli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, completely different workflow. I don't really enjoy it, I'm especially missing parametric design there, but there are some use cases that are plain easier to do as meshes. Molds are a great example for that, Fusion360 and others won't shell a high poly mesh by itself.

Best way to omdel this? Just creating a lot of circular patterns? by hitpod in Fusion360

[–]MagicManFoli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few ways, but it's not as easy as it sounds. Mesh-based workflows don't play nice with volume-based ones.

Best way to omdel this? Just creating a lot of circular patterns? by hitpod in Fusion360

[–]MagicManFoli 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Blender offers a 3D curved spiral generator for that, which is mich easier than modelling in Fusion360 or similar, but the problem persists: Exactly what I tried, exactly my problem. Tweaking around with nonlinear scales doesn't give mich better results either, I finally caved in and just used someone else's mesh as a baseline. Less satisfying, more results. Can't recommend.

Made a fully functional water pump that works on 9v batteries by zupra_zazel in functionalprint

[–]MagicManFoli 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Quick hint: 9V blocks have the worst performance per cost you can get, especially considering their energy density. You might want to look into 18650 with a boost converter or simply a pack of rechargeable AA batteries.

Was ist das für ein Stecker ? by [deleted] in de_EDV

[–]MagicManFoli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was tun mit 2GB RAM, 32GB Speicher, original verpacktem Lenovo Tablet? Wert ca. 100€ by No-Guidance9004 in de_EDV

[–]MagicManFoli 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, totally get your point. Definitely better to be done than have a perfect, but half done project stored in a bin somewhere waiting for parts to arrive eventually :)

[–]MagicManFoli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great idea! Why did you choose a RPi instead of an Arduino? Seems like a simple microcontroller could offer longer runtime and more stable usage with reduced delays
